DHASG Spring is in Bloom! Quarterly Challenge

Duration: April 1st-June 30th, 2013

Introduction: Flowers are such a beautiful sign of spring. This contest will celebrate the world of flowers that bloom and share their beautiful colors and delicious fragrance with us, not to mention providing food for bees, butterflies and hummingbirds.

Version 1.0:

Read books that symbolize any of the below flowering plants. You don’t have to use the below meanings if you can symbolize the flower with the book in a different way, but your meanings should not overlap between books, if possible.

Freesia: innocence
Lily: majesty
Camellia: admiration
Gardenia: secret love
Peony: bashful
Hyacinth: constancy
Snapdragon: desire
Carnation: pride and beauty
Gladiolus: strength of character
Hydrangea: heartfelt
Tulip: declaration of love
Violet: faithfulness
Magnolia: perseverance

Version 1.2:

Spell out flower names with books. For this level you must spell a minimum of eight flower letters (approximately two shorter flowers or one longer one), but there is no upper limit to how many you want to spell. You may use the first letter of the book title or the author’s first or last name.

Levels for Version 1.0:

Level One-Green Thumb: Read 8-12 books symbolizing any of the above flowers. Bonus: Pick up to three other flowers and read books that symbolize them. If you pick additional flowers, please note how that book symbolizes the flower.
Level Two-Busy Bee: Read 5-7 books symbolizing any of the above flowers.
Level Three-Casual Gardener: Read 3-4 books symbolizing any of the above flowers.

Levels for Version 1.2:

Level One-Green Thumb: Spell out fifteen letters from least two flower names.
Level Two-Busy Bee: Spell out ten letters from one or more flower names.
Level Three-Casual Gardener: Spell out eight letters from one or more flower names.


Instructions:

1. Any member of the DHASG may participate in the challenge. You may sign up for the challenge at any time once it is posted, and until 11:59pm on June 30th.
2. Update your progress regularly during the challenge. Your final post should show completed
stats and that you are finished.
3. This challenge may overlap with any other challenge on the DHASG.
4. A book can only be used once in the challenge.
5. A participant can choose one or both levels, but the books should not overlap between the two levels if a member chooses to do both.
