Go to . On the right-hand side of the page is a box that says True Random Number Generator. Set the minimum to 1 and the maximum to 40. Have the generator give you a number. Then, on GRs, go to Explore. On the right-hand side of the page, there is a list of 40 genres beginning with Art and ending with Young Adult. Starting with Art, count down the first column of genres then the second column, if necessary, until you come to the number given to you by the Random Number Generator. Read a book that has that genre on it's main page.

Alternately, you can click on the genre and read a book from the New Releases, Most Read This Week, or Popular Books sections that come up. These lists change rapidly so if you choose a book from this page, make a note of the date you chose the book. Only those three sections may be used. OPTION A: My grade school was started in 1851 and my first classroom was among the earliest built. Eighteen-inch thick limestone walls kept the rooms relatively cool in the hot Texas climate. The school was operated by an order of nuns that was first founded in Italy.

Read a book set primarily in Italy.

OPTION B: The high school I attended was an all-girls boarding school, although I was a day-student since I lived in the same city. The order of nuns who ran the school was founded in Houston Texas by a French-born bishop.

September is always bittersweet for me. It is my birthday month, but it also signifies the end of summer, which bums me out because I LOVE the beach. This task is designed to celebrate the awesomeness of September. Read a book for one of these three options:

Option #1. September Birthdays: Read a book written by an author who has a September birthday. REQUIRED: If the author's birth month does not appear on his/her GR profile, you must provide a link to where this information was found.

Option #2. 28: My mother and I share the same birthday, September 28th, and she likes to remind my father that I was her ONLY birthday present in 1986. To celebrate this September 28th, which is also my 28th birthday, read a book with both the numbers �2� and �8� in the total number of pages.

Option #3. Neptune Festival: One of my favorite parts of September is the Neptune Festival, which is celebrated in my hometown of Virginia Beach. I love to ride my bike down the boardwalk to hear bands, check out the arts and crafts show, and watch surfing, volleyball, sand soccer, and sandcastle competitions. 20.5 - Bigger is Better - Patricia's Task:A Discovery of Reading

TV is a big part of my professional life. Discovery Communications is a global nonfiction media and entertainment company that provides programming across multiple distribution platforms worldwide. My challenge is inspired by 4 of their U.S. Networks: Discovery Channel, TLC, Animal Planet and Investigation Discovery. Please read one book from one of the following options.

Option 1: Discovery Channel
Read a book with one of the following words in its title or subtitle. Words must match exactly - no variations allowed. Conjunctions and/N' not included.
Shark Week, Deadliest Catch, Fast N' Loud, Naked and Afraid, Gold Rush

Option 2: TLC
Fridays are Bridedays on TLC with hits such as Say Yes to the Dress, Four Weddings and Something Borrowed, Something New. Read a book with a bride on the cover or in which a wedding plays a prominent role in the storyline.

These lists may give you some ideas: Fictional Planners, Books with a Wedding Theme, Brides on the Cover. As always, be careful using GR lists - books on the list won't necessarily work for the task.

Required: State the wedding connection if it's not obvious from the GR description. If you choose the cover option, include the cover in your post.

Option 3: Animal Planet
Read a book with a picture of an animal (including birds or fish) on the cover or which includes the name of an animal (including birds or fish) in the title/subtitle. Real animals only - no mythological or fantasy animals. Neither insects nor humans work for this option.

Required: Include the cover in your post if you are claiming points for the cover picture.

Option 4: Investigation Discovery
Read a true crime novel. The genre must be included on the book's main page on GR. (Sub-genres are okay. i.e. Crime> True Crime)

20.6 - Seasoned Reader - Deana's Task: It all started with a Big Bang!

I don't watch much television (who has time with so many books to read?!) but I do keep up with The Big Bang Theory, which has recently been renewed and will start its 8th season during this season of SRC!

Please choose ONE of the following options:
REQUIRED: State which option you chose.

