Douglas Adam's The Hitchhiker's Guide... is already on the shelf. How about adding his Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency or The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul? This is a series and the Holistic Detective novel is the 1st. They are among the most highly-rated and popular novels included in Boxall's "1001 Books You Must Read...". I've previously read The Hitchhiker's Guide and maybe a lot of the other members have also.

That's a good idea, George! I have read Hitchhiker's Guide + the whole series (and loved it!). I haven't read Dirk Gently though.
