9. Small town - Read a book set in a small town
Book: Summer Romance, Annabel Monaghan

Date Read: 5 June

Review: A pretty standard plot line - a 30-something woman struggles to get her life back on track after a divorce. But it's made extraordinary by great characters, especially Ethan. He was funny, caring, and thoughtful. What a wonderful book boyfriend!

I am halfway through the book. Because I am taking part in many challenges as all of us (I believe), the specific book got the backburner, but I am intending to finish the book and have my completion post before the next task.

Option 1
12. Glasses / gloves / hat / bag / phone / watch
Read a book with one of these items on the cover.
Sunglasses will count as 'glasses'. Winter gear such as mittens and beanies will work for 'gloves' and 'hat'. 'Bag' will also cover luggage/backpacks.
A clock will NOT work for watch. The items need to be things that may be packed for a holiday or travel.
In the case of 'phone', cell-phones (mobiles) count. I will also allow a handset that you would find in an office/home or a payphone, as these may be used to book holidays, flights, etc.
As proof, please post the edition's bookcover in your selection post that shows the items described above.
Please ask if you are not sure.

Book: The All-Girl Filling Station's Last Reunion
Author: Fannie Flagg
Page number: First Kindle Edition 363pages
Qualifications:

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Date Read June 7, 2024
Review: There are real-life stories that are hidden stories that, through fictional books, you learn about them. I knew nothing about WASP (Women Airforce Service Pilots) that worked hard during WWII, but I learned through The All-Girl Filling Station's Last Reunion. This book is for readers who love stories about strong, spirited women, mothers and daughters, and the power of self-discovery, as it weaves together a rich tapestry of historical events, humor, and heartwarming moments that will leave readers feeling inspired and nostalgic.
I like Sookie's character. She has a Southern charm. I like how the author, Fannie Flagg, decides to write the story with both plot lines going simultaneously. I enjoyed both plotlines for the first time, even though I got mad at Lenore's behavior towards her daughter.
It is a great little book about love, family, and the what-ifs in life. I enjoyed reading something that left me feeling lighthearted and happy. There was no ambiguity with characters, everyone's story wrapped up completely, and there were no nagging questions. Sometimes you want answers, so this was nice!!!

Week 9 selections - Carmen & Heather (with a few days to go :)"
I am finishing up the week 8 book right now, and hope to have week 9 completed today as well since it is due for another challenge today. I got a bit behind because I was traveling for work this week with a large group of interns and managers and there were social events every night, which left me absolutely exhausted. I'm so happy to be catching up today on both reading and rest!

Review: Romance, entertaining and just plain fun. This was a first with this author but it was a fun book to read. Glad the MC found out what she really wanted and not what others wanted for her.

Week #10 Option 1
12. Glasses / gloves / hat / bag / phone / watch
Read a book with one of these items on the cover.
Book: Nice Work, Nora November, Julia London

Date Read: 11 June
Rating:
Review: After nearly drowning, Nora has a new lease on life. She writes what she calls a reverse bucket list - things she wants to accomplish after her near-death experience.
I loved Nora and Jack, the guy who got away in her 'before' life. The romance is sweet, but definitely secondary to Nora's journey to come into herself. I thought the author did a very good job of dealing with Nora's depression and anxiety, but her toxic parents were just two-dimensional. (And never really got any sort of comeuppance.)
TW: attempted suicide

Option 2 - Teammate read on or after 17 November 2023 and rated at least 3 stars
Book: The Fine Print by Lauren Asher
Pages: 450
Qualifications: Avigail read on 3/14/24 and rated it 5 stars
Read: 6/8
Rating: 3.5 stars
I overall enjoyed this. The emotional unavailability of Rowan came across very believably, and I enjoyed the journey of seeing Zahra open him up. I really liked the idea that he was finally willing to grow up enough to stand on his own feet and walk away from family expectations. That said, at times her overall flare, for lack of a better word, became grating and slowed me down.

Week #11 Option 1
Clothes - Read a book with clothes on the cover
Book: Talulah's Back in Town, Brenda Novak

Date Read: 14 June
Rating: ***3/4
Review: Talulah left her hometown 14 years ago after she left her fiancee at the altar. Now she's back to clear out her aunt's house after her death, and encounters all sorts of negativity because she was a runaway bride at age 18. This is the story of her learning about herself and falling in love along the way.
But I have to ask Brenda Novak: what sort of parents name one child Talulah and the other Debbie???? It sounds like a punchline for a joke.

Review: Another really great book in this series. The chemistry between this couple popped off the page while you read it. I enjoyed the journey that both characters went on to realize that though they didn't initially think they were ready for a relationship they each grew to realize that they should be together. It was a really solid romance, and I'm looking forward to the next in the series.

Review : What a great start to this series with the Winston brothers. Duane and Jess are so hot for each other but Jess was the one that needed to catch up. Well things were messy with these two but I have to say there was definitely other things or people that can put a wrench to a relationship but I can't wait to see which brother is next and what mess is going to be involved.
