Looking forward to seeing what you think about this one. I read Cowboys Don't Ride Unicorns by Tara Lain and I liked it. Plus the title was just so darn cute!

Review: I've been looking forward to this book since I saw it announced, this author's first book is one of my all time favorites. Unfortunately, this book didn't seem to have the same magic as Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda, but it was still very enjoyable for a YA contemporary romance. I really liked the strong friendships and family dynamics, I think a lot of YA books seem to be missing this element. The semi love triangle was pretty boring, but endgame romance was cute enough to bump this from 3 stars to 4.

Review - I'm not a huge fan of angst or GFY books so I was surprised with how much I liked this. It was very well told so I believed the truth in what both Evan and Matt were feeling. I also loved Evan's children and their acceptance of Matt. I'll be interested to see if future books touch on how their relationship has progressed.

Week #4, Option 1

Book: Knight of Ocean Avenue by Tara Lain

Review:
I liked this book in the beginning, the characters were promising and I liked Chase's personality and his style. But there is a point in this novel when cheating is addressed and I think they presented that in a bad light. I didn't like the writing and I felt like the ending to all the book's conflicts were too neatly resolved. I will not read another book in this series anytime soon.

Week #4, Option 1

Book: Then the Stars Fall

Review:
I liked this one but I didn't love it. It took me awhile to warm up to Travis. Although I understood where he was coming from and he was doing the best he could to raise his kids and was still dealing with his grief. He was a flawed character who grew quite a bit during the book (which I really loved). I liked Wesley as well and he had his flaws as well. The romance took quite awhile to get going and the sex scenes were all basically more of a fade to black with the first time together off page. I did like that once Travis decided to move forward he committed completely and I thought the first horribly awkward date was so realistically written (I was cringing for both of them). So a lot of good things but it just wasn't quite a 4 star read for me.

Week #4, Option 1

Book: Alex by Sawyer Bennett
Rating: ★★★★
Review:I've read Books #2, 3, and 4 in this series, so it was very interesting to finally go back to the beginning. And I'm so glad I did. Alex is an unusual hero because he's basically unlikeable, at least at first. He's a star hockey player, but he has a terrible don't-care attitude towards his fellow players and even to the fans. He's told by management that he needs to be the spokesperson for a drug-related program. While he's not against the program, he's not good at being told what to do. When he meets Sutton, the liaison, however, he's attracted to her despite himself. I liked that he was alpha but wasn't all sweetness and light to everyone. He had demons that he had accepted about himself. Sutton, on the other hand, has had tough breaks in life, but she's the type who has fought to overcome them. She's positive and nurturing and loving--exactly what Alex needs. They struggle as they develop a relationship, and their together moments are hot and sexy. Very entertaining read, and it's gotten me interested again in this series.

Review: For a novella, there was a lot of plot packed into the book. I haven't read any of the other books of the series yet, but I'm definitely hooked now. I loved the relationship between Kyle and his brother and his friends. I also thought the relationship between Kyle and Alexis was done well.

Review: This book was okay. Predictable. It was not very exciting, and I thought the male MC was a bit whiny. I like male MC's to be more macho.

Review: This was a solid romance and I enjoyed it. My only complaint was Mark - I didn't think he added anything to the story - a little at the beginning, but since he didn't appear throughout the book when you'd expect him to be there, i thought his reappearance was pointless.

Review:
I don't really think there are people who have not heard of this book. It's one of the most loved and most discussed books of the year, so I decided to read it because I was curious about the plot and to find out if it is really that good. Although I did not understand many of the references and I can’t pretend to be able to relate to what Starr went through, I did like the author's style, and I have to admit I enjoyed the book overall. I liked the characters, which are complex and realistic, in my opinion. My favorite part was how the author depicts Starr's family and how wonderful they are with their children and their neighbors. I also enjoyed the fact that, although it has a strong message about police brutality and racism, this story has funny moments, too. I'm happy that I read the book and I think it's a notable read.
My favorite quotes were: “Sometimes you can do everything right and things will still go wrong. The key is to never stop doing right. “You can destroy wood and brick, but you can't destroy a movement. “A hairbrush is not a gun.

Week #5, Option 1

Book:Her Leading Man by Maggie Dallen

Review:This feels like a sweet old-fashioned romance, although there were definitely some hot moments. Caitlyn is a quiet woman who likes to knit and watch classic movies. As a matter of fact, she and her friends are trying to save a dying classic-movie theater. Along comes Ben, first a disastrous blind date, then a surprise roommate. He and Caitlyn have romantic chemistry, although it's more sweet than explosive. I found their moments together to be warm and loving, and I enjoyed seeing their love grow, despite Ben's resistance. There's a bit of drama that develops over the theater, and both characters need to work through their bad break-ups, but overall I enjoyed this book and will look for more in this series.

Week 5, Option 1

Book: What Remains by Garrett Leigh
Rating: ★★★★
Review: Although I really loved the emotional impact of this book and I got wrapped up in both the story and the characters there was just a little something missing for me. I loved Jodi and Rupert together and the flashbacks really showed just how wonderful they were together. I'm not always a fan of flashbacks as sometimes it takes me out of the story but they were used perfectly in this one and helped the reader understand just how much was lost when Jodi forgot five years of his life. I also thought the TBI parts were so well done. The author didn't take the easy way out and showed the difficulties of someone with a TBI. I'm glad there was no complete recovery and the author showed that Jodi was going to be living with this for the rest of his life. What I struggled with was that once Jodi realized he was attracted to Rupert it seemed that he went from attraction to love almost instantly. I wanted him to re-learn Rupert a bit more before he started returning the I love yous. It was like he told himself well I used to love him so I must still love him but I wanted more moments between them before he started to love Rupert again. Overall an emotional and beautiful story.

Review: I'm not even sure how to review this book other then I thought it was beautiful, even with the fact that it never shied away from some very tough topics. This is a topic that is very personal to me, as I've struggled with mental illness for most of my life and have seen it affect others in my life as well. Charlie's life story is very very different from mine, but still felt very relatable and I've been a bit of an emotional wreck all week reading this, It dealt with the topics at hand while never once romanticizing MI, something most YA books tend to do with this topic, unfortunately. I realize this wouldn't be a book for everyone though, and the writing style could be very choppy in some parts almost feeling like diary entries, but I thought it displayed the emotions the main character was feeling at the time very well. I'm hopeful this author will write more books.

Also, I'm still chugging away at my book from week 4, hopeful to have it done soon, sorry for the delay.

Review: This book was very predictable. Boy and girl from different sides of the tracks fall in love. Dad bribes boy to stay away from girl. Girl leaves town and returns 7 years later. Boy and girl get back together. I wish there was more chemistry between the characters.

I have a general question - is there a way on goodreads to sort out books by publisher. I took a few books I was planning to read for upcoming challenges and checked each one, but is there a way to do a search by publisher? I know Amazon has a way to search by publisher, but couldn't find a way to search my tbr other than by opening each book.

Week #6, Option 1

Book: Nothing as it Seems by Thomas Hall
Rating: ★★★★
Review: This story compelled me to turn the pages even when we basically knew the identity of the killer. The persistent police procedure and gathering of information seemed very realistic and captured my attention, even though it sometimes got bogged down in day-to-day minutia. I especially liked the fact that the ending was in the form of a newspaper article, providing the final details in a more subtle way. And the twist at the end was brief, provocative, and a fun surprise.

Review: This book was amazing. Its about an alcoholic rock star and a limo driver/industrial engineer who has a heart condition that get thrown together. They start off as friends and then fall in love. The character development in this book was awesome. All I'm going to say is this is definitely an ugly cry book, but well worth it.
