Welcome to Devour Your TBR!

The purpose of this group is very simple: getting through our giant pile of unread books by using monthly challenges.

The idea for this group first started about a year after Kathy started hosting monthly reading challenges on her book blog, . It was only a matter of time for a ŷ-group to be added in the mix so here we are!

Favorite genres: YA Contemporary and YA Fantasy
Favorite authors: Sarah J. Maas, Holly Black, Becky Albertalli, C.E. Clayton, Jessica Park, Tomi Adeyemi, C.C. Hunter

Apart from reading and , I love baking with a passion, although I haven't really done much of it lately. Food-wise, I'm ridiculously addicted to spaghetti and.. this year I also discovered my love for Indian Butter Chicken Cury with garlic naan. Sooooo good!
I live with my boyfriend, who isn't a book worm at all. He only reads when we're on holiday and doesn't even finish the books he starts.
Apart from my boyfriend, there'll be an addition to our little family in the near future since I'm pregnant and due in February. We're both looking forward to it so much but I'm kind of scared as well? Guess that's absolutely normal, haha! I can't wait to meet the little guy though.
We don't have any pets, but I'd like to have a dog one day. We're still doubting whether it'll be a Labrador, or maybe a Shiba Inu or.. well.. Who knows, right?

Favorite authors: Sarah J. Maas, V.E. Schwab/Victoria Schwab, Maggie Stiefvater, Joe Hill

Let's see, a little about myself... well, I've been a reader literally as long as I can remember, and have always loved talking to people about books, so joining the book community and even becoming a reviewer felt like the natural progression for me. I'm pretty active online so you can usually find me around, but if I'm not reading or blogging or chatting, I'll typically be chasing around a wild two-year-old, listening to music, or playing video games.

Noura Khalid (theperksofbeingnoura) (theperksofbeingnoura) Really excited to join this as much as I can 😊 My name is Noura and I'm a book blogger, reviewer and bookstagrammers from Saudi Arabia. My favorite authors are Cassandra Clare, Holly Black, Sarah J. Maas, Akemi Dawn Bowman and V.E. Schwab. Favorite genre is mostly YA fantasy. I love to read, blog, diy and journal. I'm currently doing my bachelors in Psychology. And sadly I don't have any pets though I'd love to have one!

Kal ★ Reader Voracious (kalventure) | 1 comments Friends this is incredible and I love this idea so much, and both of you!

I'm Kaleena, a book blogger in northern California! I'm a Capricorn and in my mid-thirties and really enjoy reading science fiction, fantasy, speculative fiction, horror, and mystery & thriller with the occasional historical fiction read! My favorite authors are Kurt Vonnegut, Jonathan Janz, Emily Suvada, and Victoria Schwab.

Other than reading & book blogging, I enjoy being in the outdoors: hiking, camping, adventuring. I also love to travel and try to do a big trip somewhere international every other year.

I have my bachelor's degree in religious studies (emphasis was on South Asian religion & theory/philosophy of religion) with minors in human rights and anthropology. I work in philanthropic fundraising for a research university, raising money for student support and research.

I have a cat named Devi, my little cuddlebug and soul mate.

Becca (astoldbybex) | 15 comments Hi friends! Can I just start this off by saying that I'm SO happy y'all created this group? I'm always so nervous to join groups that have been around for awhile, but since this one is newer + there are so many familiar faces, I feel pretty much at home!

Anywho, I'm Becca! I really enjoy reading horror & I'll try just about anything aimed at Young Adults. I wouldn't say that I have a favorite author, but there are a few that at this point I'll pick up anything they write: Emily Suvada, Kealan Patrick Burke, Mackenzi Lee being a few.

When I'm not reading, I am watching horror films, hanging out with my cat, plotting out new stories that probably won't find a home on paper, and playing video games. I'm BIG into playing video games, guys. It's honestly one of my main loves. If anyone ever wants to talk video games, please throw a DM at me.

I do have my Bachelor's in Psychology -- but have yet to do anything with it. I'm currently working as a custodian, until I can figure out what I really want to do with my life (or make millions off a book, whichever comes first).

