That's the list. Which ones have you read? Which would you like to read in November?

message 3: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Dawn | 1664 comments The only one I haven't read is "Astradeni" which was previously difficult to find, but has been recently added to open library (yay!). So, obviously voting for that one, and will read it in the next couple of months regardless.

message 4: by Valerie (new)

Valerie Brown | 835 comments I would be most interested in The Singapore Grip.

message 5: by Patrick (new)

Patrick Robitaille | 1541 comments Mod
I have read about 25 of these and there are five currently languishing on my TBR shelf:

The Circle (Eggers)
The Virgin Suicides (Eugenides)
Troubles (Farrell)
Troubling Love (Ferrante)
The Story of the Lost Child (Ferrante)

Troubling to see that there are two troubling titles in my short list: maybe I should go to the trouble of backing one of them?

message 6: by Jamie (new)

Jamie Barringer (Ravenmount) (ravenmount) | 553 comments I have read 19 of the eligible books in this section of the list, plus 4 of the ones that are excluded. By November I will be done with at least one more, and I don't currently own most of the rest at the moment, but I think I can get The Virgin Suicides at the library and that would finish out Eugenides for me.

I've read 30 of these and the ones I am interested in no one has mentioned.
So I will just see how things come out.

message 8: by Gail (new)

Gail (gailifer) | 2100 comments I have also read 30 and that is probably my personal best to date. I have read Astradeni, the one book that Amanda has not read. I have read Singapore Grip. I have not read Troubles by Farrell but have read Troubling Love. I would vote for Troubles if anyone else is interested in that. I would be open to many others also so I will wait to see what others think.

I haven't read Troubles either so that might be a good option.

message 10: by Pip (new)

Pip | 1822 comments I have read 30, which is far more than usual, I don’t have any that I haven’t read actually on my shelf, so I am happy to sit out and see what comes up.

message 11: by Rosemary (new)

Rosemary | 664 comments I've also read 30. I haven't read The Singapore Grip and I own that one. I've read the others by Farrell.

Of Patrick’s list, the only one I’ve read is The Virgin Suicides. I’ve read all of Eugenides 1001 books.

Diane Zwang | 1833 comments Mod
I would be interested in The Circle (Eggers) or The Virgin Suicides (Eugenides).

Heck, I'll go for Troubles then!

message 15: by George P. (last edited Sep 18, 2023 02:31AM) (new)

George P. | 697 comments I've read 20 of the eligible ones, which is more than usual for me. The only one I see that I really want to read soon is Endo's Silence, but will certainly consider others.
I have a copy of Astradeni that I read recently that I will send to any of our group that ask.
I would read Troubles or Singapore Grip- I liked his Seige of K.

Oh no, I have confused my Farrells! I have read the Singapore Grip and Troubles. It's The Siege of Krishnapur that I own and haven't read.

I also have The Circle by Dave Eggers. I think I will vote for that.

It sounds like we may have quite a split in the vote this month!

message 17: by Pippin (new)

Pippin | 10 comments I've read 5. I can only read one Ferrante book per year and have already read one of her Neopolitan books this year (they are good, just draining.) I could go for The Circle or Troubles. I haven't read Like Water for Chocolate yet and have it on my shelf, but I'm probably in the minority. (maybe it will turn up as the random pick...)

message 18: by Mette (new)

Mette (therealmette) I've only read 1: The Book About Blanche and Marie. (Very boring, as I remember).
I am reading the Neapolitan novels, but as they are 4 books I don't think anyone else will vote for this.
Sooo I'm going with The Virgin Suicides, since I loved the movie.

message 19: by Karen (new)

Karen | 421 comments I have read 17 of these (voteable ones) which must be a record! I am going to vote for Silence because I have owned it for years and really want to read it.

I have read both of the Ferrante books, Like Water for Chocolate and The Siege of Krishnapur which others have mentioned.

Randomizer pick: Hallucinating Foucault

Voting results:
The Circle 8
Troubles 17
Less than zero 1
Astradeni 5
Virgin Suicides 1
Singapore Grip 1
silence 6
cheese 1

What will you be reading in November?

message 22: by Pamela (new)

Pamela (bibliohound) | 549 comments I read Troubles fairly recently so won’t reread it. Hallucinating Foucault is short and sounds quite intriguing, so I think I’ll read that one.

message 23: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Dawn | 1664 comments Loved both of these books, so hope others enjoy too. I can mod Hallucinating Foucault if no one else wants to claim it.

message 24: by Pip (new)

Pip | 1822 comments I read Troubles in February as a randomiser, so will not re-read. Hallucinating Foucault is on Kindle, but sadly not on Audible. My credits continue to pile up.

message 25: by Rosemary (new)

Rosemary | 664 comments Also looking forward to Hallucinating Foucault!

message 26: by George P. (last edited Sep 26, 2023 01:48PM) (new)

George P. | 697 comments I've read Hallucinating Foucault, 6 years ago, probably when it was a botm for this group before.
I'm interested in reading Troubles. However its on the long side and I'm trying hard to break my PR for most books read in a year; I still may be able to fit it in though. I find I can get it from a couple libraries. I better go read a book now.

message 27: by George P. (new)

George P. | 697 comments I'm about 40% through Troubles, it goes pretty quickly. It got a lot of votes so I look forward to a good discussion.
