Do you have a book you want to read, but don't want to go it alone? Think it would be more fun to read with someone else? Then find yourself a buddy here.

To request a buddy read, make a comment in this thread stating the name of the book, the author, and the start date (if you have a preference).
We'll create a thread as soon as there is any interest in a buddy read.

For more information about what a "Buddy Read" is and how it works, CLICK HERE.

Note: If you want to join a future buddy read but are afraid that you may forget about it, let us know and we'll PM you a reminder a day or two before it is scheduled to start.

A list of all our past and present BOM and BR threads are listed on updated approx. weekly

(Click on the title of the book to get to the discussion)

Amanda (daughterofoak) | 3473 comments My mom and I are going to be reading Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky sometime around November 10th or 12th. Anyone else up for it?

I'm about to start
Code Name Verity (Code Name Verity, #1) by Elizabeth Wein
which I got on free audio via this year if anyone did the same and is up for a BR.

message 13: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments OOh, I don't have time to read that one at the moment, but go ahead and tell me what it's like when you finish it, yeah?

I'm about to be reading Shadow and Bone (The Grisha, #1) by Leigh Bardugo . I know this has been a buddy read for this group before, but I haven't managed to get a copy before now. Anyone else missed out on the buddy read, or want to reread with me?

I would do this with you Karen - but it would be nice to have it after Nov. 8th to count for challenge TTIII. Also will join for Shift

Wow - what an undertaking. I will join.

message 17: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments Wow, the more people who join in the Crime and Punishment undertaking, the more interested I become in joining in. And I do think it's one I have on my shelves...

I wanted to read Shadow and Bone for a while now but still haven't gotten around to it. When would you like to read it?

message 19: by Lisarenee (new)

Lisarenee | 7659 comments You guys are killing me. There are a lot of books I've been meaning to read that I own and you're putting up here. I may have to try to make time. Gah! (Yes, I am an addict)

Books I may try to get in on are:
Code Name Verity and Shadow & Bone

I can't promise I'll get in on them because my mom's getting out of rehab (she broke her leg and they're categorizing it as a hip injury) and I don't know how mobile she'll be aka how much she'll be dependent on me.

message 20: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments Oh god, I'm so sorry to hear that! I hope she's going to be okay?

As to Shadow and Bone, I started it since I didn't get any replies for it before now *sheepish*

message 21: by Lisarenee (new)

Lisarenee | 7659 comments She's okay now, but she was touch and go the first two weeks. She went to rehab 4 days after surgery and they had to readmit her a few days later. She spent another week in the hospital before they would release her a second time. She's in her early seventies and she doesn't seem to respond well to surgery. My son suggested we bubble wrap her. I thought it might be nice to rig her with a pull device that inflates quickly, but then I could see her bouncing around the house while inflated and she'd probably break more than her leg. lol It's amazing how fragile bones get when you reach a certain age. Too bad there isn't something we can take to reinforce our bones.

message 22: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments I like the bubble wrap idea. Just make sure you put in breathing holes, yeah?

Yeah, I think the calcium only works till teen years, if that long, for memory. I'm surprised that there isn't some kind of tablet for it yet. Seems like it would be very useful with the number of older people who have this kind of problem.

Ok, I have started, but I can pause and get stuck into something else. Maybe we start Nov 5? (as the end date will be after Nov 8 and count then?)

I like that idea. I have it available at my library now. Then we can read the second book - Rose Under Fire (Code Name Verity, #2) by Elizabeth Wein

Danielle and I (as good Hobbits) are going to (re)read The Lord of the Rings (The Lord of the Rings, #1-3) by J.R.R. Tolkien starting at the beginning of November with The Fellowship of the Ring (The Lord of the Rings, #1) by J.R.R. Tolkien (yeah, we want to try and get those tower-team-buddy-read points )
Since we both read and watched it before, it's going to be informal buddy read and watch. But we'll have some kind of schedule (to slow Danielle down :P)

You're welcome to join us.
We'll use existing BR threads and I'll move them here when we figure out start date.

