Gaby (myth_hikari) | 14 comments Hi Wonderful Writers!

If you're looking for an affordable, honest, reliable, and experienced beta reader to help you give some (structural) insights on your bookbaby, you've come to the right place!

I will provide:
- Comments within your MS through Word Track changes;
- Brief feedback per chapter;
- Multipage Full Review via a story assessment form going over Characterization, Plot, Pacing, Worldbuilding, etc.
- Light proofediting because I cannot ignore an error when I see it.
- Quick turnaround (2 weeks max. though I'm often faster)
- Guaranteed open and honest communication through email (I typically respond within 24 hours)

All fiction books are welcome! Fantasy, Horror, Sci-Fi, and YA books hold a special place in my heart.
I generally do not accept Non-fiction as it is unfortunately not my forte, but if the topic is something I find interesting I’m always willing to give new things a try!

Ask me for a free first chapter sample to see if my services are a match to your needs. Just fill out the form here:

Fuad Baloch (authorfuadbaloch) | 6 comments I've been working with Gaby for about 2 years now across multiple projects.

Throughout my three series, I've used quite a few editors and beta readers, but I still go to Gaby as my first port of call!

If you're looking for a beta reader par excellence, reach out to her :)

message 6: by Liahona (new)

Liahona West (liahonawestauthor) | 1 comments For anyone who is looking for an amazing beta reader, this is your gal! I've used her twice now for different versions of my manuscript and she has never failed to disappoint. I always receive so much information, advice, and feedback from her, and her rates are very reasonable.

message 7: by David (new)

David Lucin | 1 comments I've worked with Gaby on five books now, and I won't publish anything without having her read it twice first. She's got a real eye for storytelling, and sometimes, I think she knows my characters better than I do. She really does go above and beyond. Highly recommended.

message 9: by Eugene (new)

Eugene | 2 comments If I knew I could get such good quality feedback from paid beta-reading, I would have done it earlier. I found Gaby here in the beta reading group in January.

Gaby is a miracle beta-reader. She was exactly what I was looking for in a beta reader and MORE. In my opinion, she goes above and beyond what a beta reader should do. She is super professional as well.

I've had critique partners and other beta-readers in the past, and no one has come close to the amount of detail in feedback Gaby has given me.

I didn't think there was any other way I could improve my manuscript until Gaby read it. She put me on the right track to make it even better.

I will definitely use Gaby's services again for my next book.

message 10: by Kimberley (new)

Kimberley Cale (kimcale) | 3 comments Wow! That was my first thought when I looked at the feedback I received from Gabriella Michaelis. She’s more like a book doctor than a beta reader. Gaby examined all the vital aspects of my story and skillfully diagnosed the issues that needed to be addressed to strengthen my book.
“Anyone who is serious about writing knows the importance of a good beta reader. As writers, we all strive to bring out the shine in our stories and take our books to that next level. The invaluable service Gaby provides is pure gold.

Hi Louise, thanks your interest in my beta reading service. Unfortunately I don't have any slots left in May. The earliest available spot right now is early June. Sorry, I hope we get to work together in the future perhaps! Thanks again!

Kevin Lee Akers | 2 comments AUTHORS IN NEED OF BETA SERVICES NEED GABY:

I just want to sing the praises of Gaby and her work. She read through my historical fiction novel The Dunnes of Brittas and made insightful, helpful, intelligent (and kind) remarks throughout all of its 388 pages. The work is a sweeping tale following the Dunne family from 1821 Ireland to the turn-of-the-century San Francisco. Gaby kept me focussed on my characters not letting them get lost in the details. She invests herself completely in her task pointing out flaws, gaps and weak transitions. He final report is the perfect fix-it-ticket! She delivers what she promises and SO, SO much more. After spending years working on something so personal as a novel it is just so gratifying that Gaby takes on the role of a beta reader with as much passion as an author, THANK YOU GABY!

message 18: by Roger (new)

Roger Heath | 4 comments Quite simply, amazing. Beyond my expectations. Really.

Gaby has an undeniable skill in following, and delving into, the complexities of a story, whilst at the same time critiquing it in a thorough and engaging way.

That requires some tough work and concentration.
Very impressive.

