Ian Miller | 1422 comments Obviously, the US did not invent Wahabbis, and one could argue that is the fundamental start of ISIS, and there is little doubt the US did not intend to assist ISIS grow, but the US support for the so-called Arab spring, the invasion of Iraq, and the original generation of al Qaeda to deal to those pesky Soviets is what got it going, and the fact is, the arms they use are all essentially made in the US, and then money ISIS has all comes from the Gulf states, or from tithing their occupied territories. Putin is correct - the US may not have intended this, but when they broke the region, they own the consequences. The irony is that Bush II probably really was driven into Iraq because Saddam insulted Bush I. Saddam, for all his faults, was the one guy that could keep ISIS down. Most of the countries in the mid-east had al Qaeda and Wahabbis, but not Iraq nor Iran. Bust II stamped out the one force that could have stopped this disaster, for no particularly honourable reason.

Ian Miller | 1422 comments I don't think there is any temporal or logical connection between WW II and ISIS. I don't think anybody thinks the US had ISIS as a goal or wanted to create them, but unintended consequences almost certainly led to them. The Saudis would have more blame, because they were the more direct suppliers of money and arms and it was the source of the Wahabbis, but the US is supporting the Saudis because they buy more guns.

Lance Morcan | 3047 comments "The world has never been a safer place," according to Trump following the death of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the elusive Islamic State leader, after "a high-risk US raid" in Syria...

Are we really expected to believe that? There'll be a hundred psychopathic misfits lining up to replace old Abu Bakr right now.

Trump may well think his re-election chances were boosted, though.

Ian Miller | 1422 comments Iain, if the US thought it was going into Iraq to suppress Iranian interests it did a remarkably incompetent job. If it did it to promote Shiite interest, then its policy is simply incoherent.

Ian Miller | 1422 comments If al Baghdadi was a US proxy, they may find recruiting further proxies somewhat difficult.

James Morcan | 11376 comments The Caliphate Project, Made in America. Declassified U.S. Government Documents Confirm the US Supported the Creation of ISIS

First published in May 2015, this article reveals not only that the ISIS is a creation of US intelligence, it also confirms that the Caliphate Project was designed in Washington.

See Screenshots Below from the title page as well as excerpts:

“ there is the possibility of establishing a declared or undeclared Salafist Principality in eastern Syria (Hasaka and Der Zor), and this is exactly what the supporting powers to the opposition want, in order to isolate the Syrian regime . (Washington Blog, see below)

udicial Watch has for many years obtained sensitive U.S. government documents through freedom of information requests and lawsuits.

The government just produced documents to Judicial Watch in response to a freedom of information suit which show that the West has long supported ISIS. The documents were written by the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency on August 12, 2012 years before ISIS burst onto the world stage.

Here are screenshots from the documents.

Ian Miller | 1422 comments Which is why the US bombed a Syrian government expedition to recover control over the eastern oilfields to make some money to help rebuild the damage. The US wants to make money selling arms to the Saudis, and it wants to get rid of Bashar. They care little for the fate of the ordinary citizen who has to suffer the consequences of their ridiculous foreign policy.
