Lauri (otwlauri) | 7 comments I'm reading To Be Where You Are by Jan Karon right now and totally loving it! Her gentle stories about small town life in Mitford are just so comforting and heartwarming! You really come to care for the characters and feel as if you know them personally!

Also reading The House of Unexpected Sisters by Alexander McCall Smith. This series is somewhat similar, even though it takes place in far-off Botswana. Characters with moral fiber and family values make you feel as though you're visiting with old friends!

This is what I’ll be reading for that prompt too! But I have no intention of doing the prompts in order, so right now I am reading The Winter Sea by Susanna Kearsley (forgot which prompt it’s for though!). I am only 10% in, but loving it already.

I’m also reading Renegades by Marissa Meyer. I think it’s got every cliche in the superhero genre, but I also think superheroes are the one subject that can get away with it. It’s pretty fun.

Admittedly, baby ones are rare.

PS: Book was pretty good (and harmless). I think it will be 4+ stars for most middle school readers, whether they are vampires or bunnies*

*read the book, I'm not giving spoilers :p

The Book of Secrets, so far this book is cute. I am curious to see what this library is all about. "Abernathy’s Bookstore, it’s the world’s only living oracle producing prophecies to help fight the war against alien invaders bent on draining this world of its magic."

A freebie.
Not enjoying this all that much. Will probably be a 2 star.

Reading physical book Original Sin (Seven Deadly Sins, #1) by Allison Brennan
This one is pretty good. Written with the tone of mystery detective instead of urban fantasy. A 3 or 4 star read. We'll see!

message 131: by Kenny (new)

Kenny Hyman So, I've been reading Call of Cthulu. I know a lot about Lovecraftian horror, but never actually read the book. It's not an easy read, but the book is intriguing. Not sure I'd recommend though. It's definitely a read that you do for the bragging rights ha.

message 132: by Alana (new)

Alana | 19 comments Sarah & Aly: I am a huge Jo Nesbo fan and "The Snowman" is one of my favorite books.
Right now I am re-reading Stephen King's "'salem's Lot" and afterwards plan to track down a copy of "The Tommyknockers." I started this book long ago, becoming thoroughly engrossed in my roommate's copy, then she moved out and I was devastated -- not because she left but because she took the book when I was in the middle of reading it!😂

Diwita Mathivanan So I am starting Broken Republic and hopefully it's going to be an interesting read!

message 136: by Emma (new)

Emma Hörberg | 5 comments I´m soon done reading a Swedish book, a biography. About a girl who´s living with social phobia, autism and selective mutism. The author has released the book by herself. The last thing I think is kind of interesting, because I´m soon gonna release my own first novel!
Then I thought of beginning to read S. Kings serie of "The black tower".

message 137: by Alana (new)

Alana | 19 comments I bought the Mrs. Peregrine's book after walking past it in a bookstore and being thoroughly arrested by the title and cover photo. Was excited when I saw the first trailer about the movie but it didn't come out with a "bang" where I live, & have since seen pretty bad reviews (of the movie). I loved how the author was inspired to write the book, though, ending up a collector of odd antique photographs.

message 138: by Alana (new)

Alana | 19 comments Emma, can you tell me the name of the book? I have researched and educated people about selective mutism but honestly haven't come across much that is interesting to read; some reinforce the fallacy that a shock or traumatic event or some kind of weird abuse causes the disorder (like PTS syndrome), which is usually not the case.

Emma Hörberg | 5 comments Alana wrote: "Emma, can you tell me the name of the book? I have researched and educated people about selective mutism but honestly haven't come across much that is interesting to read; some reinforce the fallac..."

The name of the book is (in Swedish) "Om ett missfoster". In English it means "About a freak". The author is Pauline Wågström. :) She wrote about herself, how she made it through school and so on.

message 140: by Alana (new)

Alana | 19 comments Thank you! It does not appear to be available in English (unless you know otherwise?) Ah well.

message 144: by Sarah (new)

Sarah I’m reading The Three-Body Problem by Cixin Liu. The first part is really historical science fiction but part two (about 25% into the book) the pace begins to pick up and gets really interesting. Im enjoying it a lot and can’t wait to see where it goes next.

Emma | 4 comments I've just finished reading A.J.Finn's The Woman in the Window. It's a great page turner, definitely one to get engrossed in, if a little slow in the beginning, I enjoyed it. I believe from things I've read it has similarities to The Girl on the Train, but I haven't read that one. Currently deciding what my next read will be.

message 150: by Patricia (new)
