Thanks for the well wishes. I'm staying with my grandma a few days. Just helping getting everything sorted

Great, thanks Alicia. My day was busier than expected with approximately 58 mins left on the book I was finishing. I'll finish it tonight😊

Thinking about you, Megan.

Alicia, oh no, your third book won't qualify, unfortunately. It's less then the minimun 150 page requirement. I'll finishing reading the book I was working on. It may be early evening for me because I believe we are going out for supper

Actually Alicia's first and third book are both under the page requirement. Sorry, I wasn't checking the books when I commented about Megan's situation. ☹️

AliciaJ | 1865 comments Completion Post - Task 7

39. Read 5 books set outside the US.

Murder in All Honour (New Scotland Yard/Doyle and Acton, #5) by Anne Cleeland Murder in All Honour
Read: 9/28
Pages: 259
Rating: 5 Stars
Qualifies: from precis: Things are a bit grim at Scotland Yard, this Christmas.

Review: Another wild romp with Doyle and Acton. I started reading this series a year or so ago, but got sidetracked, so I was really happy to pick this one up on kindle and delve into the somewhat twisted and macabre relationship between DCI Acton and DS Doyle. In this story, there is a rash of murders of pregnant women, and the babies are being stolen. It's bizarre, but I love all the twists and turns of the mystery. I'm definitely going to be picking up the next book and diving in as soon as I can.

message 259: by AliciaJ (new)

AliciaJ | 1865 comments So I'm starting another book right now Laura. If I can get it done today I'll repost our completion. Ugh, sooo sorry about that. For some reason I had it in my head that the limit was 100 pgs.

message 260: by Laura (new)

Laura | 2479 comments No worries, Alicia. I hope you were able to use the books for another challenge. I 'm almost finished my book. It's set in New Zealand. I will be done soon. I'll walk the dog then finish it. So, we could use that if I finish first.

I put the steampunk book on hold that you read. I'm excited to start the series.

Laura | 2479 comments Completion post- task 7

39. Read 5 books set outside the US.
Hide Your Heart (Bounty Bay, #1) by Tracey Alvarez
read: Sept 29
pages: 282 kindle edition
rating: 3 stars
qualifies: set in New Zealand- see precis -"Alexandra Lauren Knight has reinvented herself in the safety of her rural New Zealand hometown to become Lauren Taylor."
review: Although this was a typical single mom meets guy trope it was a cute story with a hea. I liked the friends to lovers relationship between Lauren and Nate. Lauren's son was a cute character and you just wanted him as much as Lauren to have his happy ever after with Nate joining their family. Cute read.

Laura | 2479 comments All checked in for task 7 :-)

Sorry that took longer than expected, my day did not go as planned. My intention was to finish much sooner.

48. Read 6 5 books featuring cowboys.

You can use tags, precis, title, series or lists to qualify for this task. Make sure you let me know how you know your book qualifies with links as necessary - I need to know how to confirm your book. 😊

AliciaJ | 1865 comments Completion Post - Task 8

48. Read 5 books featuring cowboys.

Catch and Release (The Release, #3) by B.A. Tortuga Catch and Release
Read: 9/29
Pages: 251
Rating: 4 Stars
Qualifies: tagged cowboys 7x
Review: This was a very slow burn romance, but I enjoyed the development of the relationship between Dakota, an ex-con wrongly convicted of rape, and Jayden, an ex-prosecutor who decides to help prove Dakota's innocence. I think what I enjoyed even more was Dakota's slow acceptance of his freedom and how he learned to enjoy his life again. It felt hopeful and just left me with a really good feeling.

Abigail's Adventure
Read: 29th Sept
Pages: 152
Rating: 4 stars
Qualifies: tagged cowboys-farms-horses-westerns 1x (not me)
Review: Its simple short but I thought it wasn't boring and I liked the characters in it. Its an easy to read historical romance. I think its linked to another series which I haven't read so there were parts that left me confused because it was sort of assuming you'd read the other story.

48. Read 5 books featuring cowboys.

Closer to You
Read: 30th Sept
Pages: 283
Rating: 1 star
Qualifies: tagged cowboy 1x not me!
Review: I can't even say why this was so boring but it just was.

I didn't like how he greeted her, he seems very full of himself. Shes got heeled boots on and thus she must be some sort of bimbo. However shes gone out there to try and talk him into selling his business when its clear he isn't interested.
I just thought this was a really poor start to a series and I just didn't end up liking either character. Shame because this held such promise.
I don't think I can say how much this book annoyed me!!

