Martha (marthas48) | 766 comments I'm only on the 2nd one, but am loving the Meg Langslow series. Anne's House of Dreams is the next in that series for me. Not sure why I keep putting it off. LOL

So many series there that I'm also enjoying and some ones I'm not familiar with. I'll have to check them out. 70 books is a good number. Good luck with your 2023 selections.

message 6: by Patricia (new)

Patricia | 1054 comments Very organized challenge! Some I've heard of & read; many others I haven't. I've enjoyed all the Elly Griffiths books I've read--from all 3 of her series. I read Nettle & Bone this year & loved it. One of those, I want to get my own copy & read it again.
Happy Reading!

message 7: by Anne (new)

Anne | 438 comments I am reading the Meg Langslow and Ruth Galloway series as well. I read all the Anne of Green Gables books many years ago and loved them. I've read Macbeth at least twice, and I've seen it performed in the theater once (amazing!). A Spindle Splintered was a good book. I also liked Confessions on the 7:45, The Priory of the Orange Tree, and Gideon the Ninth.

Also on my TBR: The Ruin of Kings, Malice, A Natural History of Dragons, Babel, Shadowmarch, The Time Machine. I hope we both enjoy them.

I'll have to look at the rest later. I'm sure I'll end up adding more books to my TBR, though.

I've read the first in one of Elly Griffith's other two series and been surprised at how different it was from Ruth Galloway, but still really good. Looking forward to reading more.

As usual, we are reading/have read a lot of the same books, not surprised :) Even better, you enjoyed them, good chance I will too!
The Anne of Green Gables books are technically re-reads, but I was 12 last time I read them, so I've forgotten what happens.

Oooohhh, this list looks so good!!! I will be lurking off/on for the whole weekend.

I have most of these on my own TBR; and definitely see some things that I may need to add.

Since I am almost done/caught up with Murderbot; I will need to think about that Raksura series. I need to retry the Kim Stanley Robinson books - Mars Trilogy: Red Mars, Green Mars, Blue Mars.

Good luck and I will continue lurking.

message 10: by Ioana (new)

Ioana | 2060 comments I will probably aim for 70 too, but I will never be able to be so organized...
Happy reading!

message 11: by Lillie (new)

Lillie | 1555 comments 70 books seems like a reasonable challenge.

Loved the Shetland series. Have you read either of Ann Cleeves series? Really enjoyed those as well.

Really need to read the Anne of Green Gables series. Think I’m the only one who hasn’t read it.

Going to wait to see what you think of Martha Wells Raksura series before I pick them up. I love her Murderbot series but I’m unsure of her fantasy books.

Anyway, happy 2023 reading!

Raksura books are really different from the Murderbot books - but I like both of them in different ways. Raksura is fantasy, not sci-fi...but the imagination and story is just as good.

Thanks, Ioana :) The second part of the challenge isn't very organized...just a big list of books from authors I haven't read, or books I own, that I want to read - and I can pick anything I want from it. Great for mood reading :)

Yes I have read other Ann Cleeves - been working my way through the Vera books this year, love them so much. I've read a few Shetland books, so focusing on the rest of them in 2023.

Anne of Green Gables is such comfort reading - actually this time around I'm listening to the audiobooks, which has been a lot of fun.

Marha Wells' imagination and great writing is just as good in the Raksura books as in the Murderbot - but they are very different series. Do you like fantasy books? Or just sci-fi like Murderbot? I love Murderbot's snarky humour, lol. Raksura is a cool world though.

Sounds perfect. You know I love my fantasy!

Lea (leaspot) | 3458 comments I'm re-reading Anne's House of Dreams right now. So far, it isn't gripping me, it isn't one of my favorite in the series...but the books after it make it worth the struggle.

I'm hoping to read Hell Bent when it comes out this year.

I just finished reading The Bullet That Missed, and it might be my favorite of the series.

I read Last Breath, and now I learn that there's another book in the series. I'm waiting for someone to read Fatal Witness and tell me that I must read it. :-)

Macbeth is one of my favorite plays by Shakespeare. I'm pretty hit or miss with him.

I love your idea of reading 15 new authors or books you own from your looong list. So many good books on there, I don't know how you'll choose, but I'm here for it!

Thanks, Lea :) Glad to hear The Bullet That Missed is good - and Hell Bent, finally book two in this series, it took forever. Probably because she was writing excellent books in her other series, lol.

Malice and Sleeping Giants, are highly recommended.

I'm still lurking and have added a couple to my TBR; but I had to mention those. The Themis Files can be read in a long weekend. I literally read each book within 24 hours; so you know it must be good. Perfect, no; but really good and great pacing.

I'm looking forward to the others as well :)

The whole trilogy is good; but of course, the first book is the best. I read each book in one sitting. It was that good.

With no list to give me structure, I may spiral, haha. Actually, I'm picking from my 2024 list, so I can whittle that down to something realistic, lol.