I have a lot of cats living with me. They just keep moving in, it's wild. But they are my heart & I have no idea what I'd do without them.

I'm so excited to get to know you all & complete some challenges!!

message 5: by Angela (new)

Angela Gibson I have a TBR of physical books and of ebooks that is insurmountable, and it's really fortunate that you formed this group just at the time I began my search as to how to conquer my overwhelming TBR!

message 6: by Angela (new)

Angela Gibson I'm Angela, 59, and a Virgo. Most of my life I've lived in Minneapolis, but I'm currently living in Kansas City and am still adjusting.

So, yes, I'm possibly going to be your finest aged member. Is it okay that I want to described myself more as a fine wine than as a crone? Also, it's perfectly okay to be a crone and I wear that name as a badge of honor, including being a member of Crones of Anarchy on Facebook.

Other personal items: My husband and I have been married for 38 years. Please allow me a moment for a freakout while I contemplate how insane that is for me. Or for anyone really. We have two daughters who are both off adulting. Our dog owns us and considers us his servants. His name is Gus, and he's a West Highland Terrier. I used to work in insurance and risk management (snore) until life cut me off at the knees for a bit and I took early retirement when I was 55. I'm still working on regrouping.

Hobbies: History, genealogy, smashing misogyny and racism.

Favorite genres: Mystery, memoir, science fiction, and YA.

Favorite authors: Marissa Meyer, Sue Grafton, Becky Chambers, David Sedaris.

Now I'm off to view the January challenge and put together a list of TBR owned books to read.

Hello everyone! I'm so happy to see all of you here! <3

message 8: by Becky (new)

Becky Boudreau (coffeecocktailsandbooks) | 2 comments Hi Everyone!

My name is Becky! I'm a 24 year old bookworm currently residing in snowy Minnesota (USA). I'm also a virgo, dog lover, and bookworm!

What genres do you prefer reading?

YA fantasy and mystery/thriller are currently my favorite genres, though I read a little bit of everything.

Do you have a favorite author?

My current favorite authors are Jay Kristoff, Seanan McGuire, Laini Taylor, Ashley Herring Blake, Rick Riordan, and Riley Sager. These authors have written multiple books I love and are easily my current auto-buy authors!

I also love how they're able to create such unique works and hard hitting stories.

What are your hobbies?

My hobbies include theater, diy crafts (though I'm not very good), playing with my puppies, and a bit of mediocre carpool karaoke.

Also, blogging, reading, and creating bookstagram posts/booktube videos definitely count as hobbies too!

Do you go to school? Work?

I just finished school and I'm currently looking for a job (though my ego is depleting faster than the interview offers come in). Here's to hopping I find a great match in 2019!

Do you have any pets?

Image may contain: dog

I have two feisty puppies, Logan and Nitro! They just turned four months old on December 1st.

✨fٳ✨tܲ✨p澱ܲ✨ Dead Account; Not Coming Back (faithm99) I love fantasy above all others, and tend to read YA fantasy more than adult, but as I'm getting older (I turn 20 in January), I find myself leaning towards adult (you know it's all over when you agree with the parents in a YA book). Science fiction is my second favorite, and I occasionally will read some contempory, but rarely and usually only if there are some thriller aspects to it.

My favorite authors include Isaac Marion, Victoria (V.E.) Schwab, Cassandra Clare, Rick Riordan, J.K. Rowling.

I make beaded jewelry, draw, and I'm currently working on two writing projects (both YA: one dark fantasy, one science fiction romance).

I have two cats that hate each other and one lizard who's neutral to the conflict. My cats are named Sophie and Kiara and the lizard's full name is General Lucius Maximus Draco, but I just call him Luc (pronounced like "Loosh")

Aah, I'm so happy to see all of you here! :D Welcome!!

@ Noura
So many amazing authors in your list! I'm ridiculously excited to get my hands on Summer Bird Blue the moment it's released, haha. Absolutely loved Starfish!

@Kaleena
Fancy seeing you here! :P You should also totally mention you're pro at making amazing book blog templates. Just saying.

