Do you often give up on books?

Very rarely. But I completely agree that books find us at the right time in our lives and when it's not the right time, putting the book down is better than forcing it. I don't call it giving up on the book, I say rather that I'm putting it away for now.

Is there an official list of the 1001? I googled it and there are a few to choose from...

I've been reading through Harold Bloom's Western Canon list.

Never heard of that list. This challenge and list thing really got me into heavy reading again. Not that I don't always read, but this just makes it so fun and I explore new things. Good too, for with bad shoulder, hands and back it's pretty much what I'm supposed to do right now exept training :)

My Gilmore addiction has tapered off some over the past year. Of course that didn't keep me from watching the seasons a shameful amount of times lol. I have the Rory booklist saved and sometimes I'll pick up a book from it. It's a good starting out list on here when you're just getting started. I think they did a good job of getting a bit of everything in there.

I was just wondering about this. I was reading a couple short stories that went along with a series I've just started and wasn't sure if they should be included in my list.
I'd say A Christmas Carol would count as a book, not because of it's length but because of it being a classic. Which is weird logic lol, but it works in my brain at least.
I did decide that I'd leave the short stories on my Reading Challenge list but just tack on a couple more books to my goal in the long run.

For iphone/ipod users, I discovered they have an app that you can use to track it and you can pick if you want to pick one edition or the complete list :) It's great!

As opposed to Stephen Kings UR that I don't count.

Is it a GoodReads app or under a different name? I'd like to look it up. I'm working through 1001 too.

Have you read many? I started now. I did read from it years ago, but I want to read even the ones I have read again, so I will only count them then.

Have you read many? I..."
Okay, great. :) I haven't gotten to very many of them yet. I've read 108 from the spreadsheet. Some years ago that I'd like to read again, most in high school. I didn't know about the list back then so now I'm going back through and marking whatever seems interesting.

Harold Bloom seems like such a reliable source for great literature now, as is Penguin publishing. But I have found over the years that joining groups like this one often leads me in the right direction. My TBR list is insanely long, and at the rate I read will take me at least 10 years.
On a different note, there is a new Sherlock Holmes movie coming!

Wow! I was going to download the app but it is almost $6.00. Too rich for me. That is too bad. I would have liked to keep track.

Haha, I'm sure it'll take lots and lots of time. But that's part of the fun. :)

Kristan Higgins posted on facebook: "It's World Book Day! Or as we all call it, 'day'. Read on, peeps!" So appropriate for our group:)

That's right Ariel:)

Anyone read them and know where to start and which version on kindle? One of them has a version with one to $20!! and one is 3 dollar. I want to read unabridged..

It's a little bit of a stretch, but I think it works.