OPTION 1. Meet the boys.
The show follows four "nerdy" guys as they make their way awkwardly through life and love: Sheldon, Leonard, Howard and Rajesh.
Read a book by an author who has one of these four names as their first or last name. Names must match exactly, no variations or hyphens.

OPTION 2. SCIENCE RULES!
The guys are all college professors with degrees in physics, astronomy or engineering. They also love science fiction shows such as Star Trek, Babylon 5 and Battlestar Galactica. Read any book with the genre "Science" or "Science Fiction" genre on the main page. The genres can be stand-alone or embedded.

OPTION 3. Not just for kids.
Their friend Stuart runs the comic book store where they often while away the hours. They even got the girls interested in comics in one episode :) Read a graphic novel, comic collection or manga.

OPTION 4. Rock-Paper-Scissors-Lizard-Spock
This variation of the common game "Rock, Paper, Scissors" is used by these guys because it lowers the chance of ending in a tie from 1:3 to 1:5. Your book's cover should show one of the following:
An individual rock or stone, a newspaper, a pair of scissors, a lizard, or the Star Trek character "Spock".
REQUIRED: Include the cover in your post and state the item.

REQUIRED FOR ALL OPTIONS: Your book must be at least 250 pages ... these guys are super smart and would scoff at a shorter book!

20.7 - Shorter is Sweeter - Allison Ann's Task: Finally Fall

I work in tourism and my business is seasonal - busy in the summer, quiet in winter. I love my work and I love most of the different people I interact with every single day for 18 hours per day, May to September. However, by the time Labour Day is over and things start to quiet down I am more than ready for the tourists to leave and my quiet little town to empty of people. Soon the deer will again outnumber the humans and my only neighbours will be loons. Ahhhhh!

So tourists, I love you, you pay my bills and keep me in books, but it is time for you to GO HOME.

This will be a one book task.

Read a book with the words "GO" and "HOME" found complete somewhere in the title, subtitle, series title, or author's name. They can be part of a larger word but must be found intact.

You can go simple like Don't Go Home. Or challenge yourself some more with an option like Westward Hearts(Homeward on the Oregon Trail #1) or A House Is a Broken Home by Patron Gold

2o.8 - It's My Birthday - Paul's Task; Your Mission, Should You Choose To Accept It ...

So, I won a birthday task. Yay ! I stayed up all night last night and woke up with "army-face"... that's when you fall asleep at the Risk® board and those hard plastic pieces embed themselves in your cheeks (face-cheeks, that is)...

I went to the Hasbro site to look at the original rules and discovered two Risk® variants in the original rules that I don't ever remember playing. That may be my memory, the fact that rules tend to get lost, or that I never owned what appears to be the first game of Risk® ever made. Those two variants are:

CAPITAL RISK®
SECRET MISSION RISK®

You can go to the site and read up on these two exciting variants if you'd like. But that won't help you for this task. To complete this task, read a book with one of these three words in the title (or sub-title):

CAPITAL (referring to a capital city),
SECRET (something that is hidden), or
MISSION (a task)

Variants of these words (including the word embedded in another) are fine as long as they maintain the meaning above (in parentheses).

Examples that are acceptable include: secretly, secreted, commission, or missionary.

Examples of words that are unacceptable include: capitalize, secretion, admission.

No books with the genres childrens or kids may be used for this task.

Option 1: September � Genre Browsing
This September I will finish all the requirements to become a CPA. The CPA designation is one of the most recognized in business. To celebrate with me, read one of the top “Business� books using goodreads� genre pages. In the Explore dropdown menu, click on “Genres.� On the right column under “Browse�, click on “Business.� Scroll down to the bottom where it says “Popular Business Books� and click “More Popular Business Books…� These are the most popular books shelved as “Business.� Read one of the books from the first page of the list.

