Rebecca (rebeccasg) | 3675 comments First of all this is AWESOME.

My question is.....some of the challenges say you can start collecting coins for challenges starting on/after 4/1/16. Can we go back and start challenges using books back dated to 4/1/16? Or should we start from this day forward?

message 6: by Moderators of NBRC, Challenger-in-Chief (new)

Moderators of NBRC | 33015 comments Mod
Starting forward, we'll say from May 1st just because each challenge is different. So I don't want to say sure you can back date on some when some challenges have it that you can't do that.

Since it took us a little while to get out, just wanted to give that extra month of challenges already started to get going on getting the coins, as they won't be as easy to obtain as the Leprechaun Coins were.

Glad you like it. :)

message 7: by Karen D (new)

Karen D | 785 comments Do the emerald coins earned from the Leprechaun challenge count? They look the same as the ones here but that challenge was started before April 1st.

Yes, the Emerald Coins from Leprechaun are part of this. So sorry, didn't think about anyone thinking they couldn't be used because of the April 1st date, since you got them on April 5th. :)

The date is just so that people aren't going back over the past years and claiming coins from before the coins idea came to be. :) The coins were thought up in March, so anything after they came to be is what works for them.

The Emerald Coins everyone earned during Leprechauns are what you can display now, while you earn more! :)

Kay Kay | 1794 comments So will they be available for all the May challenges or just for specific ones?

message 11: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Karrie wrote: "So will they be available for all the May challenges or just for specific ones?"

Likely just specific ones, most likely the newer ones, but it just depends. I'm a little behind on getting them onto new challenges with preparing for Wobble. Sorry!

For May, initially they are already on the CYOA: Circus & Carnival (and all Choose Your Own Adventure Challenges so far). They will go onto MLB. I have to find out if the makers of Apocalypse & Eurovision want them or not, it's up to them. I'll look at the older May ones, see where they can go there as well.

I'll try to work on it some today.

message 14: by ChrisP (new)

ChrisP Poyner Can you use the same book for different gem coin challenge?
For example: Am I able to use a book from a seasonal challenge and again for choose your own adventure?

message 15: by Moderators of NBRC, Challenger-in-Chief (new)

Moderators of NBRC | 33015 comments Mod
If the challenge itself allows books across multiple challenges, then yes, it's allowed, with exceptions. Right now, mainly CYOA.

Choose Your Own Adventure must be it's own books. CYOA books can not be used across other Choose Your Own Adventure challenges, but from CYOA to say a seasonal challenge is ok.

Yes. Since it's was never posted you don't count it as part of BOM. So if you did all others, you get your coins :)

You receive them when completing challenges where they are stated and also for participating in Book of the Month reads and team challenges. You can see a list of challenges with Gem Coins here.
You keep your own tally and use the 'display' area to record your gems :) - Links are in the first post of this thread

Thanks for the reminder Angie!
I've thrown in Amethyst coins to a couple of challenges and add them to the list. We will also have them in the new 2017 Author and Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ Choice Awards challenges.
If there is an existing theme challenge that was created by the Mod Account that you would like us to add gem coins to, just let me know and we will check it out and see if we can add them in :)

This thread will probably help:
/topic/show/...

Then you create a folder in the Gem Coin Display thread and keep track of your coins :)

Hey Ilja
Welcome to the world of gem coins!
You only usually receive one gem coin in a challenge and only if it is posted in the messages at the start of the challenge thread. It will usually say the type of coin and how many.
If a challenge doesn’t have gem coins shown then you don’t receive any for that one.

(You don’t get a gem coin just for participating in any challenge)

I hope that makes sense!

No problems. If you ever want to do an older challenge that doesn't have coins, and you'd like it to, just let us know. It just has been set up under the "Moderator" account (not a personal account) for us to be able to edit it and add in gem coins

Jessica | 546 comments In the earning gems thread, you mentioned getting a gem for welcoming 10 people to the group. Where do we welcome them? How do you know when we welcomed 10 people?

message 41: by Li'l Owl (new)

Li'l Owl | 191 comments Wow! Very nice! I'm very new so bare with me.
When you say after 2016 you're saying anything from then to now?
Question - example July icecream challenge can I start this late? Today's date then two months? Is it too late to start.
Thanks!
I'm sure that's not the end of my questions but I do learn fast and I look at others challenges to get the idea!

Sorry notifications haven't been on for this thread *hangs head in shame*
Intro thread for 2018 is here: /topic/show/...

You track your own challenge for gem coins, so just count when you have 10 and you can link that back to your tracking post :)

Alysa H. | 3830 comments Forgive me, I am just today starting to explore this whole Gem Coin thing. I’m sure this has been answered elsewhere but I cannot seem to find it...

Re Ruby coins for BOMs, if one completes “ALL days DQs within month of BOM start, one actually gets 2 coins in total, correct? Because that means one has also done “half DQ participation, obviously...

NEVERMIND! I found it :D

message 48: by Alysa (new)

Alysa H. | 3830 comments And for something like this:
The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer, BOM December 2017, Comment #s 27, 35, 38, & 42

Is that enough for 1 coin for half DQ participation?

message 49: by Alysa (new)

Alysa H. | 3830 comments Last question, I swear!

If I use a gift card (or multiple gift cards) to extend a Gem Coin-earning challenge, do I still get the coin at the end? Or is the coin, like, forfeit because of not completing the challenge in the originally intended time?

Not really, no. For example , If there is 4 days of questions and answering two days worth of almost all the questions or all the questions .. then that would be half participation.
