Well, I've been keeping track of all my books and my ratings in different categories, and analyzing what I liked about each of them. It seems to help.

It happens (not seldom) that I think I will like a book and end up finding it extremely boring. And the other way around...

It could be just luck but my % of 4 and 5 stars is much higher so far in 2018 than in past years. Of course, I won't know for sure until December.

The other way I've found helpful is finding someone whose taste is similar and reading some of their highly rated books.