Option 2: October � Award Winners
Halloween is my favorite holiday—I even take time off work around Halloween so I can participate in all of the festivities. Best of all is reading scary books! The Bram Stoker Award is a recognition presented by the Horror Writers Association for superior achievement in horror writing. The game RISK is the theme of this challenge. The object of the game is to occupy every territory on the board and eliminate the other armies. For this task choose two of the following options relating to the game and read one book for each.

A - Risk is a STRATEGY board game. Read a book by an author whose initials can be found in the word STRATEGY. Middle initials can be ignored. Letters can be used only as many times as they appear in STRATEGY.

B - Read a fiction/non-fiction book with the genre War on its main page. Embedded genres are fine.

C - Read a book with a weapon on the cover. REQUIRED: If you choose this option, you must include the cover in your post.

25.3 - Andy P's Task: The Power of Three

For this task you are to read two books. No books with a main page genre of "childrens" or "kids" may be used for this task.

REQUIRED: In your post, state the options you chose.

Option 1. For this option you must choose a book written by a single author. No co-authors, multiple authors, or editors of anthologies.
The book should be written by an author who uses his or her full name, first, middle, and last.
Examples: Mary Higgins Clarkor John Dickson Carr. (Carr also writes under the name Carter Dickson, but books using this pseudonym will NOT work for this option). Also, initials will not work - for example, S.J. Bolton will NOT work

Option 2. Choose a book with a three word title. Two restrictions apply: the first word of the title may NOT be "The" or "A" AND the book may NOT have a subtitle.
Examples: Garden of Stones or Innocent as Sin will work. The Perfect Husband or A Fugitive Truth will NOT work.

Option 3. Choose a book originally published in a year ending in a three. Any book published in 1993, 2003 etc will work.

Option 4. Choose any book that is over 333 pages.
NOTE: ebooks without print versions cannot be used for tasks requiring a specific number of pages. If you read an ebook or audiobook use the page count for the mass market paperback if one exists. If there is no mass market paperback edition, use the paperback edition and if no paperback is available use the hardcover edition.

Option 5. Choose a book that is the third in a series as indicated on the book's GR home page

Option 6. Choose a book that is the third from the most recently published book in that series. Ergo, if the most recent book in a series is #8, you would read #5 in the series.

For options 5 and 6, you should only count whole numbers in a series - "in between" books such as 3.5 don't count.

25.4. Peebee’s Task: Opposites Attract

Most readers have their favorites when they read, whether it is certain authors, where books are set, or a preference for either fiction or non-fiction. One thing I enjoy about the SRC is the chance to make some of my favorite preferences fit into the Challenge, while at the same time being occasionally forced to read something that I wouldn’t select otherwise in order to satisfy other tasks.

For this task, the following continent pairs will be used: North America/South America; Asia/Africa; and Europe/Australia (Oceania); no fictional lands are allowed or books set in the future beyond the present time. If you are not certain about your preferences to be identified below, please determine them using the books you read in the Summer 2014 SRC, or if you didn’t participate, identify your preferences based upon the last 20 books you listed in your "read" list on Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ. Or just use your best guess....

Read two books, selected from two of these three options:

Option 1: Your Favorites

For this book, select a book that is a) set in the continent in which you were born and/or currently live (your choice if you now live in a continent that is different than the one in which you were born); b) is the gender of the author you most frequently read; and c) is of the type (fiction or non-fiction) you most commonly read.

For example, I live in the US and read a lot of chick lit/women’s fiction, so my “favorite� selection would be a fictional book written by a female author set in North America.

Option 2: Opposites Attract

For this book, you will be selecting a book that is the complete opposite of the first one. a) The opposite continent, according to the pairs established above; b) the opposite gender for the author; and c) the opposite type (fiction or non-fiction).

For example, based upon my first selection (North America/female author/fiction), my second book would be a non-fiction book set in South America written by a male author.

Required: Please state the options you selected when you post; they must be the opposite of the ones selected in Option 1.

