MountainKat | 30695 comments I think most of you know each other, at least a little, but feel free to introduce yourself again. Please give any relevant information, especially time zone as that helps know when it is best to communicate. 😊

Please select a team leader to help keep track of where your team is in any given task. And as necessary guide discussions for task decisions. Any teammate can report your completions though.

Remember, it is the team's responsibility to notify the host (me) if a teammate fails to complete the task in a timely manner or otherwise goes missing! I am not checking all the team threads regularly to notice and may only check when notified a task is complete.

PS - If you want to be known as anything other than Team 11, you are free to come up with a team name. 😉

Maggie Robinson (librariansdaughter77) | 1485 comments Hi All,

Thanks for joining the Amazing Race! I raced the last round and had a lot of fun. This will be my second time through this challenge and I found it fun and mostly easy once we found a rhythm last time through.

A little about me. I'm a SAHM with a high schooler and a middle schooler. I'm very extraverted so staying home without a set job is a bit odd for me. I worked as a non IT Project Manager for 20 years. I've started writing in the past few months. Prior to that I was a book blogger. I keep saying I'll go back to blogging soon. I really will. Soon. I live in CT, in the town I was born in. It's one of those weird not so small towns that no one ever leaves. I'm a big sports fan with English Premier League and the MLB being my two sports of choice. Both my kids play soccer. I don't play sports, but I do ice skate.
I love to read, mainly read romance these days. I do love thrillers and mysteries as well. I can't read horror. I know. I'm missing out on Stephen King. My mom was a librarian for over 40 years so she fed my reading addiction when I was growing up.

Maggie Robinson (librariansdaughter77) | 1485 comments For Captaining and Team Name -

I don't mind being captain if no one else would like to.

For Team Names, do any of the following sound good?
(I'm low on creativity this week. My apologies)

1- Reading On Empty
2- Not Now - We're Reading
3 - Just One More Chapter

message 7: by M (new)

M | 659 comments Hey there!

This will be my third time doing this challenge. It's tons of fun and I can't want to get to reading with you all! I am 100% ok with Maggie being our captain.

I'm a SAHM to 2 boys (12 and 10). We live in a small coastal town in California (pacific standard time). I'm a night owl and a early bird, unfortunately. We are huge baseball fans in our house! GOOOO GIANTS!! Our oldest is playing in the majors for little league and he just happens to be on the Giants. Yay!! So we are back to being away from home 4+ nights a week. I've missed it.

I read a lot of arcs, but try to get to my tbr often. I love audiobooks! I read a lot of dark romance - enemies to lovers/bully, mafia and RH. I also have to cleanse my palette a time or two between books so I also read sports romance, rom-com, friends to lovers and second chance.

I don't read historical and am not a huge fantasy/PNR fan. I don't like horror or cheating in books. Other than that, I read lots of different tropes so it should be good for the challenge.

I really like Just One More Chapter!

message 9: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten | 238 comments Hello!

I'm Kirsten (KIR rhymes with DEER), a theatre professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (central time) with an awesome, wicked smart, competitive swimmer lesbian high school freshman and a sexy, even smarter, swims for fun, incredibly kind man I've been unmarried with for 25 years this May.

I read like it's my job, and read nearly everything, though since Covid it's hard for me to keep my mind on anything but genre fiction. I mostly read MM right now, but I am more than happy to branch out when a challenge calls for it.

I've never done this before, but I am loving Scavenger Hunt in the MM group and had a ball with their Spelling Bee.

I do not want to be captain, so Maggie, go for it!

I like Reading on Empty best, because I think puns are awesome, but all 3 names work for me.

MountainKat | 30695 comments Just waiting on Kira to check in! 😊

message 11: by Kira (new)

Kira (kirac) | 547 comments Checking in!

I am also happy to have Maggie as captain. Thank you for volunteering!

I'm in Alberta, Canada (Mountain Time). I am a night owl and am most active on ŷ in the evening hours. I can try and set up and watch for notifications if we need to make any decisions earlier in the day.