Equally impressive is her knack of delivering the hard messages (and I would guess it is not just me that needs them!) in such a way that does not quash the enthusiasm of the author! Hard truths can hit home and be hard to take, but Gaby delivers it in a balanced, emphatic and constructive way. I can now clearly see that I need to tackle pacing, context and explanation, and characterisation, to knock my book into shape.

I learned a lot in a short time.
And for that I am grateful.

I now have detailed analysis, insightful comments, and interesting ideas that will most definitely provide guidance and inspiration as my trilogy develops.

Many thanks, Gaby

Kevin Moran (aninkmover) | 1 comments Gaby is excellent! She went above and beyond my expectations on feedback and suggestions to improve my prose. Her work is in-depth, her communication and response times are fantastic, and I would highly recommend her!

message 20: by Phoebe (new)

Phoebe Ritter | 4 comments I've trusted Gaby to provide feedback on all three of the books in my Daughter of the Zel series and she has never disappointed. I recently received feedback on another WIP and it has been a big help. I highly recommend using her for alpha and beta reading!

message 21: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2 comments This was my first beta-read with Gaby and I am beyond thrilled with the level and quality of her feedback. She was an absolute pleasure to work with, answered all my questions quickly and thoroughly and her feedback and comments and have been invaluable for improving the quality of my manuscript. Would highly recommend and I will definitely be asking Gaby to beta-read for me again in future.

message 22: by Janeal (new)

Janeal Falor | 85 comments Gaby is AMAZING! Seriously, if you're on the fence whether or not to use her services, do it! Your book will be so much better for it.

I've worked with her on several projects now, and she does such a fantastic, thorough job. She has in-depth feedback and suggestions that make my book stronger for them. Not only does she help make my manuscript better with her thoughts and ideas, but I'm learning so much from her about how to be a better author that I hope to continue to implement in the future.

As long as Gaby stays a beta reader, she will always be on my list of beta readers to use. And I hope she never, ever quits because it would be a loss for me, my books, and others who use her service. She brings great insight into the book community and is worth every penny!

message 23: by Koby (new)

Koby | 1 comments Gaby's beta read was extremely thorough and she took great care in reading my manuscript and providing feedback page by page, as well as offering a huge amount of overarching critique. Her comments were honest and incisive and she is all one could ask for in a beta reader and honestly much more than I was ever expecting. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a beta reader!

message 24: by Will (last edited Dec 20, 2020 07:41AM) (new)

Will Jr. | 13 comments It was a pleasure to receive Gaby's critique of my manuscript. She has an impeccable eye for detail, and not only did she have a line-by-line review, but she had a run-down at the end of each chapter, as well as a summary at the end of the manuscript. She holds back no punches and offers as many compliments as critiques. She is worth far more the price than what she asks for in her services. Even with her low price, she breaks down the payment into half-installments, and in this day and age, you can't turn that down. Search no more for other beta readers for your manuscripts. All you need is Gaby Michaelis.

message 25: by J.R. (new)

J.R. Robertson | 1 comments You can't go wrong with a beta read from Gaby! My line editor put me in touch with her, and it was some of the best money I spent on my manuscript. The full critique blew my expectations out of the water - she's extremely thorough and has a knack for zeroing in on key areas for improvement (Sigh. Yes, Gaby, my characters really did need to show more emotion...)

If you need another set of eyeballs on your work and seek honest and impartial feedback, Gaby should be at the top of your list. Just be prepared, because if there's a flaw with your story, characters, or prose, she'll find it. She's now an official part of my writing program.

Sandybikeryahoo.com | 1 comments I am completely blown away by Gaby's beta reading of my manuscript. She provided extensive detailed suggestions throughout the story as well as an over arching report of the book that highlighted what worked, and what needed work. Her feedback is thorough, honest and supportive.

I almost don't want to tell you how good she is because I want there to be free time in her schedule for my next project. I also don't know how she does this deep of a dive so quickly.

Her beta reading service is a definite find.

message 27: by Patrick (new)

Patrick J. | 1 comments Gaby absolutely blew me away with her work. Not only was she extremely punctual, she was able to read my manuscript and write up an 8 page report for me within 3 days!