Option 3: Wild Card

Want to select a book that’s even more an alternative than option 2? Select one of the following choices: a) A book set, in whole or in part, in Antarctica; b) a book written by a transgender author or with a transgender character; or c) the opposite of your other choice, according to these pairings: fiction: the opposite is biography, autobiography, memoir; nonfiction: the opposite is science fiction or fantasy. For this task, only one of the three criteria must be matched (although if you find the memoir of a transgender person visiting Antarctica, please do share it with us in the help thread!)

Required: Please state the option you selected when you post; if you select "c", the genre (as listed on the book’s main page) must be determined by the pairing specified for the type (fiction or non-fiction) of book you used in Option 1 or 2. For this task, read 2 books, each from a different option.

2. Read a book set in Idaho or about the state of Idaho.

3. Most of my classes were held in the College of Business. Read a book with the genre Business on its main page.

4. I was introduced to the wonderful world of science fiction and fantasy by a roommate. Read a book with the genre Science Fiction or Fantasy on its main page.

5. Since your college years are about exploring new options, read a book of your choice that is new to you. The author does not need to be new to you. Required: State that the book is new to you in your post.

25.6 - Mstan's task: This is Home, Truly

In about a week's time, I'll be packing up and leaving my home, Singapore. I'll be doing my Master's programme in the US for about a year!

This is the second time I'm leaving for the States for a prolonged period of time for my studies. The last time was more than 10 years ago, and I think I was raring to leave at that time, as I was getting rather restless at home (also, I was a teenager then). Things are slightly different now... Although I am excited, I also know I will be quite homesick, at least at first.

To remind myself of home, this task is designed with Singapore in mind.

Choose any two options below. You have to do two different options.

REQUIRED: In your post, state the options you chose.

Option 1 - It will be Singapore's 50th birthday in 2015 (yes we are young!). Read a book with 5 and 0 in its total page count.

Option 2 - Singapore is a tropical city/country. Read a book about a tropical country or set in a tropical country, as defined on .

Option 3 - This may not be too widely known a fact as Singapore's very urban - we're also known as a Garden City! We recently put in a submission to have the Singapore Botanic Gardens designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as well. Read a book with the letters 'G', 'A', 'R', 'D', 'E', 'N' found in the title and subtitle.

Option 4 - We're one of the smallest countries in the world (192nd on ). Read a book with something small (and inanimate - i.e. no living creatures allowed) on the cover - defined as something that can fit completely in the palm of one hand. Required: Please include the cover in your post and specify the "something small."
Examples:

Option 5 - English is our first language - all subjects (except Mother Tongue Languages) are taught in English in school. This is partially due to the fact that we were a British colony for more than a hundred years, during Britain's 'imperial century'. Read a book that was first published during that period, 1815-1914. (We also chose English as our first language because it was the pragmatic choice).

Option 6 - Singaporeans love food. A non-Singaporean friend once observed that we are the only people he's known of, who talk about past and future meals when we are eating our present meal. Read a book with 'food' or 'food and drink' on the genre list on the book's main page.

25.7 - Lindsey IL's Task: Tribute to My Aunt Jane

Sadly, one of favorite aunts passed away from cancer during the last week of the summer challenge. By some miracle, I was still able to finish the challenge at the very last minute even though the week was filled with sadness and spending a lot of time with family for the funeral and also my dad's birthday. I figured dedicating a task to her would be a nice way to honor her, since I never really got to tell her what a positive and enjoyable part of my life she was each time I had the chance to see her through the years.

Please read one book from two different options below. REQUIRED: Indicate in your post the options you chose.

1) Read a book where "Jane" is found intact anywhere in the title/subtitle, author's name, or series title.

2) Jane was first and foremost a mother. She had three sons and was always very involved in their lives, cheering them on through everything and celebrating all their accomplishments until the very end. Two months before she passed she took her youngest son on a spontaneous trip to New York City as a college graduation present for him. She also loved her dog children.

Read a book where a main character is a mother of a son. Or read a book with a dog on the cover.

