Now this thread will be automatically bumping every minute or so. It does involves magic of course. I only hope I won't be banned on Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ for this.

I would like to suggest the book "You're never weird on the internet. Almost." by Felicia Day. It's an inspiring book that I loved reading I will almost definitely read again.

Kaitlin! You got the right idea, but the thread for posting book suggestions is not here, it is: /topic/show/...

Sascha | 391 comments Hey Ho Ash!

I don't know if this helps and I don't even know if this is an urgent task for you - but I found the following guidelines on how to organize the forum with folders and adding threads to folders. I'm not sure but wouldn't this help to organize and give the forum more overview?

How do I add a discussion thread to a folder in a group?

1) Navigate to your group's page.

2) Click on "Discussion Board".

3) Click on "edit folders" on the top right (see image -- click to enlarge).

4) Click on "add a folder" on the top right to start adding folders. As soon as you have your folders, you can start adding discussion threads to them.

5) Click on the discussion thread you'd like to add.

6) At the top of the page, click "edit" next to the thread's title.

7) Next to "folder", select a folder and save.

Ash | 155 comments Sascha, this is a great guideline, thank you! Unfortunately, only a moderator can do this. Anyone else like you and me just have no access to this functionality. So we have to wait when our administration will pay some attention :-) I wrote a few messages to Luke but he seems to be inactive. I think he and Emma just overwhelmed by all messages people sent them, so our prayers are very unlikely to be heard

Ash | 155 comments Jonathan wrote: "wait, you're a he, right, Ash?"
Yep :-) This is not my real name because the real one is too much work to write.

oceanid wrote: "@ Ash - are you a moderator? If you are, I'd like to suggest maybe the addition of some more subforums since there are so many people here, to simplify things."
I'm a regular member without any special privileges. We just tried to elaborate some basic rules for all to prevent this board from being as chaotic as it could be. We even figured out a possible structure for this board, with folders and naming conventions, and sent our suggestions to real moderators, but they are basically out of reach. Still waiting for their reaction

Some topics are just plain useless- maybe one of the Moderators should delete some topics, or create folders. (Welcome, Current BOTM Discussion, Books We've Discussed, etc.)

Sascha | 391 comments Oh no! It seems to be necessary to BUMP it up again!

message 117: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne Anyone know when we'll learn what next month's book is? I'd love to know toward the end of January because it can take a few days to get hold of books and that eats into February's reading time.

Ash | 155 comments Sascha wrote: "Oh no! It seems to be necessary to BUMP it up again!"
My apologies, I had to switch off my laptop for a few hours

message 119: by Sascha (new)

Sascha | 391 comments Ash, no apologies, I didn't even think that it all depends on your laptop to be online... I guess it would really help if there was more moderation, right?

message 120: by Ash (new)

Ash | 155 comments Sascha wrote: "Ash, no apologies, I didn't even think that it all depends on your laptop to be online... I guess it would really help if there was more moderation, right?"
Definitely. Actually, without real moderation there is a possibility for this group not be able to stand for long. I don't want to explain the mechanics in public, but there are a multiple threats that only a real moderator can prevent. The question is - who will appear first, moderator or villain.

message 121: by Sascha (new)

Sascha | 391 comments Ash, then for me the question is: Is there something we can do to reach the goal of moderation? By "we" I mean we the people who are using this platform and wish this platform to live a long and prosper life.

I see two options:
1. Reach for our real moderators, make the situation clear for them, and wait for their whatever actions. We've tried many times, no luck. Emma's twitter may be a good place to reach for her though.
2. Create an another place to be able to move people on it in case of emergency. A new platform could be safer and easier to administrate. But it is a very difficult task in itself and it may take a lot of time.

message 123: by Sascha (new)

Sascha | 391 comments Well, as I don't use Twitter that's not an option for me. But I have written a short message to Luke (again). And I hope he will consider our concern for moderation. *Keeping fingers crossed*

I suppose they've received a thousands of messages since this board was announced. So there is a scarce chance (while it exists) that they actually open their mailbox at all.

message 127: by Kytriya (new)

Kytriya Luebeck | 49 comments The whole "too many topics" issue is why I prefer SMF (forum) boards. Its easier to organize topics. However, here is easier to help people find you and also maybe helps keep spam down. lol

I had started my own forum with a friend of mine so that we could be excruciatingly detailed with organizing our various projects. What was so brilliant about it is that it on my own website where "necroposting" and "Foreign languages" can be allowed, and we can do it our way and theme it our way to the Nth degree - right down to every single emoticon allowed. The alternative would have been to get a "special forum" on a rpg ace game maker forum (not enough control), or use one of the gazillion racist forums out there that allows you to have a free forum as long as its in English. FYI: None of our games are finished or suitable for public consumption as we are rubbish yet. And the stories we write are just first drafts and often NanoWrimo (National Novel Writing Month) productions.

