DHASG December Challenge

Introduction: December is the last month of 2013. Thank you so much for celebrating this year of 2013 with us by participating in the challenges on the Dangerous Hero Addict Support Group. Without your participation, our pilot year of monthly challenges would be a bust. Help us celebrate December and ease in the exciting new year of 2014 on the DHASG!

Whatever holidays you celebrate this month, we can always celebrate the end of a year and lots of good reading and companionship on the Dangerous Hero Addict Support Group.

Instructions:

1. Each participant can can sign up at any time from the opening of thread and post their final stats when finished.
2. Books must be read between December 1st and December 31st, 2013.
3. One book counts for one part of the challenge.
4. Books can be of any genre unless specifically stated.


Levels

1. Book Blizzard: Read 9-12 books.
2. Let it Snow Books: Read 6-8 books.
3. Cuddle up With a Book: Read 3-5 books.

1. Holiday Music Is Upon Us!: Read a book that brings to mind a well-loved Christmas carol or holiday themed song. Your choice. (excludes songs used in the challenge: #6, 7 and 10.)

2. To Do List: Strike a book that you have needed to read off your busy Reading To-Do list.

3. Last but not least: Since December is the last month of the year, read the last book in a series you've been following, or read the last book you bought this year so far. Is "last, end, final" in the title? That counts. Any other way of representing the concept of "Last" is eligible.

4. In Memoriam: In honor of the Pearl Harbor bombing on December 7th, read a book about WWII, set during this time, or in some way related to WWII (maybe a character has a relative who fought in the war). You could also read a book set in Hawaii or with a character who is in the Navy.

5. Celebrate the Holiday of Your Choice: December is blessed with celebration holidays related to various religious traditions. Choose one that has some meaning to you and read a book that reminds you of that day. You may choose any of these and another one that you think of that I have not listed: Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, Winter Solstice, HumanLights.

6. What are you doing on New Year's Eve?: Read a book that represents your ideal way to spend the last day of the year. Please indicate what that is in parenthesis when you post your stats.

7. Deck the Halls with Boughs of Holly: The Holly plant is a birth plant for December. It has symbolism both to Christian and pre-Christian cultures such as the Druids. In heraldry, it symbolizes truth. Read a book that represents holly
in any of the following ways: cover is red and green, character is named Holly, a Christmas-themed book, a Druid character, a knight (wears a shield/decorations with Heraldry), read a Harry Potter book since some of the wands are made from the wood, or even read a book with a main character who has red hair and green eyes.

8. Winter Break: If you're in school, you get anywhere from a few days to two weeks off for winter break. Most of us get Christmas day or New Years Eve off for work. You get one free book of your choice for this challenge.

9. Wish List: If you make a wish list for your holiday celebration, or even ask "Santa" for a gift this time of year, read a book that represents what you might ask for as your gift.

10. Baby it's Cold Outside!: Unless you live in the Southern Hemisphere, it's getting chilly and we want to cuddle up with a good book and a hot drink. Read a book that represents cold weather in some way. You can choose.

11. I Use: Capricorn is one of the December birth signs. "I Use" is the trait most commonly associated with Capricorns. Capricorns are known for the following traits: ambitious, moody, cautious, disciplined, detached, patient, practical, responsible, reserved, and stubborn. Pick a book with character(s) who represent any of these traits.

12. Say Goodbye!: Since the year is ending, it's easy to look back on what we did or didn't accomplish this year. Read a book that represents that feeling of wrapping up another year. It's up to you!