Renee (reneeconoulty) | 3309 comments Does anyone want to read Still Alice by Lisa Genova ? I've read it before and loved it. I saw it on Netgalley for Australian readers and found out it is being made into a movie due to come out early next year. Maybe December?

message 28: by Karen ⊰✿, Fiction Aficionado (new)

Karen ⊰✿ | 16375 comments Mod
Sounds good Renee. I justg got approved through Netgalley. Nov is looking a little busy, so December would be perfect!

message 29: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 3566 comments I am planning to read Jurassic Park before the end of the year to finish an a-z challenge. Anyone interested in a buddy read?

message 30: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 3566 comments I also want to read Still Alice. (I saw it on Netgalley, but I'm not in Australia. Boo!) I may try to jump in on that one too. :)

I can get this on audio I think which will make it easier to fit in. When were you thinking of starting?

message 34: by Sarah (last edited Oct 20, 2014 10:32PM) (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments Yeah, killing me too. I hope I can fit all in. Won't be joining Jurassic Park, but all the others I am in on with all the BOMs, what a reading work out. I think I need another kind of work out too - dang, my butt gettin big.

message 35: by Renee (new)

Renee (reneeconoulty) | 3309 comments LOL Sarah! I keep telling myself that I should get on the treadmill with an audiobook, but it never seems to happen.

I'm not sure. I need a couple weeks to finish what I'm already reading, then I'm open. I just need to finish before the end of the year. What would work for you?

message 39: by [deleted user] (new)

So, now that we are doing this team-challenge....mwahahah....I want to participate in a buddy read! But I would like to start a series buddy read so that we can kind of progress with the characters all the way through. I loved WoT so much, and I wish that I had had someone to read it with.

For example, anyone want to start Outlander with me? Or maybe The Dark Tower series? I'm pretty much open to anything though :)

I would like to do Dark Tower series, I have been wanting to get started on theses.
The Gunslinger?

message 41: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes, Abbie! I would love to start that soon. Are you interested? I probably can't start reading it until next Monday, but if you are game, I am!

message 42: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments Taryn, if you do The Dark Tower series, I have been on book three all year, but put it aside, so I could join back in on book three. We are doing the Silo trilogy now, but already read Wool Omnibus but going to start Shift Omnibus later in November - then will have to set up for the last book still.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6237 comments I've got the The Book of Life (All Souls Trilogy, #3) by Deborah Harkness to read that already has an up and running buddy read going.

Anyone in the Tower Teams Challenge wanting to read with me for extra points? I'm in the Soaring Eagles.

message 44: by Abinormal (new)

Abinormal Taryn wrote: "Yes, Abbie! I would love to start that soon. Are you interested? I probably can't start reading it until next Monday, but if you are game, I am!"

Yes! For sure, I will get my copy from the library over the weekend, and then we can start on when ever you are ready.

message 45: by Kristie (last edited Oct 21, 2014 06:49PM) (new)

Kristie | 3566 comments Yes, Taryn! I forgot about that. (Thanks, Sarah!) You should join us for the Silo series. You could read Wool before we start Shift the end of November.

message 46: by [deleted user] (new)

Okay, Sarah! That sounds good to me. If we start this up, hopefully we will get a lot of people interested in it.

message 47: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 3566 comments We are planning to read the Unwind series as a buddy read, I think starting sometime near the beginning of November, if anyone would like to join us.

message 48: by [deleted user] (new)

Hey Kristie, I might join in even though it seems as if we will have to just form an alliance with no extra points LOL But I do love a good series.

message 49: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 3566 comments There are members from other teams included in the Unwind and Silo series reads, so the team members would get points. I'm not sure if multiple people from one group can get points if they are in the same buddy read with people not on their team, but I think they can. That's probably something for the mods or captains to answer for us.

message 50: by [deleted user] (new)

That is true. I am very new to this whole thing so it just kind of blows my mind that we don't have to enter points into a spreadsheet or something lol They seem to really have it together.
