Kerri (kerrimcbooknerd) | 1200 comments Man, we are doing well with the DQ selections! Yay!

Also, I totally agree that we kind of got the short end of the stick with our sin genre/cover color combo, heh. I mean... brown?! I don't think I own a single brown book. Space opera isn't so bad, but I'm not a fast reader and most of the space opera books I ran across are huge and intimidating, lol.

I think the whole brown thing was aimed at Cat. So we can totally blame her for that one lol

Alysa H. | 3833 comments Hi Teammies!
I finished both of my books. And, gotta say, it is awesome how active other people are on here on weekends (esp Saturday) when I tend not to be, lol. We are doing so great!!

@Rebecca
It doesn’t look like Harry and Hortense at Hormone High has a verified word count or length (via arboookfind.com or audio edition, respectively), and since it’s got Childrens as main page genre, we cannot use it without one of those verifications... 😕

message 504: by Alysa (new)

Alysa H. | 3833 comments @Ozana looks like Jessi took care of your books! :)

@Joanne didn’t you listen to audio of Gideon? Cuz you have the hardcover shelved. (And Jessi, some of the HC editions on both of the spreadsheets may need to be changed to audio editions if teammates re-shelve...)

That goes for anyone who listened to audio but shelved something else: We are supposed to shelve the edition we read/listened to.
In the case of this particular book, it may not matter quite as much as usual because all TT players are allowed to use the same page count, but still.

Just as a quick follow up to Jessi’s first point
If you have not finished a book by our cut-off of 30 minutes before the end of the countdown, take a break from reading and DON’T FINISH IT! That way, you can pick it back up again a bit later and use it for Week 2 :)

message 506: by Jessi (new)

Jessi (jazzykitty) | 1644 comments Ooo that was supposed to be my third point!! *Slaps hand on forehead* Thanks Alysa!!

message 507: by Alysa (new)

Alysa H. | 3833 comments Also this, due to spreadsheet issue with the start/end times being 7am in Australia:

If you have a US/UK reader who finishes a book on 13th, but after week 2 starts, there will have to be a fudge (or change the finish date to 14th)

:D

I have never shelved the audio edition of any book I read, always the default. I don't like seeing the lack of page count of "15 pages" for audio hour count, nor seeing the square cover on my shelf when all the others are rectangular and generally nicely lined up.

If it's going to be a problem for this challenge, I can always temporarily shelve the audio version and change it back when the challenge is over. Do you want me to do that? I figured since we use the default page count anyway it wouldn't matter.

message 509: by Joanne (new)

Joanne Are we going to be ok with books finished this week? We're not under the minimum? I was going to try to squeeze in one more book but I'm heading to work now and not sure it will happen, so it would be easier to just save it for next week.

Also, sorry to be a bother, but I can't remember: if there is ONLY an audio, with no page count, it counts for 100 pages right? The audio is 4hours30 minutes on Scribd with no page count: Windchill. With such a low count, not sure if it's worth even reporting for the challenge.

I totally get it! I'm the same way! But for this challenge, yes, shelve the audio. After the challenge you can always change it so everything looks nice and neat again. I know I will!

Correct it would only count for 100 pages. We need 5 books to hit the minimum of 30 books so go ahead and read it! If nothing else it's 10 points and even small amounts of points add up!

message 511: by Joanne (new)

Joanne I will push and finish Windchill today. It's not the one I planned, but otherwise I may finish too many next week.

Here's the amazon link if we need to add the time to goodreads:

We have to room to go over our sign up totals each week so don't worry too much about going over. Plus with reading longer books some of us may come up short of our sign up totals. So just read read read and if it's looking like we might go over I will let you know!

Jessi (jazzykitty) | 1644 comments Happy Sunday Everyone!!

We've got just under 5 hrs til end of week one and the start of week 2!

We've had an awesome week even if we are short of the minimum 30 books.

If you can get a book done before the end of week one that would be fantastic! If not, no worries, we can use books for week 2 that were started during week 1!

ETA: For those of us in the US/Canada. Because of the time zone difference between us and Australia if you finish books today when 'Week 2' officially starts please change your read date on your shelf to the 14th. This helps the caps/mods keep better track of the books on the spreadsheet. Thanks!

Happy Reading!!

Rebecca (radf) | 1036 comments Finished 3 books between last night and this morning. I marked them all for the 14th hopefully this is correct. They are on the spreadsheet. I'm headed off to work so I work be able to get another done sorry. Let me know if I need to change anything. Hopefully everyone is having a nice relaxing day reading!

I apologize I know it's super weird and confusing but since you're books are done now we can use them for week one so change the date read on your shelf to the 13th. After the start time for week 2 (later today) those books would go down as the 14th.

Nah you're good!! I'm updating the spreadsheet now!

I don't know if you guys are looking at/keeping up with the Tower Teams Status Sheet or not but as of at this moment we're tied for 2nd. Since we still have a few hours til week 2 starts this could change but we've had a phenomenal week!! And I think we're the team that really mastered reading bigger books for more points as opposed to just reading a bunch of smaller books!

Well done Team Ira!!

[[ Frankie ]] (freedbyfiction) | 536 comments I’m done, Jessi! Gideon is shelved as “read & on my TT shelf... & I’ve posted a 3rd set of DQ answers (plus the ones I wrote). I will add it to the SS now!

Is everyone using this book for our sin? (Space Opera?)

message 532: by Jessi (new)

Joanne So the minimum we need not to lose points is 31 right? And I see we're currently at 34. YAY! And tons of books toward Wrath! We definitely aren't the team that read the most books so that must mean we read some nice long ones worth a lot of points.

We definitely had the lowest #books to points ratio! I know we had a few over 1,000 pgs and that helped a ton! We did awesome!!

Allison Ann | 1408 comments Happy Week 2 Team Ira! We did a fantastic job on Week 1. I am currently reading an awesome 900 page book that I can not wait to go home and finish. Thank goodness my busy season is almost over (one more day). Hope you are all having a good weekend and Happy Thanksgiving to my fellow Canadians.

message 542: by Jessi (new)

Jessi (jazzykitty) | 1644 comments I forget how early thanksgiving is in Canada! So happy thanksgiving week to you guys!!

I’m starting with a whomper that comes in at around 1400 pages. (I know I’m crazy!)

Big books for lots of points worked really well for us last week! As did BOM points! I believe we had the most of those too!!

message 543: by Jessi (new)

Jessi (jazzykitty) | 1644 comments Also, there is a tab on the spreadsheet for week 2! Please use that tab to make things easy! @wren and @M I’ve moved your books from week 1 that weren’t finished to week 2 for you!

Thanks! Happy Thanksgiving to you too! What province are you? I have to work all weekend, including the holiday tomorrow, and Manitoba has declared a "state of emergency" because we got a ton of snow and thousands of people lost power. My power never went out, but the roads have been a nightmare to navigate.

Hey Joanne. I'm your neighbour over in NW Ontario, where we got about 8 mm of snow which immediately melted. Glad you've still got power. Be careful out there, not sure why all the idiots have to go out driving when it snows.

Also I'm afraid your book looks gray to me.

Alysa H. | 3833 comments Hi everybody!
So sorry I was away today. I feel like the jerk who shows up at the end of the party and is like, "Great time, y'all!" ;D

SO COOL THAT WE ARE IN FIRST!!!!
Looks like a reeeeeeaaaaalllly close race with Team Acedia though. If it weren't for our super high BOM points we wouldn't have gotten ahead. Hopefully we can continue to kill it on the BOMs, though fewer of us have committed to the upcoming ones so far (and I am not eligible for Wilder Girls).

Go Team Ira!
