Patricia | 971 comments I just finished Wunderland by Jennifer Cody Epstein I have no idea how I'm going to review it so I'll sleep on it and try tomorrow. The first 75% of the book was a really hard read for me. At times it was just plain boring. The last 25% was fantastic and actually brought tears to my eyes.

If you review and read this please help me. I'm kind of stuck on this one.

Tomorrow I start the Code Talkers book.

Patricia | 971 comments I just finished and reviewed The Price of Compassion (The Golden City, #4) by A.B. Michaels

This is a book I'd love to discuss with someone. It's historical fiction with a murder mystery at the heart of it. The way it's written is really unique because instead of investigating the crime the book investigates the life of the accused. It's hard to explain but was good. It also has a lot of San Francisco history in it leading up to, during and after the 1907 earthquake. I had no idea bubonic plague was rampant in San Francisco at that time.

Isabella Harron | 10 comments I was feeling a little naughty and needed something to make me sparkle. I just finished a new author to Kindle. Charley Crestland and her latest book Double Irish Delight. It surprised me. Made me smile and yes it left me warm and tingling. A great short read for an afternoon. Double Irish Delight: A Sexy MFM romance

Neal Wilson I'm reading The Cumberland Killers: A Kentucky Mystery very enjoyable so far. The narrator is a young newspaper reporter searching for whoever murdered his friend, a TV news photographer. It is set in 1985 and full of references to all the things that were unfolding in the country at that time, both a mystery and historical fiction.

Anyone found something great to read they would like to share?

message 313: by Patricia (new)

Patricia | 971 comments Aly there was a new book released in the Butterfly Garden series. I bought it but haven't read it. Unfortunately I still haven't read anything. 😨 It's hard to motivate when you don't feel well and feel so tired. I see a new Dr on the 31st so hopefully they will get me on a treatment plan and schedule. I hate this. I need my life back.

Nathan Waters (literaryarmy) | 17 comments I am in a huge reading slump. I just can't bring myself to care about reading books anymore. My brain just goes "NOPE" anytime I even think about reading. I don't know why I am acting this way. Can someone help?

message 318: by Peter (new)

Peter D'Hollander (peter_dragon) | 3 comments First, try to figure out why you don't want to read anymore. Second, take some time off. Go walking. Enjoy a good movie. Enjoy people.

I agree, find something new you enjoy (like life, friends, family) in time I think the love of reading will come back.

I started this series Stolen Soul (Yliaster Crystal #1) by Alex Rivers . So far it is a great book, I think I will read more of this series! The characters are fun and I like the humor in the book too.

Patricia | 971 comments Naomi I haven't read anything since November. A huge part of my issue is health problems but I also look at the huge selection of books on my kindle and I'm overwhelmed by choices. I keep telling myself "just choose one" but it doesn't work.

I'm actually bored out of my mind but can't pick a book on the days I feel well and then massive fatigue hits which makes it impossible to read.

You sound like you're where I'm at. I want to read but can't for some reason or other. I know I'll get back to it eventually but it's beyond frustrating to try to start and fail. Boredom is killing me though so I have to find a book I have the NEED to read because it's calling my name.

I think everyone goes through reading slumps for different reasons. It's just a matter of finding your way out of it. If I figure out how to do it I'll let you know how I managed. Right now my slump is looking endless.

message 322: by Emily Kestrel (new)

Emily Kestrel | 22 comments I hate it when I get in a reading slump. Sometimes I can get excited about reading again by participating in a reading challenge--the last time I had a bad slump, I got the idea to find as many books as I could that had a bird mentioned in the title, and it turned into a lot of fun. Or I will go to the library and browse the shelves until I find a book in some random category like a story set in Hawaii, etc.

Another thing I do if I can't stand the thought of actually reading but want to enjoy a book is listen to an audiobook while I'm doing chores or driving.

Or, as other people have said, just do whatever else I want to do until a new book catches my interest.

Patricia | 971 comments I have so many I want to read but by the time I sit down to do it I need a nap. 😂 This month amazon had a bunch of new historical fiction books for $1.99 on the first then on the 3rd Harper had a bunch of best sellers for $1.99. All of them were on my wish list so I picked them up. I also have Moloka'i (Moloka'i #1) by Alan Brennert and Daughter of Moloka'i (Moloka'i, #2) by Alan Brennert that I really am looking forward to reading. I was sent an ARC of Courting Mr. Lincoln by Louis Bayard that looks amazing. Yesterday I got a hard cover copy of Star Spangled Scandal Sex, Murder, and the Trial that Changed America by Chris DeRose for review. This weekend I'm going to make myself start it. I think it sounds fascinating and it's a piece of history I've never heard about.

I had been reading for review and typically read 2 to 4 books a week. It's really had to motivate myself right now because I've been in an autoimmune flare up since November. I'm hoping it will go away soon because it has stolen my life. I just started seeing a new doctor at the VA who is amazing so I hope she'll send me to the specialists I need.

I don't have cable or an antenna so I've been watching DVD's. TV is mind numbingly boring for me. I need to read again because boredom is killing me.

Is anyone else a history geek? I'd love to have a partner read because I love discussing the historical fiction/nonfiction I'm reading.