The report was beyond thorough and I can't wait to work with Gaby again in the future. Seriously can't recommend enough!

message 28: by Jeremy (new)

Jeremy Moore (jeremymmoore) | 1 comments Gaby was a fantastic Beta reader for my new book. I have a printout of all her comments and critiques, and have been going through the information she provided me.

The turnaround time was amazingly quick and got me into my next round of editing sooner than I anticipated.

I look forward to working with her again and will recommend her on any threads/discussions I am involved in.

message 29: by D.C.P. (new)

D.C.P. Fox (dcpfox) | 7 comments I have used Gaby for all three of my novels now, and her help was invaluable in the process of making my books shine. If you want to finish your WIP, you MUST have beta readers, and I have never found a beta reader more tough, encouraging, and thorough than Gaby.

Yes, an editor and a cover are vitally important. But a good beta reader is even more important because you need to write a good story, or your editing and cover won't be worth anything.

Are you indie? Are you trad? Doesn't matter. You need a good beta reader.

Gaby is your key to unlocking the potential that is in you. Hire her. She won't disappoint.

message 30: by VLLee (last edited Mar 03, 2021 12:50AM) (new)

VLLee | 1 comments I found Gaby really helpful, timely and organized in sharing her thoughts in her beta reading feedback and final report. The line by line feedback was really helpful to understand what was going on in the reader's mind. She highlighted several parts of my manuscript that I didn't really know that I should be paying attention to (particularly the plot holes) and that helps in improving my craft as a writer.

Overall, I would recommend getting Gaby for beta reading!

message 31: by BookWorm (new)

BookWorm | 22 comments I would absolutely recommend Gaby if you're looking for fair and constructive feedback on your work. I sent Gaby my manuscript and her beta read went above and beyond, I am going back and editing now based on her feedback and I can say with absolute confidence that my work has drastically improved due to her efforts. She is also always contactable, quick to reply, and helpful in all aspects.

If you're looking for a beta reader, look no further!

message 32: by Bob (new)

Bob Springett | 35 comments I have had Gaby read through five of my books. The first, "Pope Barnabas" is now published and the second, "Bones" is in the process. The other three are still in the queue.

Gaby is very thorough in her work, comprehensive in her coverage of virtually every aspect of what makes a book work. "Pope Barnabas" mentions her in the acknowledgements.

I still use others, mostly on a 'swap-and-read' basis, but Gaby adds a degree of professionalism that fellow-writers rarely match.

Gaby is an amazing Beta Reader! She is professional and efficient. She knows what she is talking about. She has helped me and my book so much! She is honest and also kind. Very thorough, highly recommend. She is worth her weight in gold!

message 34: by Monika (new)

Monika | 1 comments I am so happy I found Gaby's beta reading service! Her comments were just what I needed, and written in a thoughtful, non-judgmental, and detailed way. Really helpful feedback that includes fine and coarse scale concerns, which made me aware of both smaller scene-level and broader story arc issues. Importantly, I felt like I was reading comments from a knowledgeable, respectful friend. Super excited to move forward with Gaby's feedback!

Eric | 5 comments Excellent, professional beta reading service. Efficient turn around time and pleasant to work with. Gaby gives you the ability to take your manuscript to the next level. Highly recommend.

message 36: by John (new)

John | 1 comments I have utilized Gaby's service twice now for both of my manuscripts. She has done excellent work, helping to scrutinize my story and point out logic errors. I would definitely recommend her services, and will be utilizing them with future projects.

message 37: by Kyle (new)

Kyle Baxter (kylebaxter) | 1 comments Gaby is an amazing beta reader. I have used her services for every one of my five books and could not be happier with her work. The feedback is concise and professional and always helpful. She is a pleasure to work with.

Which reminds me, I need to reserve a spot with her for my next book!

message 38: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Blevins | 2 comments Gaby was an absolute pleasure to work with! She gave me detailed, thorough input that will undoubtedly play a crucial role as I rework my manuscript. Considering how much time and effort she put into assessing my manuscript, her work was well worth every penny. I fully recommend her, and I will definitely be reaching out to her with future projects!

message 39: by Keith (new)

Keith Nalumango | 2 comments Gaby wrote: "Hi Wonderful Writers!