@Becca
I totally feel you. I rarely become active in other groups because they're usually so huge already and everybody seems to know each other. I keep feeling like the odd one out. Not to mention lost in the huge amount of topics / posts, haha. I hope you'll find your spot in Devour Your TBR! :)

@Angela
Fine wines are more than welcome here! I love the name of your dog, but that's probably because my boyfriend's called Gust, which is close to being the same.
Hope you like our challenges!

@Alexa
You're welcome! I knew I had written your name down for a reason, just took me a while to figure out the exact one, haha. I'll be keeping an eye on those TBR's of yours to get myself some more LGBTQIA+ recs!

@Becky
YAY! But you can keep the snow with you - just saying. I don't need that right now, haha. Carpool karaoke! Those always remind me of hilarious YouTube videos.. Can't stop watching them once I get started.. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for your job hunt. <3

@Faith
I went to adult reads a bit more as well when I was 20, but the last two years I've been back in YA? I do have my adult romance moods though - December simply is the perfect time for those! Love the name of your lizard, haha!

Annemieke / A Dance with Books (adancewithbooks) Hiiii~ Well this is great because I realized I always saw too late when Kathy did these to join in and had already penciled in a lot of things. So now I can just check in advance and have reminders here. :D

I am a big fantasy reader but I would like to branch out a bit more into sci-fi. Favorite authors include Becky Chambers, Jonathan Stroud, Terry Pratchett, Rick Riordan.

At the moment I am a stay at home mom to a very energetic two year old so my days revolve around him pretty much.

message 12: by Eleanor (new)

Eleanor Hello! My name is Eleanor and I'm really excited to be part of this group. My favourite genre is definitely fantasy, YA or adult, but I am really open to reading almost anything. I also really like historical fiction.

My favourite authors include Laini Taylor, Leigh Bardugo, Sarah J Maas and Philippa Gregory.

My hobbies include reading, drawing, attempting to write, musical theatre and piano. I also do bookstagram, although I am not the greatest at posting consistently!

I have a very scruffy dog, an angry cat and two rabbits. The dog loves the cat ( who hates her ) and wants to eat the rabbits. Its an odd relationship.

Favorite authors: Jay Kristoff, Amie Kaufman, Madeline Miller, Rick Riordan, Mackenzi Lee, Neil Gaiman, JK Rowling, Seanan McGuire, Stieg Larsson, Amanda Hocking... and the list is always growing!

I’m so happy to be part of this group, Thank you! This is going to be so much fun. =) The timing is impeccable considering I finally added my kindle library backlog tbr to goodreads (and my apologies to anyone who received those updates I couldn’t stop in time)!

Oh gosh, about me? Okay I like lists, so here we go:
I’ve always been a reader, but I’ve only recently considered myself a booknerd.
I have autoimmune myasthenia gravis, so I rely heavily on my kindle and audiobooks when I can’t read physical books. Although I still go smell and hug them.
I’m studying chemistry! I have a background in finance and entrepreneurial management. Also, I graduated with an associate’s degree when I was 18. Better late than never to figure out what I want to be when I grow up, right? lol
My favorite person in the whole world lives in Germany now with her fiancé and toddler. We met in Australia in 2009 and haven’t looked back.
I have an older sister in Arizona, so I go there with every excuse I can muster.
I’ve only had a goldfish for a pet and my mom’s fish ate it. Instead, I grew up with kitties at my grandparents farm and I used to be terrified of dogs because I was a smol child (I was only supposed to be 51 but I have shockingly exceeded that by half a foot). Don’t worry I now love dogs too!
I’m an herbal tea drinker obsessed with local honey.
Flowers make me ridiculously happy for no reason. They’re always smiling :):):)

favorite author: there’s so many great authors there, and I’m always trying to find the new ones in whose reading I’ll enjoy
hobbies: I don’t know if reading could be counted as hobby or is simply a way of life 🤷‍♀ Apart from that, I used to have a bookstagram account (I recognize some of you from there, handle was - @kaliopi_ann), but I had to deactivate it because of Uni and now internship that takes almost all of my free time... I also generally love photography, theaters, long walks, flowers, coffee and traveling
school/work: I recently got my magister degree in Pharmacy, started my obligatory 6-months-internship in November in order to get a license
pets: sadly, not anymore

Candyce & Isabelle (thebookdutchesses) | 2 comments Hi everyone!
Super excited about this group, I really need to tackle my tbr this coming year!

