Trysh (tryshx) | 5 comments The iron fey series by Julie kagawa is really good. Also, the sword of truth by Terry Goodkind is amazing.

message 3: by [deleted user] (new)

How is about somewhat obscure series The Saga of Recluse with the first book The Magic of Recluce. I have it on my to-read shelf, it would be nice to discuss it here.

Jon (jonmoss) Evgeny wrote: "How is about somewhat obscure series The Saga of Recluse with the first book The Magic of Recluce. I have it on my to-read shelf, it would be nice to discuss it here."

I second the Saga of Recluce.

message 5: by Willow (new)

Willow Do trilogies count, or are we just looking at longer series?

message 6: by Willow (last edited Sep 03, 2013 02:53PM) (new)

Willow I'm interested in the Demon Cycle (3 books out), The Dragonlance Chronicles (6 books), the Codex Alera (6 books), or the Inheritance Trilogy (3 books). Tried to pick things that aren't on the group's bookshelf or were listed a couple years ago.

Retracting multiple nominations. I'd like to read The Inheritance Trilogy (starting with The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms ) because it was recently recommended by Brandon Sanderson.

I will also second The Dark Tower (The Gunslinger)

Couldn't second the Dark Tower because it was nominated in a thread with three other titles, and Pern was already seconded. So I'm going to wave my hands, incant the magic words, and roll back my previous choices. My updated nomination and second have already been given below.

message 7: by Kerry (new)

Kerry (rocalisa) | 50 comments I've just reread the first two books in Katharine Kerr's Deverry series and I'm hoping to go on past those I read back in the late '80s (the first four) to read the entire series, which is 15 books (so quite a commitment I realise). I've really enjoyed those first two - she's got a deep and complex world yet is very readable. So I'll toss this series into the mix.

message 8: by Charlotte (new)

Charlotte (lostoceans) | 13 comments The Broken Empire is a really awesome 3 book series by Mark Lawrence. the first book is Prince of Thorns

message 9: by Raivo (new)

Raivo Verk | 17 comments I'd like to second The Broken Empire

message 10: by Andreas (new)

Andreas I second the Pern cycle.

And I nominate The Deryni Novels series from Katherine Kurtz. It is a historical fantasy series in a roughly high mediaeval country called Gwynedd which resembles Scottland or Wales with a religion like Roman Catholic Church.

Katherine Kurtz wrote the series during nearly 40 years - the first book Deryni Rising was published in 1970 and the newest one Childe Morgan in 2006. Where else could you watch the changing styles and manners of a single author during such a long period of time?

message 11: by Kelly (last edited Aug 31, 2013 07:56AM) (new)

Kelly Flanagan | 5 comments I adored and would re-read Jay Lake's series Clockwork Earth which starts with Mainspring. or Green (Green Universe #1)-also by Jay Lake- which I can't get to come up in the HTML but both are excellent and deserve bigger audiences.

Me too, with the sister group, although I read part 3 too.

message 15: by Jeff (last edited Sep 01, 2013 11:05AM) (new)

Jeff Gruters | 14 comments Id like to second The Broken Empire Trilogy. If that's being repetitive then ill second the Demon Cycle.

Ill nominate The Lightbringer Trilogy The Black Prism.

You missed a few:
Pern (Dragonflight)
Inheritance Trilogy (The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms)

message 23: by Helen (new)

Helen | 1 comments Was pern nominated? There were three in the post and we can only nominate one. My nomination of Inheritance hasn't been seconded.

message 24: by Willow (new)

Willow Helen wrote: "Was pern nominated? There were three in the post and we can only nominate one. My nomination of Inheritance hasn't been seconded."

I'm not sure if the original post changed after I posted my nominations or if I just had a reading comprehension fail xD

I nominated The Inheritance Trilogy, since it was recently recommended by Sanderson, and several others because I wasn't sure if we were looking for trilogies or longer series.

Rakib seems to be in the same boat. He nominated Pern, Dark Tower and a few others. Pern was seconded by Andreas, and I seconded Dark Tower, so I'm not sure where that stands.