I work full-time as a veterinarian. I have 2 giant dogs (Great Dane - "Charles" and St. Bernard - "Ravi"). They're both great reading buddies.

I've rediscovered my love of fiction again in the last year. I didn't read much while in university, mostly since I felt guilty reading for fun when I could be studying. I read mostly MF romance and enjoy basically all genres/tropes (except maybe historical, which I haven't really tried). I also enjoy the odd thriller or general fiction. There are just so many books and not enough time. I've also started to appreciate audiobooks and lately they've made up half, if not more, of my reading.

"Reading On Empty" is my favourite too! But I am also happy with "Just One More Chapter". Thank you for suggesting names! I am definitely lacking even more in the creativity department.

This will be my first TART challenge and I'm looking forward to racing with all of you!

Kirsten I'm sorry, I've been wrongly correcting your name every time I write it. Your pronunciation and spelling is the same as one of my cousins. I'm so used to having to undo it that I forget to recheck. I'm sorry!

I didn't even notice that, Maggie -- I rarely do, when someone types it wrong--I assume it's a typo. And I've typoed my name. But after my Josh started correcting people for me (and he's an introvert), I realized how many people didn't get it right, so now I do that introduction.

Uuugggghhh! Feel better soon! The one my spawn gifted me with is horrid. Not the spawn. The cold. I hope yours passes quickly! Rest and lots of fluids.
Yes, I know. Telling a mom to rest is like wishing on a star and laughing at a rainbow while thinking there is a pot of gold somewhere. But still.....

Maggie Robinson (librariansdaughter77) | 1485 comments Some Things That Are Good To Know

MPG = Main Page Genre this would be the listing you find to the right hand side on the "old" version of GR. I know my version keeps flipping from their new beta to the older one. I haven't found MPG on the Beta version yet. If you are using the mobile app, MPG would be the shelves listed at the bottom of the of book summary, reviews, and "books by" or "series" it shows as "Genres"

Series Rule = which reads as Series rule will apply to tasks where you pick from the group or a teammate's shelf means you can read any book in the series you have picked for this task. For instance, I am currently reading Challenge which is Book 1 in the Harris Brothers you could chose to read Dominate instead of Challenge as it is book 5 in the same series as Challenge is.
* If I am misunderstanding this rule AT ALL please please please correct me!!

- currently those were the two big things that stood out to me. Let me know if there are other things we should add in here for reference.

Kirsten | 238 comments Maggie, I made my shelf. I only have 2 MM books on it, because I don't want to force people outside of their comfort zones.

BUT, if all y'all want MM recs, let me know and I'll change that.

Thank you! This works! I've actually read Beach Read and I own and have started Boyfriend Material a few times. I own it in physical version so it seems to always get placed down and I never come back to it. I know the sequel is out now so I really really need to read it!

Maggie Robinson (librariansdaughter77) | 1485 comments Hi all,

I've got to head to bed. It's after midnight here.
I have all of the tasks that need team decisions and discussions posted out on our group. Anything that I could offer lists to, opinions on, or past experience on is noted out there as well.

I'll be offline a lot tomorrow as we're taking a day trip down to the shoreline, but I expect to be online later tomorrow evening to catch up and start filling final decisions in on our tasks above.

This week is spring break for us, so I'll be in and out, but tomorrow and Friday are the only days I'll be offline for a good chunk of the days. The rest will be errands and running "Mom's Uber" for the kids.

I hope you have good Mondays!

Have fun on your trip to the shoreline Maggie!

I have an 1.5 hour drive with a mountain view tomorrow (at least on the way there). I'm looking forward to enjoying it with coffee and audiobook. But later on I have an inspection for my truck and an appointment to work on my taxes. Less anticipation and more dread for that part of the day.

Wishing happy Mondays to the rest of you!

Thank you! I've updated your shelf and I've added the authors you've found. I also added W.S. Greer. He's an attending author for an event I'm going to in November.

