Thanks for the info. :)

Of course I know that you were joking - I am not offended in any way. I just get really excited to know that I can do that kind of stuff and am glad to share it with anyone who is interested. Especially you Loretta!!!

Thank you so much - this is perfect and soooo very helpful. Now I can see just how many books I may or may not be able to get to. ;-)

Would you mind setting up a discussion thread for the buddy read of The Blind Assassin? Thanks

Yes sure, I'll do it now :)

message 59: by Pink (new)

Pink | 5491 comments Is anyone still planning on reading The Light and the Dark in July? There's no buddy read thread set up for it yet and I can't remember who's planning to read it. We can always postpone if everyone is swamped right now?

Pink, I still have plans to but it is not going to be this month. I don't remember who else is interested but if we need to take it off the list it would be okay with me.

message 62: by Dianne (new)

Dianne I'm up to read Light and Dark whenever, putting it off is fine with me.

message 63: by Pink (new)

Pink | 5491 comments Bat-Cat, no problem with leaving it on the list for now, I just didn't want people to forget and miss out. There's no pressure to read if people don't have time now. We'll wait and see if anyone else is still interested and go from there.

Brina I'm ready to start Life on the Mississippi whenever others are. Finished Gone With the Wind!!! Thanks to this group and buddy reads or I never would have even attempted it ❤️

I'm still planning on reading it but won't be able to start until late July or early August

Darren (dazburns) | 2118 comments I am clearing the decks for Underworld in August (gulp!)

should I start the thread myself, or will the Magic Moderator Pixies do it for me? ;o)

message 68: by Pink (new)

Please, I honestly think I can do without the nickname Pixie.

message 72: by Pink (new)

Pink | 5491 comments Oh Bob, but a magic moderator pixie sounds great! If only everything got done so easily, I could certainly do with some pixie magic at times :)

message 73: by Pink (new)

Pink | 5491 comments Darren, I've added a link to the buddy read list for the discussion of Underworld.

Bat-Cat and Dianne, I've removed The Light and the Dark from the July list. Let me know if you arrange to read later in the year and I'll pop it back on.

message 74: by Dianne (new)

Dianne Ok thanks pink! Batcat, just let me know :)

message 75: by Bat-Cat (new)

Bat-Cat | 986 comments Sounds good Pink and Dianne. I've been rather out of pocket these days for various reasons as well, I have been trying to get caught up on completing some of my way too many books I have going. Hopefully there will be a little bit of wiggle room to add this book in the next few months. You guys are always the greatest and thanks so much for your understanding and patience. ;-)

message 76: by Brina (new)

Brina Pink a few of us are starting Lonesome Dove next month. Can you please add to the list?

message 77: by Pink (new)

Pink | 5491 comments Brina wrote: "Pink a few of us are starting Lonesome Dove next month. Can you please add to the list?"

I've added to the list, with links to the discussion thread :)

message 78: by Pink (new)

Pink | 5491 comments Brina, I didn't realise we already have discussion threads for Lonesome Dove. Kathy has linked to them on the new buddy read thread you set up, so you can find them easily. I'll amend the link in the list above :)

Steve Finegan | 129 comments Pink wrote: "I thought since we have quite a few current and upcoming buddy reads, that I'd create a master list for everything that is taking place."

Hey Pink, I just came across your comprehensive buddy reads schedule (yeah, I've been out of the loop). Very nice! Thank you! I'm stoked for the LoTR and Magic Mountain reads this fall!

message 81: by Pink (new)

Pink | 5491 comments Well, it looks like The Lord of the Rings won our quarterly classic poll from Oct-Dec! So I'll remove it from the buddy read schedule for Sep-Nov. I know this moves things back one month, but hopefully this is okay with everyone and gives you all some extra time!

The Hobbit is still on September's buddy read schedule for those of you who are interested.

message 82: by Ellen (new)

Ellen B Hmmm, hadn't seen The Hobbit here (guess I should follow this thread). If I remember/have time, I may join with that.

Yes, it has been in the polls several times -- I guess it was due to win!

message 84: by Ellen (new)

Ellen B I remember seeing some discussion of a buddy read of The Divine Comedy toward the end of the year, but don't see it in the schedule. Has that been assigned to a month yet?

Loretta | 2200 comments Ellen wrote: "I remember seeing some discussion of a buddy read of The Divine Comedy toward the end of the year, but don't see it in the schedule. Has that been assigned to a month yet?"

It's in the running in the polls Ellen, again.

Melanti | 1894 comments Ellen wrote: "I remember seeing some discussion of a buddy read of The Divine Comedy toward the end of the year, but don't see it in the schedule. Has that been assigned to a month yet?"

Not yet. As Loretta says, it will be in the polls again for November. It'd probably be Oct. or Nov. buddy read if that's the way it ends up, but there wasn't an exact month (or 3 months) agreed on - just a generic "fall".

message 87: by Ellen (new)

Ellen B Ok. Sounds good. I'll probably join in when it comes up.

message 88: by Lena (new)

Lena | 344 comments Silmarillion is sort of the first book, I was hoping to read that and The Hobbit mid month. Excited for the LOTR BOM read!!!

message 89: by Kim (new)

Kim | 174 comments Lena wrote: "Silmarillion is sort of the first book, I was hoping to read that and The Hobbit mid month. Excited for the LOTR BOM read!!!"

Didn't realize that Silmarillion was the first book. I thought it was written after, and more of a supplementary read. I was planning on reading the Hobbit and LOTR this fall/winter, and maybe I'll need to tack that one onto the list, too, now. :)

message 90: by Lena (new)

Lena | 344 comments It was an after death origins publish - backstory. I think for such an involved world it's a must read. I haven't read much high fantasy.

message 91: by Lilly (new)

Lilly | 447 comments Actually, the Silmarillion cannot be dated that easily. As far as I understand the matter, Tolkien kept writing on it - re-editing, adding, deleting, writing stories completely anew, etc. ...
Thus, some of the stories contained in the Silmarillion are on a very old level, while others are "newer".
This can sometimes lead to difficulties:
Glorfindel, for example, dies in one of these stories, set a long time before the LotR. Still, during the first part, "The Fellowship of the Ring", he is one of those searching for Frodo and - being one of the last great elf-lords in middle earth - chases the black riders into the Isen. - Obviously, Tolkien did not manage to re-write the first story before his death.
I think it is important, while reading the "Silmarillion", to keep in mind that it is actually an unfinished work. It may contain some of the oldest fragments of middle earth. But it is also much "unpolished" in other aspects and may seem in contrast to some other parts of Tolkien's work.

Ellen B So many books I want to read and not enough time. I'll (hopefully) get around to Dante and Dracula at some point, but for the moment I'll focus on my intent to read Dr. Zhivago and A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by the end of the year. Whew. :)
