Following a series of armed robberies at a number of branches of Texas Midland Bank where very little money was taken, we learn that the motive of unemployed oil and gas worker Toby Howard and his brother -- just released from prison -- is to raise enough money to pay off the reverse mortgage that will forfeit their recently deceased mother's ranch if not paid off. Oil was discovered on the ranch and in order to secure the future of his sons and ex wife, Toby needs $43,000. After two of the robberies, curmudgeonly Texas Ranger Marcus Hamilton and his American Indiana deputy partner pick up the trial and just miss foiling the next, and last robbery.

~Joan of Arc: Her Story by Régine Pernoud(4): The foremost bio of the 15th century French insurrectionist. I liked the extensive index of characters, which made it easier to follow the insanity of the 100 years war. The actual bio was a smidge fluffy in style, but the book's structure and supplemental material made up for it.~

~The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood (5): In a world where women are alotted space according to their breeding potential, Offred is a handmaiden. Sex so precious, a rapist is ripped apart handidly by females.~

~The Sermon on the Mount: The Key to Success in Life by Emmet Fox(4): A "metaphysical" analysis of Matthew chapters 5-7. While I disagree with the aside that there is no theology in the Bible, I found this book to be a solid study in spiritual self-discovery. His logical structure was off at time, and he used some jargon without defining it, which detracted from the book.~

It was nonfiction done right and completely different than the film. I have not often read nonfiction about mathmeticians/scientists, but this book seemed well researched and balanced.

~A Concise Biography of Adolf Hitler by Thomas Fuchs (3): Hitler served in the German army in WWI, and was Feuhrer of the SS and Nazi Party in WWII. Though interesting and concise, the book is biased despite the author's claims to the contrary. The querrelous intro and snarky narrative lowered my rating.~

~Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch by Terry Pratchett & Neil Gaiman (4): Though the most popular GR genre tags for this novel include Sci-fi, Humor, Fantasy, and Fiction, the entire plot centers around the war between good and evil and the apocalyptic events precipitated by the birth of the Antichrist. More of a psyhological and philosphical war, but tangible nonetheless and very bloody scenes are prolific (see: Gaimen).~

~Sutton by J.R. Moehringer (5): The Library of Congress has catalogued this novel as 1. Sutton, Willie—fiction 2. Brigands and robbers. The robber is strangely likeable, and the author captures the sparkle of the New Bank Robbing Era (my term, obviously). Very cool.~

�A MC who is in law enforcement.
~Glory in Death by J.D. Robb (5): Lieutenant Eve Dallas is a NY police officer in 2058. Wonderful sequel, even if a little predictable.~

~Friction by Sandra Brown (3): Too bad. This book could've been so good with Texas Rangers and Texan courthouses and Texan gun-rings. But nope. We get poor editing and extremely cliche "caveman" romance. No me gusta.~

Oil was discovered on the ranch and in order to secure the future of his sons and ex wife, Toby needs $43,000. After two of the robberies, curmudgeonly Texas Ranger Marcus Hamilton and his American Indiana deputy partner pick up the trial and just miss foiling the next, and last robbery.