I will update my post to get rid of the other nominations, though, leaving the Inheritance Trilogy as my sole nomination.

message 25: by Helen (new)

Helen | 1 comments Aah, we tend to nominate just one and second one. You could nominate another of your choices as I put Inheritance on as I have the first two looking at me.

message 26: by Willow (new)

Willow Helen wrote: "Aah, we tend to nominate just one and second one. You could nominate another of your choices as I put Inheritance on as I have the first two looking at me."

Alright, I'll unwind the snarl from the multiple nominations and switch some things around. I nominate the Codex Alera (Furies of Calderon) and second The Inheritance Trilogy. :P That way only one of Rakib's nominations is being seconded (Pern), and we are all technically observing the rules.

Sorry for messing things up, but I swear I didn't see the part about one nomination/second per person until today.

message 27: by Maggie, The Malazan Queen of Chaos (new)

Maggie K | 1208 comments Mod
That is correct-I deleted the post that had three nominations to make things clearer.

Pern has to be officially nominated and seconded, as does The Gunslinger. There are several nominations that have not been seconded-Furies of Calderon, A Shadow in Summer, and Mainspring

message 28: by Helen (new)

Helen | 1 comments My voting is getting harder and harder, I definitely want two of these!

message 29: by Trent Fuller (new)

Trent Fuller | 1 comments I second the Codex Alera, considering I picked up the first one last month and this will give me a great reason to start it now :D

message 30: by Alison (new)

Alison | 1 comments I second Furies of Calderon, but I also nominate Shadows in the Sand.

message 31: by Kathi, There’s no such thing as too many books! (new)

I nominate the Crossroads Series by Kate Elliott (Spirit Gate, Shadow Gate, Traitors' Gate).

message 32: by Mpauli (new)

Mpauli I second Clockwork Earth by Jay Lake, starting with Mainspring.

I'll also throw in Adrian Tchaikovsky's Shadows of the Apt series, starting with Empire in Black and Gold.
It's a ten book series and nin are already out. The tenth should come out sometime next year, so it could be a large series, but with an ending in sight.

message 33: by Valleygirl (new)

Valleygirl | 1 comments The Temeraire series by Naomi Novik. I enjoyed the first one, but haven't read more yet. His Majesty's Dragon

Hear! Hear! Amazing works by a talented writer who's about to be taken from us by cancer at 48.

message 44: by Marcin (last edited Sep 10, 2013 01:21AM) (new)

Marcin (mkarwin) | 6 comments I'd second Goodkind's "The Sword of Truth" series, though I'd much more prefer to delve into the riftwar universe once more and take on "The Serpentwar Saga":
Shadow of a Dark Queen
Rise of a Merchant Prince
Rage of a Demon King
Shards of a Broken Crown

This series just keeps eluding my grasps ;D

message 45: by Brandon (new)

Brandon Jones I second broken empire series by Mark Lawrence

The Red Wolf Conspiracy (The Chathrand Voyage, #1) by Robert V.S. Redick

message 47: by Todd (new)

Todd | 5 comments Naydene wrote: "I'd like to second Daniel Abraham's Long Price Quartet."

Yes! I just love his "The Dagger and the Coin" series, his writing is really enjoyable (engaging but not quite as gritty as GRRM), would really love to read this series, great nomination and second.

message 48: by Colin (new)

Colin | 5 comments I second serpentwar by Raymond e feist

message 49: by Eric (new)

Eric Zawadzki | 46 comments Colin wrote: "the republic of thieves by Scott lynch...third book in gentleman bastards series, think its out in October"

I'm not sure whether this was intended to be a nomination. If so, I'll second it and also nominate The Gunslinger series. If not, I'll nominate the Gentlemen Bastards and second, um, something, maybe.

Third Gentlemen Bastards book indeed comes out in October.

message 50: by Beth (new)

Beth Johnson (planetarypan) | 7 comments I nominate The Gunslinger by Stephen King. I'm a few books into the series, and I love it now. The first one is ... rough to get through. The series improves rapidly, and I plowed through the third book. Now I'm up to Book 4, so I could use motivation reading these (so many series, so little time...)

And I second His Majesty's Dragon which has been on my Nook's To Read list for an age.