3) Jane was also a beloved wife to my dad's brother. They met in college through being members of the same service fraternity/organization, and they were later married for 37 years.

Read a book first published in 1975 (when their first date was) or 1977 (when they got married).

4) Unlike me, Jane loved DisneyWorld :) She and the family went there almost too many times to count. I was very happy she got to celebrate her final birthday there this summer with husband, sons, and wonderful new daughter-in-law.

Read a book that has Fairy Tales as a main page genre.

5) When I was little, I was always in awe of the treats Aunt Jane would bring to family gatherings, most notably really rich birthday/celebration cakes from a local (south suburban Chicago) bakery or food from local Italian restaurants.

Read a book with cake on the cover or a FICTION book with "Food" or "Food and Drink" as a main page genre.

6) Jane had a Facebook account that she was just learning to really make use of. I recently scrolled back through everything she ever posted, and accompanying a link to a political speech were these words from her, "Love it, says what I feel so deeply inside. A sincere expression of true empathy for all people." I think those words really show her heart. It was obvious to me she loved her family and many friends, but she had a love for humanity as well.

Read a NONFICTION book with "peace" "love" "empathy" or "compassion" found anywhere in the title/subtitle. Variations of these words will be accepted if the original meaning is preserved.

c)Asana- The physical postures develop the strength and stamina for meditation; align the body; encourage flexibility and vitality; and cultivate balance physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. 30.3. Delicious Dee's Task: Seven Summits

I’ll admit that I’ve never played Risk, so when I was looking for task ideas I had a bit of reading to do. But I noticed that mountain ranges play a strategic role in the game, which got me thinking about the different ranges in the world and random factoids about them. The Seven Summits are the highest mountains on each of the 7 continents and summiting all 7 of them is regarded as a mountaineering challenge.

For this task, you will read TWO books to be determined by rolling . If you roll doubles, roll again until you roll two different numbers. REQUIRED: In your post, state the numbers you rolled. And because mountain climbing is a huge risk, take one with me, both books must be by authors who are new to you in the Fall 2014 challenge. You may not use the same author twice for this task.

Books with the genre childrens or kids on the main page may not be used for this task.

Option 1
The first person to complete the Seven Summits was Richard Bass in April 1985. Read a book that was first published in 1985

Option 2
In 1992, Junko Tabei was the first woman to complete the Seven Summits (she was also the first woman to reach the summit of Mount Everest). Read a book by a Japanese author or set in Japan (the author must have either been born in Japan, or if you pick setting, at least 50% of the book needs to be set in Japan

Option 3
In 1992, Susan Ershler and her husband became the first married couple to complete the challenge. Read a book that was written by 2 people. The book must be a single work, not a collection of stories. Examples: Ilona Andrews � husband/wife writing team; Jefferson Bass. The writers may be two writers listed individually, or writing under one pen name, but both authors must be new to you.

Option 4
Between May 2006 and December 2011, multiple individuals between the age of 15 and 29 completed the challenge. Read a book that was published when its author was between the ages of 15 and 29.
Required: Provide the author's age when the book was published - if GR does not have the author's birthday, provide external verification.

In the game of Risk each of the continents are a different color. Using the colors below and a few other rules can you conquer three continents and rule the world?

First roll three dice - . If you roll doubles or triples, keep rolling until you get 3 different numbers. Then using the pairings below select the books you will read for this challenge:

1. GREEN - ASIA
2. BLUE - EUROPE
3. YELLOW - NORTH AMERICA
4. ORANGE - AFRICA

THE RULES OF THE GAME

1. The books that you read must be set on the continents (at least 50%) that correspond to your die rolls. This must be evident on the book's home page (description or setting) or verifiable by an outside source. If by an outside source, you must provide a link to the source.

To determine which countries are on which continents, we will use

2. The cover of the book must have something on it that corresponds to the continent's color pairing. For example (Asia and a green background), (Europe and blue hat and coat).
