Sally906 | 71 comments BOBBING FOR BOOKS

When I was ten I attended a boarding school in England for a few years and each October Halloween was celebrated and it was such fun - the ‘Big Girls in their final year would throw a party for the rest of the school.

Of course as the school was run by the Church of England we all had to attend church the next day for an All Saints Day service to counteract the pagan rituals from the evening before :)

One activity they did every year was apple bobbing.

Apple bobbing is a traditional Halloween game. The game is played by filling a tub with water and putting apples in the water. Because apples are less dense than water, they float at the surface. We all took turns to kneel down next to the basin and try to catch the apples with our mouths only. The first of us to get an apple out won. But as different apples were in the rest of us were scored according to what Apple we could snaffle. We all got soaked and nearly drowned but boy it was fun.

This year Aussie Readers are going to bob for apples. You can bob for one apple, two apple as or three apples depending on how many tasks you do.

1. Pink Lady - Read 3 books (1 must be an Aussie author)

2. Red Delicious- Read 6 books (2 must be Aussie authors)

3. Granny Smith - Read 9 books (3 must be Aussie authors)

4. Golden Delicious - Read 12 books (4 must be Aussie authors)

DON'T FORGET

1. Our guidelines HERE

2. Please include pictures of the book covers especially when the task requires something to be on the cover - for example if you pick the task that needs a cat or a specific colour on the cover - then we need to see those covers as we don't have time to click on each link to go and check :)

Task List

1. Read a book with a 75% black, orange, white, green, or red cover.

2. Read a book with a vampire, werewolf, witch, zombie, or ghost on the cover.

3. Read a book with a full moon, black cat, pumpkin, candle, or haunted house on the cover.

4. Read a book that has a "treat" on the cover.

5. Read a book whose author's first and last initials are found in HALLOWEEN.

6. Read a book with one of the following words in the title: HAPPY, TRICK, or TREAT.

7. Read a book whose author was born in October, the book was published in October, or the story takes place in October.

8. Read a book whose title starts with a letter in COSTUME.

9. Read a book where the MC attends a Fancy Dress Party or has to wear a costume or disguise.

10. Read a book with a MP genre of horror, mystery, thriller, paranormal, apocalyptic, or dystopia.

11. Read a book where the MC faces their deepest fear.

12. Read a book that takes place in a spooky or eerie setting.
