No, either the whole book needs to be about the foretelling, prophecy or fortune teller (I'll accept a prophet, a sooth-sayer, a tarot reader, a chiromant, a reader of entrails or cast bones, a crystal gazer OR the Witch of Endor) or the stated words have to be in the title

I can't believe I didn't catch that before posting. Yes, "...In the Title, or That Features..." please.

Dune is based on a prophecy, so yes, that will work.

maybe Wal..."
Thanks William!

Cait - Would 'road' be considered a place or a thing? It's not part of a proper street name.

Those are both ok.

I'm going to go ahead and say that moon, sun, and star are all ok for the third part of the task.

Yes,that should be 3 words.

I'm going to go ahead and say tha..."
Awesome, thanks Cait! Great task, btw!

But while they would not work for a book with a place in the title, wouldn't "School, Country, City" work for the third book, with a thing/object in the title? As you listed ..."
Hi Cait,
I was going to use Bridge over the River Kwai for part three of your task (the object), until I read your response to William's "house" inquiry. Do you think "bridge" is the type of object that could also be considered a place?
If it doesn't work, I'll just use it for part 2, as River Kwai would be a proper place noun.
Thanks.

Great. Thanks, Cait.

That's what I was hoping to do with my task, especially since it's 3 books. Make it broad enough to give one plenty of options already on their TBR list, but specific enough to narrow it down and have the fun of still having to search a bit. :o)

I haven't seen the letter "K" discussed here (but perhaps I missed it). I abhor military history, and so I was wondering--would books about a region be acceptable? Say a book about the Middle East that has something to do with Kuwait, or perhaps a book about the transitioning states of the former USSR (Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan)?

Kirsten - what about Korea? I'm sure there's something out there about Korea you might be able to use :)

Kenya probably has a wide range of books set in it also.

Check out message 13 in the Geography Lessons thread under help. Big list of K-country books.

If you like historical fiction, The Red Queen by Margaret Drabble mostly takes place in 18th century Korea. The modern part of the story wasn't so interesting, but the bulk of the book is the older story, and it was pretty good.

great task! Mine might be more narrow. Unless I change my mind between now and the finish line.

And that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

On the word challenge, if GR adds extras to it does that count? Cause the book itself is only 2 words but GR adds the series name to the main book title.

Good old Wikipedia says that Heaven and Hell are proper nouns, so they would qualify for the second part of the task (place).

Don't feel bad. There are a bazillion posts in this group now and it's hard to sort through them all.

lol

Totally random story, but I lived in South Korea during my senior year of high school, and one time, I was playing Scattergories with some Korean people... The letter was S, and one of the categories was "countries", and I couldn't think of anything else, so I put "South Korea" as my answer. My answer didn't end up counting, because the other players voted against me! They don't call their country South Korea. They mostly just call it Korea (Han-guk).

Me, too. Especially since I just found one on my list that didn't fit the rules...oops. Maybe we could check each other's.

Go, Go Nicole - soo close - great job !!!

Thank you.

Both. If you go over to the BJ Rose's task thread (http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...), messages #7, #9, and #21 are especially helpful.

Kristen -- I have a 'K' name too, and decided to go with West with the Night. It's set in Kenya, and isn't about war. Wa-hoo!!

I second that!

You mean the links to such places like bibilotravel.com and other lists? That's a good idea.
My suggestion would be people would PM Cynthia a list of links with a short description. She could copy-paste it into a single post. That way the list doesn't run into 100 messages and we're back at square one by filtering through.
Example of a PM:
CIA World Factbook Website -- (use drop-down to search for countries)
That is IF Cynthia approves.

Alice, they would need to be in the same tense in order for it to be a homophone. If you add the letter S to the end of one and not the other, they no longer sound the same and are therefore not homophones.

I have a long name, 18 letters in my first and last, not including the 9 in my middle. For the addition task, could I use an author that uses three names to make 18, or would I have to find one that has 18 in only his/her first and last name?
And sorry about the Kindred question, I read it my first year in college and forgot that it was before the war, thanks for reminding me! Maybe I'll use it for the reread one.

It says YOUR first and last name only... It's vague about the author's name. I would think their full name would be okay, though, as long as it's the name they write under.
