Wendy, Leo Featherstone, http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/... , is setting up a group with that goal - set for September 14. Send him a message if you are interested.

Wendy (citywoman) | 86 comments Thanks Jason. Yes I am aware of that group. Just wanted to give people the headsup that sending pdfs to each other is not terribly productive. If you can go to Leo's group and be a part of that, your result will be much better.

Abby Vandiver | 71 comments Love the idea of "purchase swaps." They help with ranking and visibility. And promoting your book when it's $.99 will make it available to more people who will share with others. I'm offering my book, In the Beginning, at $.99 for the month of September. Anyone interested, I'll do a purchase swap with you, or if you want to join a group, (there's a couple), I say "do it." Your ranking at Amazon will go up.

Here's my book, just in case you're interested!:

In the Beginning

My debut novel, In the Beginning, is a mystery/quasi sci-fi that mixes fact with fiction. Not fast paced or action packed, it is a page turner so thought provoking you'll find yourself checking to see if it could really be true. No book written (so far) has this same premise.

Gene Covington | 19 comments Have liked all "likable" books of authors in this forum on Amazon. I note that not all Amazon author pages give a like link. Wondering why that is? I enjoy swapping reads and reviews. Unfortunately my publisher doesn't allow .99 kindle books, but I am willing to "gift" my e-book to anyone who would like to swap reviews. Please let me know. Thanks, Gene

Natalie Roers | 17 comments Hi!

I see you all get the value of swaps! My name is Natalie Roers (feel free to check out my profile) and I'm the co-creator of a new service called Authortrade.com. If you've ever done book swaps with other authors on ŷ or Amazon, we do the same thing, but we make it much easier for you with an automated system. We're about to start our swaps next week and we're looking to get people to sign up so we can start. You get to swap with as many people as you want at only .99 for each book. It's totally free to join for a week. Try us out and see if you like it. You'll be asked if you want to continue after trying us out for a week and if you do, you will only be charged $9.99 to use the site. If you don't like us, you can walk away no questions asked and at no charge. This is a great supplement to your current promotions or great to use if you've exhausted every other avenue, but are still looking for exposure. Please email me at [email protected] if you have any questions. I'd be happy to answer them. Please pre-register and help us get started! You get all the ranking and exposure of swaps without the work- a major life-saver for busy authors.

Best,
Natalie

Greg Strandberg (gregstrandberg) Hello Struggling Authors,

I'm trying to put a list together of authors supporting authors.

If you're interested in lowering your book's price to $0.99 on Saturday, October 5, let me know.

We're trying to get 20+ people who'll buy your book and you theirs. This will boost you up in your Top 100 and get you a lot of visibility for the whole weekend and a bit longer.

Here's a link showing how you can promote it, and get even more visibility:

Send me a message if you're interested and I'll add your name to the list.

message 497: by Samuel (new)

Samuel Murphy | 42 comments It’s 2:30am and here I sit at the keyboard. Guess I took the news a bit harder than I thought. After all, as a writer, I, like most of you, have dealt with rejection time after time after time. You would hope that somehow you would get immune to it all, but you never really do. Rejection is part of the game. It is the from this bottle we all are forced to drink.

But we continue our path, knowing that in the end our obstinance and faith in ourselves will somehow prevail, and we will somehow win over our critics and meet with the success we imagine for ourselves. It is our lottery, our winning poker hand, our salvation and redemption.

And so, being mostly alone and unknown and operating in the shadows, we push and we pull and we know that if we push and pull enough, we’ll be OK. We just need to find like-minded people who share the same belief and the same ultimate goal. A place where there’s enough room for all at the table.

Hundreds, thousands of us, having gone down one alley after another, have come to rest in what we could believe to be a safe harbor; a forum that focuses on “Authors Supporting Authors. At least that’s what the headline says.

Being amongst your own, surely the word “no wouldn’t exist here. Surely, everyone else whose ship is docked in these waters will be of some help in the navigation of it all.

And so after the proper introductions, you join in on the conversations and try to be as much help as you can be to others, asking only that in return, you get a short respite from hearing the words, ”No, we’re sorry, but at this time…

But here I sit at the keyboard and the clock now says 3:04am, not able to sleep as one more rejection notice has come in.

“I think it'd be best if you sit this one out; already there are a lot of the same books and you won't get any reviews.

This message I recently received pertains to the anticipated October 5th swap. Having participated in the first two, I welcomed joining in on the exchange one more time.

But I only have one book. And that makes me poor. As we all scramble to catch the crumbs that fall, there seems to be no room at this table either.

The one story that I created and published may not be the most beautiful offspring, but it’s mine, and through all of the “no’s from some, and the sheer indifference of others, it managed to get out. Because it was there, inside, and it needed to have a life of its own. Isn’t that why any of us write?

But it is only one of one. It is all I have to show.

Think back to the many roads you have taken just to get here, the wasted time, the walls and the mazes. And you feel like that child in the back of the classroom constantly raising your hand because you know the answer, but are never called upon.

You’re not supposed to be there any more. You’re supposed to be with others who take a real interest in you. Others who can show the same scars in the same places as you. People who truly feel your pain only because they have felt the same sting.

I was hoping for that very thing when I first landed here, but as I see what lies beneath, this place resembles the last place, which resembled the last place.

I am not naïve. All places have their own version of a pecking order. Here, this “Authors Supporting Authors place has its own as well, and you can be hit by some sort of prosaic drive by, or simply told “No at this place just as easily as any other place.

Here, those who have more published works seem to hold more sway because they have more options. I don’t need to be here for that. I get enough of that in the real world. I don’t need that from here.

"...and you won't get any reviews?

I have not and do not look for reviews regarding the work I have published. I’m on my own for that. In the final analysis, if my work does not stand up on its own, then I will accept it.

But if I don’t get invited to play with the others, or called on, how will I ever move up in the classroom-seating chart and be seen? I am, like you, looking for sales, pure and simple. Reviews do not immediately move me up in the rankings so that my work can be seen by the reading public. But sales do. And the mass swaps help all of us do that. After that, as I said, I’m on my own. I just want the chance to be on my own.

The clock now says 4:40am and it’s time to go. At least I was able to play a couple of innings, and I want to sincerely thank those of you who have attempted to give aid and comfort to me on my journey. And I do thank those of you who have read my work and have graced it with some very kind words. Bless you for that.
