This is where we talk about books(:

message 2: by notyourfriend (new)

notyourfriend (amemori) | 103 comments Nightmare City by Andrew Klavan is an extremely great book. I recommend it to everyone. It was a different type of book than I'm used to and it was a bit mysterious at first, but everything gets summed up perfectly at the end. I also really loved the main lesson behind it.

notyourfriend (amemori) | 103 comments No problem ;) Have you ever read anything from Andrew Klavan?

message 7: by M.K., Creator And Moderator 🎉 (new)

M.K. Aneal (mkaneal) | 6178 comments Mod
No I haven't. Is he good?

message 8: by Tamara (new)

Tamara Georges (tamarasinnamon) I read The Homelanders series by Andrew Klavan and have been wondering about his other books because that was good. I had a question though. Based on the descriptions for some of his books they look horror stories, is that true, or are tgey just spiritual warfare. I think he's Jewish or something.

message 9: by notyourfriend (new)

notyourfriend (amemori) | 103 comments I've read The Homelanders series, Nightmare City, Crazy Dangerous, and If We Survive. I also have Mindwar, but haven't gotten to read it yet. I loved all the ones I read, except for If We Survive. That one had a good story, but was really slow for me and the charaters were annoying. I loved Crazy Dangerous soo much. It's a great story. The main lesson sort of thing throughout it was 'Recte age nil time', which means 'Do right. Fear nothing.'
The books aren't horror at all.

The Homelanders is fighting Islamic extremists that were going to attack.
Crazy Dangerous is a schizophrenic girl that sees things weirdly and it's hard to explain >.<
If We Survive is missionaries stuck in Central America and they're trying to get home and protect the civilians there.
Nightmare City is super strange at first because it's like the main character woke up in a ghost town, but it makes sense as the story goes. I don't want to give anything away.

message 10: by Tamara (new)

Tamara Georges (tamarasinnamon) Ahh, okay. Cause I don't like horror, but I don't mind spiritual warfare. I read House by Frank Peretti and Ted Dekker and it was pretty creepy. I'll definitely look into more of Andrew Klavans books because I loved The Homelanders! And sorry, but I have another question. Do any of his other books have innapropriate content? I wondered that too from the descriptions on the books.

message 11: by Anna (new)

Anna Dressen I've read the Homelanders and If We Survive, I loved both.

What's your definition of inappropriate?

message 13: by avery joy (new)

avery joy I read Swipe! It was amazing! I have read 2 out of the 4 books in the series! They are Christian and I highly recommend them!

M.K. Aneal (mkaneal) | 6178 comments Mod
OOooohhhh(; they sound wonderful!! I've been wanting to read them(:

message 15: by Tamara (new)

Tamara Georges (tamarasinnamon) Caitlyn. Anything with sexual content that's not appropriate for teens or young adults is innapropriate, also any suggestive explicit themes. I don't mind if it has an edgy subject, as long as it's handled with a godly perspective and doesn't go into detail.

message 16: by Tamara (new)

Tamara Georges (tamarasinnamon) Those books do sound really good btw, I just want to be careful. :)

Haha(; I need to!!
And wow Matt that sounds interesting!!
How are you liking it?

message 22: by Matt (new)

Matt Hart | 148 comments It's a hard read, like using the Voice of the Martyrs devotion. Shows how the believers in some places really need prayer.

message 23: by M.K., Creator And Moderator 🎉 (new)

M.K. Aneal (mkaneal) | 6178 comments Mod
Wow!! I hear ya about the hard read though. Many devotions I have seen are very hard. But of course it sounds like a good one(;
Keep us updated on how its going.

message 24: by Haley (new)

You should be okay with my The Fractured Earth and others in the series then. I like the genre but not the language and such that usually goes with it. Hopefully others will feel that way and like the series.

message 28: by Tamara (new)

Tamara Georges (tamarasinnamon) Okay, I'll look into them then! :)

message 29: by Duchessbookworm (new)

Michelle (michellesayaha) | 8 comments Really enjoying The Divine Nature of Music !! Fantastic read on how the theory and science of music can prove the existence of God! Some fantastic "divine parallels" between music and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Strongly recommend. New video discussion on book too:

Have any of y'all read anything by Wanda L. Dyson? I wondered because a friend loaned me a couple of her books, but I've never heard of her so I don't know if they're really any good or not...

Hahaha wow really!! Sounds interesting!!(; Keep me updated on how it is!!(: What's it about?

message 41: by Aerykah, Co-Moderator (new)

Aerykah | 3571 comments Mod
It's about a serial killer who is kidnapping & killing little girls. The head detective on the case is forced by his superior to bring in a psychic to help them find the girls (dead or alive).
It's... captivating to be sure.

Oh wow! I don't know if that's my kind of book *scared face* Lol But it does sound interesting(:

message 43: by Aerykah, Co-Moderator (new)

Aerykah | 3571 comments Mod
Yeah... I'm not sure it's my kind of book either..... The tag on the front cover sounded interesting, though. It says: "Where is God when nightmares come true?" We'll see how it goes, I guess.

I will read your review soon(:
Thank you (:

message 47: by Aerykah, Co-Moderator (new)

Aerykah | 3571 comments Mod
Hm... Took me 3 days, not all that fast for me. I really think I could have finished it in one day if I'd had the time to just sit & read. ;)
I thought about moving on to the second book, but I think I need a break before I do that-- maybe read something happy & light-hearted. ;P

message 48: by [deleted user] (new)

My school participates in a program called AR. Basically, you take quizzes on books and get points for a grade.
My latest read was worth 9 (Changeling)