I’m Isabelle, 28 years old and from the Netherlands. I did a masters degree in London where I met one of my best friends. She from
Minnesota so I love seeing quite some Minnesotans here! It’s one of my favorite places on earth <3

My favorite genre is fantasy (YA) and mystery/thriller. But I’ll pick up almost anything.
Some of my favorite authors are J.K. Rowling, Leigh Bardugo, VE Schwab, Sarah J Maas, Marissa Meyer, Maggie Stiefvater, just to name a few.

I have a blog with a friend of mine so that’s definitely a hobby of mine. I also love horse riding and I own my own horse. I spent a lot of time at the stables and audiobooks have helped me keeping up my reading! I also love traveling and try to do it as much as possible.

I just started a private practice for child psychology and sport psychology and am still finishing my post-masters degree in sport psychology (kinda like a doctorate). I also teach horse riding to kids

I think that’s me in a nutshell! Can’t wait to participate and talk books with you all!

Amy (nonfictionfeminist) | 14 comments Hello friends! I'm Amy, 25, from central Montana in the US. I majored in Psychology with a double minor in Women's and Gender Studies and Sociology.

My least-favorite genres are YA and fantasy. YA tends to be far too young a reading level for me, and I've just always struggled with fantasy and getting into new worlds with new rules.

My favorite authors are Jeffrey Eugenides, Gillian Flynn, Ian McEwan, and Jandy Nelson. I spend my downtime with adult coloring books, Netflix, and cuddling up to the nearest mammal. I also love taking my kitties (one of whom is tripedal) for walks. I work at a treatment center for youth with emotional disturbances.

message 19: by Dannii (last edited Dec 05, 2018 12:56AM) (new)

Dannii Elle (danniiellereads) Hi everyone :) My name is Dannii and I'm from Wales. I'm 28 years old and am a PA for a kickboxing academy as well as a struggling writer. Asides from reading my other passion is my writing: it's my dream to become a published author. I also love bookstagramming... or really any other excuse to talk about books online. I have an undergrad degree in English Studies and TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) and a Masters in English Literature.

The absolute love of my life is my dog Gordo. He is a lab-cross-staffy and is the ultimate reading companion as his favourite thing to do is laze on the sofa and cuddle. My other love is my boyfriend. We've been together 10 years, despite him not being much of reader!

My preferred genres are high fantasy (which I write in) and the female Gothic, but I will read almost anything and everything else with the exception of romance, which isn't really my jam (no disrespect to the romance lovers!). I will also read in any age range - MG, YA, adult - and adore classics, especially from the Victorian era! I will always chose a book that has the potential to make me cry over one that will make me laugh.

My all-time favourite book is Wuthering Heights. I attempt to reread it every year and I fall more and more in love with it, every time.

Some other of my favourites are:
- Romeo and Juliet
- Lolita
- Alice in Wonderland
- The Bell Jar
- Rebecca
- A Ladder to the Sky
- Home Fire
- The Vegetarian
- The Ocean at the End of the Lane
- If We Were Villains
- Misery
- Girls on Fire
- The Night Circus
- The Name of the Wind
- Game of Thrones
- The Poppy War
- The Tiger's Daughter
- Nevernight
- Strange the Dreamer
- Six of Crows
- ACOWAR
- The Raven Boys
- The Magic Faraway Tree

My favorite authors are Rick Riordan, Rainbow Rowell, Benjamin Alire Sáenz and Marissa Meyer. But I have a lot of their books to catch up on.
Besides reading I love watching some netflix or going outside and enjoy the beauty of nature. I also love to learn about new things.
I'm currently not working, but I am learning french atm.
And I have 4 cats. I know that's a lot, but 2 of them came from an old lady who couldn't take care of them any more.

