20 for 1? That's fantastic!! Super ambitious. I also am wildly impressed that you took the time to input both book AND author links. O_o

Also - where did you snag the Feist/Wurts Empire trilogy on Audio?? It's one of my favs, but I never seem to have time for rereads. I'd love an audio copy...

message 11: by Bill (new)

Bill | 2150 comments Thanks. Wanted a list that I could cross stuff off of rather than a shelf. The 20 to 1 ratio should be pretty easy since my buying has really slowed down in recent months anyway.

The Empire trilogy is actually on cds. I got it at a book sale and couldn't resist even though I don't really have anything to play them on. Will figure something out once I get to that point in the series.

I followed suit a bit for my digital and Audible. It makes it so much more gratifying to cross stuff off lol.

I can't scrounge up copies anywhere. If you ever want to get rid of them, I'll buy them from you lol. I'm actually very curious to see how you end up rating them. :)

Bill | 2150 comments Bought 3 books to use up the remainder of a gift card. All 3 are continuations of series. Good to go now.

The Ruin of Angels by Max Gladstone 6th book in the Craft Sequence
Breath and Bone by Carol Berg 2nd book in the Lighthouse Duet
The Flames of Shadam Khoreh by Bradley P. Beaulieu 3rd book in the Lays of Anuskaya trilogy

message 16: by Bill (new)

Bill | 2150 comments 10 down and 10 to go. Not feeling any urge to go on a spending spree so all is well so far.

message 17: by Bill (last edited Oct 11, 2017 08:57PM) (new)

Bill | 2150 comments Got 24 audible credits today so went a little wild but they are all continuations of series so I get by with that cheat.

Picked up Flesh and Spirit by Carol Berg which I was loving but was taking me too long in ebook. Also picked up the sequel Breath and Bone.

Also got The Core by Peter V. Brett so I can bring that series to a close.

Picked up the remaining books in two other trilogies to hopefully finish them up soon. The first series is the Second Sons by Jennifer Fallon and the other series is The Grim Company by Luke Scull. Picked up book one of the Grim Company too so I can reread.

Last one is An Echo Of Things To Come by James Islington which I will probably hold off on until closer to book 3 or I run low on other books.

"They are all continuations"...

First up: Lighthouse #1... :D... just giving you a hard time...

I think I'm going to have to re-up my 24 credits early this year... we'll see...

message 19: by Niki Hawkes, I made it past GOTM... barely (new)

Niki Hawkes - The Obsessive Bookseller | 7639 comments Mod
The purchases may not be so great for your overflowing challenge but it sure nails the incomplete series one. If you borrow rules from the bookend challenge you have nothing to worry about haha. I did the same thing when my credits renewed.

Speaking of - hey Iain, is there actually a way to renew credits early? Aside from cancelling and resigning up? I tried to figure it out a few years ago but couldn't.

message 20: by Timelord Iain, Tech Support (new)

Timelord Iain | 33659 comments Mod
Account details -> Switch Membership -> Your current membership plan has a select button to renew early... I think this only works for the yearly plans...

But this is speculation... I haven't actually done it yet... because I had a stockpile of credits for awhile... I think I started this year in March with 33-36 credits...

message 21: by Niki Hawkes, I made it past GOTM... barely (new)

Niki Hawkes - The Obsessive Bookseller | 7639 comments Mod
Sweet thanks! I may need it. I can usually space them out over the year pretty well but I'm only two months in and down 10.

message 22: by Timelord Iain, Tech Support (new)

Timelord Iain | 33659 comments Mod
I'm 7 months in and down to 15... probably run out a little early... NEXT YEAR I'll run out super early... it's you guys fault... Buddy Reads push me to spend audible credits more often when I can't get a book any other way, instead of just waiting like I usually would otherwise, unless it's a book I REALLY WANT...

message 23: by Niki Hawkes, I made it past GOTM... barely (new)

Niki Hawkes - The Obsessive Bookseller | 7639 comments Mod
Yup - buddy reads are responsible for 7 of those haha. At least they were excellent.

Bill | 2150 comments Iain wrote: ""They are all continuations"...

...I was um switching formats for the continuation of the book. 😁

I’m 1 day in and down 9 credits. Saving the rest for new releases that continue or hopefully finish series.

message 25: by Timelord Iain, Tech Support (new)

Timelord Iain | 33659 comments Mod
Only reason my credits don't dwindle quickly is I don't buy ahead... I did that once and didn't like the previous book so much that I never continued the series... refunding credits for reasons like that are a hassle...

message 26: by Bill (new)

Bill | 2150 comments I picked up new release of book 3 in the Yarnsworld series Those Brave, Foolish Souls from the City of Swords. It is $1 for a few days only so had to snag it.

message 27: by Bill (new)

Bill | 2150 comments Ok so been cheating too much with the continuations so going into hard freeze mode. Going to go with a 10 to 1 ratio for continuations so freeze will last until I get to 110 books done for this challenge. Let’s see how I do with that.

message 41: by Bill (new)

Bill | 2150 comments So I wanted to do 100 books for this challenge this year but have only done 24 so far. Doubt I’ll get another 76 done in the second half but will try. I’ve been getting a ton of books out of the library and hoopla so at least not adding to the pile. I’ve bought 10 books this year and already read 6 so doing better in that regard too.

message 42: by Bill (new)

Bill | 2150 comments Bought two books today from audible sale Seveneves and Redshirts. Only bought 12 books so far this year which is really good for me. Have read 8 of them so far.

message 43: by Laura (new)

Laura (lauradragonchild) | 6554 comments Wow Bill! That's great! 12 books in so many months!

I'm gonna try some self-restraint also - fingers crossed it works but I doubt it.
Bought 20 books only this month. Without even having read those I bought last month. (*sigh*).

message 44: by Bill (new)

Bill | 2150 comments Thanks Laura. I think switching to reading almost all audiobooks has really cut down on random buys. Audiobooks are too expensive to buy in bulk.

I always end up not reading most of the titles I select for a month so I gave up setting goals like this.

message 50: by Bill (new)

Bill | 2150 comments Thanks Laura. I used to try to do goals but it seemed like anything I put on a list I would immediately not want to read. I’ve been keeping to a schedule the last 3 months though so I’m hoping I can do it this time.