Thanks Kira! I've updated your shelf above.
It was a gorgeous day out here yesterday. It was 60, cloudless and perfect. Most of the beaches and the shops along the coast haven't opened yet as we live in CT and we're a Memorial Day to Labor Day sort of shoreline, but the book store I love is open year round. As is the boardwalk I like downtown. We were able to get some sea and sun in along with books and food. The shoreline towns have spring break the week following easter this year so it was quiet as well!

Kira, you have both a hockey book and another on your list--perhaps they'll come up for me in another challenge, since I'm reading from M!

Kira (kirac) | 547 comments Sounds like it was a super nice day Maggie!

Kirsten, I figured I would read the crowd and make sure there was at least one sports romance on the list. lol. And being Canadian, it's pretty much a given that hockey is my preferred sport. I'm planning to continue the Seattle sharks series in this challenge, along with taking some new recs, obviously.

The first task is announced in a few hours! I'm excited. 😂

Kira, if you ever read MM, Samantha Wayland’s Poetry in Motion and it’s sequel are quite good. And Taylor Fitzpatrick’s Thrown Off the Ice is effeing brilliant.

I'm adding these to my TBR now. I'm a hockey reading addict as well.

I LOVE the Sharks series! Grinder was my favorite. I fell off when she started the Reapers. It's a spin off from the Sharks. I need to pick that one up again.

MY grandfather was a Canadian and 1/2 of my family is either in the New Brunswick area or scattered in the UK. Grandpa played semi pro before WWII. We were all brought up with the NHL in the house and I sort of remember the words to O Canada. He's the one who taught me to skate though. And he's the reason why I'm the soccer mom who shouts hockey terms out at games LOL the rules are too similar!

Shoot! I need to update my shelf! I have the Q&A thread open as I can grab the task as soon as it's posted.

Maggie Robinson (librariansdaughter77) | 1485 comments We have our first task ladies!

0. Read a book with either blue or yellow on the cover, teams decide which. No pass for this task.

I am sure we are all aware of the nightmare taking place in Ukraine over the past month and a half. To honor the Ukrainians strength and sorrow, the first task is to read a book with a color from the Ukrainian flag. Teams decide which color, blue or yellow. The selected book need to be primarily the selected color. No pass for this task.

Which color would you prefer blue or yellow?

I have no preference

message 44: by Kira (new)

Kira (kirac) | 547 comments I have options for either. My preference would be blue.

message 45: by M (new)

M | 659 comments I think blue might be easier... maybe lol

message 46: by Kira (new)

Kira (kirac) | 547 comments It’s been snowing all day. And I really wanted to just stay on the couch with my dogs.

But of course I got an end of day call. So off to do a quick surgery on a cow. I will check check in again after and start a book of whatever colour we decided tonight.

This is my first TART challenge. What time does MKat usually assign new tasks? They’re only assigned every other day right? So we’ll have until Wednesday night to finish?

message 47: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten | 238 comments Either color, but blue seems easier to me.

message 48: by Maggie (new)

Maggie Robinson (librariansdaughter77) | 1485 comments We'll go with Blue!

For tasks - a new one will be assigned within 24 hours of us all posting our completion posts for this task and then MKat verifying that we have completed the task correctly.

I think we have 5 days at most to finish a task, but the sooner we can complete a task, the sooner we get a new task.

If three out of the 4 of us have posted completion posts for a task and more than 3 days goes by without hearing from the missing 4th player, that player will be removed from the team.

The closest tasks will be assigned would be every other day.

message 49: by Maggie (new)

Maggie Robinson (librariansdaughter77) | 1485 comments I've added the information needed for completion posts to msg 23 where I post our current task. That information along with the information along with the First Edition Kindle Page Count will remain within that msg regardless of which task we are working on.

The same information can be found in msg 3 on this thread

Also mentioned in msg 22 is the following reminder for length of books and rereads -

There is a 150 page minimum for books, rereads and audios ok.

Thought I'd pop this out here before we get too deep into reading.

Kirsten | 238 comments I think this cover is blue-- do you?

One Under

It's next on my list for another challenge. But I can also read The Intimacy Experiment