Megan | 1002 comments I'm coming to the conclusion I don't like western romances!!

Laura | 2479 comments Completion post- task 8

48. Read 5 books featuring cowboys.
The Cowboy's Mail Order Bride (Cowboys & Brides, #3) by Carolyn Brown
read: Sept 30
pages: 383 kindle edition
rating: 2.5 stars
qualifies: Cowboy in title ( see above book link)
review: I found this book a little slow and I think that's why I gave it the lower rating. I liked the relationship between Emily & Greg and I loved the shenanigans of the older ladies but I needed more "oomph", and heat to this story. Just a bit too slow paced for me.

48. Read 5 books featuring cowboys.

Wrapped and Strapped (Blacktop Cowboys, #7) by Lorelei James Wrapped and Strapped
Read: 9/30
Pages: 346
Rating: 4 Stars
Qualifies: from precis: tagged cowboys 41x
Review: It's been a while since I read the other books in this series, but I was able to get right back into the storyline without any problems. It felt kinda like when I don't watch my favorite soap for a few years, then see another episode, and I'm able to pick up the story and plot like I never left. I did love this couple in this book. I loved how they dealt with their past history, and how they came back together with honesty and truth between them. When there were issues, they worked them out. And man, I loved that ending, when Hugh promised her that he would work things so they could be together. It was perfect. I just hope that the next time I pick up a book in this series it will be as wonderful as this one was.

54. Read 6 5 books set on a beach or in the mountains, teams decide which.

Tarian Outcast Tarian Outcast (New Tarian Pride, #3) by T.S. Joyce
Read: 1st Oct
Pages: 195
Rating: 4 stars:
Qualifies: tagged damon-s-mountains-world
Review: This was fine but it felt very fast and I wish T.S. Joyce would stop making her characters clumsy in that haha I'm such a dork and trip on thin air. Its just a weird character and I never fully love them.
She reminded me a lot of Willa who was like this in her book too.

Deliciously Mated Deliciously Mated (Ouachita Mountain Shifters, #1) by P. Jameson
Read: 1st Oct
Pages: 243
Rating: 3 stars
Qualifies: tagged ouachita-mountain-shifters
Review: 3 stars because although this was good. I didn't think it was that great. It had good points like I thought Edgan was interesting and nice. I thought Clara was a nice character too but the underlying thing of cats are never faithful is something I think the author needs to nip in the bud.
Her other series is much better. I'm glad I started with the others' first.

message 280: by Megan (new)

Megan | 1002 comments I'll stop but I can take on a 3rd book if necessary. I have no idea how I got through those so quick probably because they weren't long.

Ouachita Mated Ouachita Mated (Ouachita Mountain Shifters, #2) by P. Jameson
Read: 1st Oct
Pages: 238
Rating: 4 stars
Qualifies: tagged ouachita-mountain-shifters
Review: This was much much better than the other book. I felt the connection a little more although it was a litttle quick it was OK. I liked Magic too even with him being he broody hurt cat I found him appealing and I liked him. I could get why everyone thought she was a flake. Although it seems a little quick you meet Josie and then wham it all happens but its nice I also enjoyed the backstory/side story more for Magic and Josie.

Rocky Mountain Heat (Six Pack Ranch #1, Rocky Mountain House #1) by Vivian Arend
read: Oct 1
pages: 232
rating: 2 stars
qualifies: series name ( see book link above)
review: I'm really not a fan of the forbidden/age trope so this one just didn't do anything for me. I felt like there wasn't much substance to this book with almost the first half about Blake and how he was so much older than Jaxi. If there weren't two different accidents and some sexy time this book would have nothing.

Mackenzie's Mountain (Mackenzie Family, #1) by Linda Howard Mackenzie's Mountain
Read: 10/1
Pages: 375
Rating: 4 Stars
Qualifies: Mountain in the title
Review: Even after all these years, this story still remains one of my top favorites by Linda Howard. I love the contrast between the tiny, delicate Mary and the big, gruff, Wolf. They are so different, yet they fit perfectly together. I also like the fact that this is one of the few early books by Linda that doesn't have an autocratic and domineering to the point of abusive hero. Wolf likes to tell Mary what to do, but she just tilts her chin at him and does what she feels is best anyway. There is a vein of gentleness running through their every interaction that I just adore. So, obviously, this is a favorite re-read of mine and I'm really glad this challenge gave me the opportunity to pick it back up again.

I saw at least one other post in this group. The thing is, you act like that in a reader's group and they will turn on you. There is no win here! 🤬