@Kytriya -- It is not so much that goodreads is hard to keep organized, because, to me, it is the easiest site to organize that I have ever been on. It is just a matter of having active moderators to ensure everything does stay neat and tidy. ^^ An example of how neat a group can be when organized can be found here.

On a side note, did you finish NaNoWriMo last year? If so, congratulations! Me and some of my friends have done it. One has been published from a few years ago, and one of them finished with me in 2015.

message 131: by Kytriya (new)

Kytriya Luebeck | 49 comments @Savannah I wasn't aware that Goodread had those options. On the SMF board, you can collapse major topic headings, and underneath each major topic heading, you can have many levels of sub-topics. You can get ridiculous in this regard.

As an example, you could have: (dumb example! Sorry!)
Level 1: Each heading is a different story title.
Level 2: Various cities that is in the story.
Level 3: Places within the specific city.
Level 4: Items within those places.

My forum is private and requires a user account in order to access it, so I can't give you a working example.

For this group, I'd use something along the lines of...

Terms and definitions --> ABC order of boards by term --> Various topics of discussion on term.

Minority Issues
--> ABC order by Country (Country is the name of the board).
--> ABC order by Religion
--> ABC order by Race
--> LGBTQ (name to be whatever is the most inclusive according to what members of this group wants with the most inclusive name winning)
--> Pro-abled (often referred to as disabled)
etc.

Something like that. I'd seriously would have to think about it more as I think I'm on the right track but leaves much to be desired. rofl

message 132: by Tonya (new)

Tonya Kidder | 6 comments I would like to suggest Jenny Lawson's book, "Furiously Happy". It isn't about equality or feminism, but is a book about one woman's journey with learning to be who she really is, and learning to not be afraid to show it and sharing yourself with world.

There is, but only by moderators. So far the moderation is very low, and only Emma's own topic on this month's book is pinned.

Sascha | 391 comments OMG, finally our prayers were heard and messages were read. Though I am not a religious person. But nevertheless, praise the moderators! :)

message 144: by Ash (new)

Ash | 155 comments Well... the topic can be pinned, but no one will see a topic pinned to the top of the folder in the bottom.
This problem can be solved by moving this thread in "general" folder, for example.

message 145: by Ana (new)

Ana (anasoloquiereleer) | 1 comments This is AMAZING!!! Great topics, wonderful opinions. I am glad I joined!

message 146: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan (jonathandevink) | 32 comments Another topic I would like to suggest pinning in a higher up section, would be the (largest) Introduction one? It is in misc. now, and a lot less people seem to be finding it than before. Now ofcourse this might be because less new (active) people are joining now, but I doubt that. I was rather enjoying reading every single introduction :D

message 147: by Ash (new)

Ash | 155 comments We can just move it to the "general" folder instead of pinning, since this folder is on top. It can be done by moderator or by creator of this topic

message 148: by Emilia (new)

Emilia | 2 comments I just want to say that it's really-really-really cool idea to start something like that :) I'm so happy to see that there are more people like me, who consider being a feminist as something positive! LOVE Emma for this. Hope I won't miss any book! Warm hugs everybody!

message 149: by Jonathan (last edited Jan 13, 2016 04:40PM) (new)

Jonathan (jonathandevink) | 32 comments Woop woop! Congratz and good luck, Kodak and Ash! :D "Volunteer Moderators"!

Task number one, delete this (now duplicate) thread? xD
I will be sad to see it go... It sort of felt like a little project of like-minded people within a project of like-minded people :P

Anyway, I am glad we can now really just focus on the goal of this Book Club: Reading and Discussing book on feminism! :D