I wish I had known Gaby much earlier. Her comments/suggestions on my current manuscript were invaluable. She pointed out substantive issues which, I believe, will enable my book to pass the litmus test for the psychological thriller genre. She was candid and knowledgeable. I strongly recommend her services to anyone who wants a fair comment and do the right thing. I certainly will use her services again soon.

I will be using her again and recommend her service without reservation.

message 42: by Maddox (new)

Maddox Grey | 3 comments I used Gaby's beta reading services for the first time last month and was amazed at the quality and professionalism of the feedback I received. I would highly recommend using Gaby for any of your projects. I will absolutely be using her again for my next book.

message 43: by Arlene (new)

Arlene L. (arlenelwilliams) | 1 comments I really appreciated Gaby's work. She was especially helpful with pacing which can be hard to gauge when you have read your own story a hundred times. I also appreciated her pointing out places where things were working. Writers do need that, as well as the constructive critique, so they know what needs to be kept. It's also nice to have a pat on the back too. I thought Gaby worked hard, kept on schedule, and she is someone I can recommend.

message 44: by NC (last edited Nov 03, 2021 05:36PM) (new)

NC | 1 comments My manuscript I submitted for reading by Gaby was a low fantasy book at 110k words.

Gaby was very professional and offered high quality feedback at a very reasonable price. She was surgical in pinpointing shortcomings, offering well-suited and well-timed suggestions in my manuscript. She also worked very hard to get the feedback back to me earlier than expected as I received a partial request on my query and had to do another pass of the manuscript in expectation of a full request.

I wholeheartedly recommend Gaby for beta reading services, she is worth every cent, and I will be using her again for my next book.

message 45: by Ryan (new)

Ryan Brocklehurst | 1 comments Gaby is beyond incredible. 'Nuff said! Her detailed feedback on my manuscript was phenomenal. Her review and in-depth comments have shaped the story for the better. After Gaby provides a readthrough, you will have a clear idea of what direction(s) to take your story and what it needs to go from good to great. I can't wait to dive back into my manuscript. Book a date with Gaby; your story deserves it!

message 46: by L.H. (new)

L.H. Reid | 1 comments Gaby is professional, pleasant, and a super proficient beta reader. She treats your project like a true partner and delivers feedback that is direct and meaningful.

message 47: by Saana (new)

Saana (sanetski) | 1 comments I worked with Gaby for the first time after my writer friend recommended her--for a reason. Gaby gave me invaluable feedback on my manuscript, pointing out the weak spots and sections that still needed strengthening, whilst still providing encouragement and highlighting my strengths. Her feedback also made me more aware of those areas that I need to focus on in my writing. She is extremely responsive, quick, and thorough with her feedback. I will definitely reach out to her again.

message 48: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Merricks | 5 comments As someone who had never written anything before, I found it daunting to send my manuscript to Gaby to read through, but it's the best thing I could have done. I had written it, but no idea how to format a novel, or to create a voice or anything else that goes into a novel. Gaby was very kind and patient with my inexperienced writing, but was also very honest. She had it back to me very quickly, with detailed notes and a write up at the end. I now have a lot of work to do to get my manuscript to the place that it needs to be, but at least I now know what I need to do. Thanks again Gaby, hope to work with you again in the future,

message 49: by Tanya (new)

Tanya | 1 comments Gaby's review of my novel was very helpful, and mostly pointed out places where what I knew about my characters in my head... didn't quite translate to the page (as well as the other, more common issues, of course). Rewriting so much of it seemed like a daunting challenge at the time, but she was absolutely right. The book is *so* much better now! Thank you!

message 50: by Newton (new)

Newton Webb Gaby did two passes over my novel and was absolutely instrumental in fixing some of the story issues. She ran through it with a critical eye and was able to point out where I was deviating from the A Plot, help me with my female point of view character and offer crucial advice on tightening up the structure.

The book ended up being about 15k longer, but now all the ends are tied up neatly and the story is tightly plot driven with the filler being culled or made more relevant.

I cannot comprehend writing a book without her now and have recommended her to all my writer friends.

Thanks Gaby! You are a total gem.