Maile (maybeee_m) | 13 comments Hi everyone! I’m new, but I came across this group from
someone I’m friends with! AND to minimize my TBR because I have a lot of books on it. Hopefully I’ll become friends with the members here! That’s what I love about ŷ; you can meet people who love reading just as much as you do!
Well, my name is Maile is pronounced like “Miley and I’m 18 years old from Arizona, but I’m planning on moving during the holidays to Las Vegas so wish me luck!

My favorite genre is pretty much all YA. I have a lot of favorite authors but I love Marissa Meyers, Stephanie Garber, Holly Black, Victoria Aveyard, Marie Lu and soooooo many more!

I love reading (Duh!), but when I’m not I’m listening to music. I really like Kpop so if you’re into that let’s talk! But mainly I love photography. It’s my other love!

I graduated May 2018 and am on a gap year! I plan to go to ASU (Arizona) in the fall next year. I’m planning on getting a job after I move. Hopefully at Barnes and Noble but I’ll take what I can of course.

I do have a dog! I'm moving soon, so I'll have to leave him here. I'll miss him but I will FaceTime him often!

Thanks for having me! Hope we all accomplish our reading goals!!

Shannara (httpwwwshannarareads2com) | 4 comments Hello all!! Thanks for inviting me to the group Kathy!! My name is Shannara and I’ll be 35 later this month.

I love to read just about any type of book, but I love YA the most.

I don’t think I could pick a favorite author as I love so many!! But I do tend to go back to Neil Gaiman, Stephen King, and Dean Koontz.

Besides reading, I like to write and crochet, but I don’t have time for more than one hobby (I chose reading lol) because of my toddler and two month old. My husband isn’t much into reading books so ŷ has been awesome for getting to talk about bookish things!!

I have a degree in English, but I work in insurance. *shrugs*

I currently have one dog Logan, but my husband got me a Mal-Shi puppy for Christmas!!! We haven’t named her yet, but I can’t wait to meet her!!

Seriously excited to be a part of this group!!!

kay! ☾ (kaysmagiclibrary) | 3 comments Hello! My name is Kayla and I'm turning 21 at the end of the month. My TBR is outrageous and I desperately need help 😂 I'm in the process of trying to set a book blog up and actually stick to it.

My favorite genres are YA contemporary, romance, and fantasy. Like most people I have a ton of favorite authors but the ones I can think of at the top of my head is Becky Albertalli, Madeline Miller, Maggie Stiefvater, and Leigh Bardugo.

When I'm not reading for fun I usually have my nose stuck in a textbook. I'm currently working on my B.A. in Forensic Psychology which is enough to keep me occupied 😂 however, I still somehow manage to fit in hours of documentaries and Netflix binges (mainly true crime). Anyways, im excited for this group and hopefully it helps me get rid of massive TBR :)

This year I tried to stick to an unread shelf project but failed in an epic way. Maybe this group will help! :)

Hello! Thanks for inviting me to this group. My name is Claudia, from a lovely country by the name of Ecuador. I just graduated from University in something completely unrelated to reading (Environmental Science). I'm also about to move countries so Oof am I stressed?

I would say reading is my main hobby but I also love browsing for cool music, watching (re-watching) TV shows, and experimenting with food (not as risky as it sounds). If we're talking genres I'm quite flexible but right now I'm mostly into middle-grade fiction, general fantasy, and picture books (I forgot to mention I'm an art enthusiast as I don't actually produce any art myself).
I think right now my favorite authors include Katherine Rundell, Victoria Schwab, and Brandon Sanderson (I know, pretty mainstream but what can I say? the heart wants what it wants.)
As for the last question, in reality, I don't own any pets but in my mind, I have at least two chickens and one cat.

Please feel free to send me messages if you want to talk about anything you find interesting. I love learning new things.

Meaghan | 12 comments Hi!!! This group is perfect for me right now! I’m needing to eliminate the massive pile of books that are on my perpetual TBR list. Currently swapping out the read for the unread on my bookcases.

Okay, details:

I’m Meaghan, turning 29 in a couple of weeks. I have a huge variety of authors that I like and a wide variety of genres that I’ll read. I’m from Southwestern Ontario (Canada). I have 2 dogs and love them to bits.

Sarah A-F (sarahlopod) | 22 comments Copying your formats because I think they look nice and are helpful. :)

General info: Sarah - 26 - Massachusetts, USA - Pisces Sun/Moon, Libra Rising
Find me: - (Links to my bookstagram and facebook are on every blog post, but I'm not as active there!)
Favorite genres: YA & Adult: SF/F, Contemporary, Horror

I've been in an awful slump lately due to some physical health issues that have been making it difficult to focus/stay awake, but besides reading I like listening to podcasts and playing video games (PC & Nintendo Switch)! I work an administrative job in a hospital. We have two cats at my mom's house, but I currently live in an apartment with three other roommates. One of my roommates has a cat named Cake and my sister (who happens to be another one of my roommates) has a cat named Vegas who is a perfect snuggly boy. I've been known to post a pic or two of him on twitter. :)

In 2019 I'd really like to focus on tackling my backlist TBR, particularly my physical TBR!

Grace, Queen of Crows and Tomes | 2 comments Hello everyone! My name is Grace and I mostly read anything and everything YA, though I lean more towards the fantasy and paranormal in that genre. I have a lot of authors that I really like and want to read more stuff from, but only two authors claim that favorite spot: Cassandra Clare and Rick Riordan! My hobbies include researching mythology, playing basketball, playing video games, and writing. I am currently enrolled in university, I'm a junior English major with a concentration on Creative Writing. And, sadly, no jobs or pets, but I really want a dog, preferably a malamute! I just think they are so floofy and cute! I'm really looking forward to tackling my giant TBR pile!

C.E. Clayton (chelscey) | 38 comments Greetings bibliophiles! (And hi, Kathy! You always make me blush with your kindness!) So here's the skinny on me, and I will say I'm not a terribly fast reader, I'm reading 3 books at once and kind of hate it? 2 seems to be my max comfort... damn you ŷ book goal! Anyway, happy to be here! Let's devour this TBR!

What genres do you prefer reading? Fantasy, YA, Detective Thrillers, Sci-Fi
Do you have a favorite author? Susan Ee, V.E. Schwab, Leigh Bardugo, Anne McCaffery, honestly this list changes all the time...
What are your hobbies? Exploring (I have intense cabin fever if I stay inside more than 6 hrs a day), I'd say writing but that's also kind of my job, same with reading lol, occasional jewelry making, and gardening
Do you go to school? Work? I create elaborate worlds and occasionally kill people - I'm a full time writer, in other words.
Do you have any pets? I do! I have 2 extremely large and fluffy rescue cats, and one rescue dog who is practically glued to my side. I love those fluffy butts so much!

Francesca Calarco | 8 comments Hi everyone, I'm Francesca. I am 29 and move about once a year, so I have more library cards than most.

My general outlook on books is if you look hard enough you will find something great in any genre, though I mostly read sci-fi, fantasy, classics, and history/nonfiction. My favorite authors are Octavia Butler, Haruki Murakami, and Kurt Vonnegut.

Aside from reading, I love swimming, biking, cooking, supporting my local drag queens, and generally learning new things. I have a Master's degree in Archaeological Heritage and work different contracts related to the field, so I'm like a professional nerd. If I were more stationary I'd have soooo many pets.

Aside of reading, I love photography, traveling and learning languages (right now my focus is with french and introducing german little by little)

Fafa's Book Corner (fafasbookcorner) Hi all! My name is Fatima. Feel free to call me Fafa!

I am so happy to be in this group! There are so many books on my shelf and phone that I need to get to.

Hmm...If I had to chose a favourite author I'd chose Sarah Beth Durst. I may have more, but this is the first name to come to mind.

I enjoy a variety of genres! I only avoid thrillers and horror because I'm a chicken. I'm okay with some horror and thriller aspects. However this is very rare. Also I don't care for memoirs. I definitely prefer fiction.

Looking forward to reading with you all!
