Jane (PS) | 23969 comments 1. Introduce yourself to your team. Let your team members know where you are from. This is a 'nice to know' when categories are announced and when team-mates can expect other members to post their book choices.

2. Baton (Captain) - reserve a couple of posts in this thread tracking your team's book selection and completion. (Alternatively they could convert a chat comment to the tracking post/s.)

3. Name your team. Using this round's theme, come up with a fun name. Given we are an open/public group with no age limit, so please make sure any chosen name is smart, not smutty ;)

Please PM your name to Jane(PS) by 3 October

4. If you have a private profile, please 'friend' your team-mates. This is really important, because without this, your team-mates can't see your shelves to select a books under option 2. (It will also help with one of the categories in this round!)

5. Please post your book selections/completions in the format provided below. (This format is also posted in both the Q&A and Sign-Up threads.) We need to know the week that each book corresponds to, the page numbers, and how the book qualifies including links to lists/shelves (where applicable), etc. I can't stress this enough. When in doubt - link it*!

* don't link to your review in your completion post - reviews in your completion posts should be included in full in that post.

You don't want to start reading a book and then find it doesn't meet the requirements because some information (eg page count or theme link) was missing from your original post.

I will be monitoring this and your book will not be considered complete until I am satisfied that your selection and completion posts comply with the format rules of the challenge.

Remember - you can ONLY change your book selection in the week that the theme is called.

6. You MUST check in with your team each week, ideally once the theme is announced. Please let your team know if you expect to have spotty communication or are on holidays or having an operation, etc.

7. When you post the completion of your book, you must post a review; enough for us to know you have actually read the book. Please don't link to a review. You must post the review in this thread.

8. Re-reads are allowed but you can't read the same book twice within this challenge.

9. There is no prize for the winning team - bragging rights only :)

10. Each week, the theme will be announced in the Q&A/Announcement thread. The full list of themes announced during this round will be maintained in msg 1 of that thread.

The Rule on the Pass Option
* Each team can only have ONE member using their pass each week.
* Each member can only use that pass once each 5 weeks.
* This means that one or two team members (dependent upon the size of your team) will miss using a pass in each 5 week block.
* No-one can use the pass option in the last week of the challenge.
* In the final week Option 2 has altered and I will be allocating each team another team from which their book selection must be chosen :)

Jane (PS) | 23969 comments Key selection and completion post information. You must have ALL elements in your book posts.

For selection post Option 1 you must have:
Week #
Bookcover/link
Page numbers
How the book qualifies - please note which qualifying bookshelf/list you are using or the tags that justifies that it works.
If the theme is based off the bookcover, post the cover. If there is a letter count in the title, publication date etc, please note these details.

For selection post Option 2 you must have:
Week #
Bookcover/link
Page numbers
Name of the team-member, their star rating, the date they read the book.

For selection post Option 3 you must have:
Week #
PASS

For the completion post you must have:
Week #
Bookcover/link
Rating (1-5)
Review

Please DO NOT CHAT in these selction/completion posts. It needs to be super clear.

If you 'waffle' about your decided book - please REPOST your selection once you decide. DO NOT go back and edit your waffling post.

IF YOU NEED TO CORRECT A POST FOR MISSING INFORMATION or because the didn't qualify etc, please REPOST this information in a NEW post, particularly when the request is more than a day old. Its difficult to find older posts when going backwards in the threads.

MN Lisa (lisa713mn) | 1454 comments Hello Team 1! My name is Lisa and I'll be your captain in this round of PtP.

There are a few thing we should do before the challenge starts:
1. Introduce yourselves!
Your name, where you're from, your favorite books, hobbies, and anything else you'd like us to know about you :) Also please include your time-zone!
2. Decide on the team name
Any suggestion is appreciated

message 9: by Jamie (new)

Jamie | 286 comments Hey ya'll! I'm Jamie. I live in Alabama with my husband and 3 of my 4 kids. We also have a Goldendoodle that keeps me on my toes. I love to read pretty much anything and don't really have any triggers.
My go-to reads lately have been anything dark, M/M or fantasy.

I'm really bad at names. I'll try and think of some.

I see some familiar names that I've been on teams with in the past. Excited to start this round of PtP with everyone!

Louise | 1107 comments Hi all. I’m Louise from South Wales where I live with my partner and 2 dogs. I too read pretty much anything but tend to stay away from horror. Not very good with names

message 11: by Stacey (new)

Stacey (boydsmom) | 205 comments Hi everyone! I'm Stacey and I live in North Carolina (Eastern Time Zone) with my mastiff Sebastian. I'll read pretty much anything if needed for a challenge, but I tend to lean towards fantasy, paranormal or romantic suspense when I get to choose.

I'm terrible with names. I like Ready Set Dough though. :)

message 12: by Michaele (new)

Michaele | 6264 comments Hello - I am Michaele (pronounced like Michael) I currently live in Utah (so MST) with my goofy dog Jack.

I mostly read contemporary MM, but am willing to read most other genres.

I also like Ready Set Dough.

message 13: by MN Lisa (new)

MN Lisa (lisa713mn) | 1454 comments It looks like "Ready, Set, Dough" is the name of choice?

I'm going to message our last teammate tonight. First call is on Friday. I'm getting excited.

message 14: by Michaele (new)

Michaele | 6264 comments I'm happy with that name - and I am getting excited too.

I will be traveling this weekend, but should be able to see the call.

UnusualChild{beppy} | 1279 comments Hi, I'm here. I was just busy this weekend, and generally don't post on the weekend (unless I absolutely have to) due to having no internet at home and a fairly limited data plan.

UnusualChild{beppy} | 1279 comments I'm Beppy.

I live in Northern (up near the tippy top of the province) British Columbia, in Canada, so right now I am on Pacific Time. However, when the time changes in November, I will be on Mountain Time, as we are one of the areas in Canada that doesn't change time.

Pretty much the only genre I don't read is horror. Within romance, I'm not too thrilled with gang members/murderers being sympathetic people who I'm supposed to be relating to, especially if they don't get punished for their misdeeds.

A few of my favourite romances are Nine Coaches Waiting , Bone Rider, The Prince's Poisoned Vow, Winging It, Trust Me, Public Secrets, Nobody's Baby But Mine, One Time, I Saw Morning Come Home, Stolen Songbird, The Convenient Marriage, Rock Bottom Girl, Paladin's Grace, The Shearing Gun ... To name a few. 😂

I don't have a lot of hobbies that get me out of the house: mostly, I just read or watch tv series/movies on dvd, since I don't have internet or cable/satellite at home.

UnusualChild{beppy} | 1279 comments Oh! I forgot to say that I like Ready Set Dough.

Week #1
Book: The Sweet Gum Tree by Katherine Allred
Rating: 3 stars
Review: I'm sure a less cynical reader would love this one, but it just seemed like too much melodrama to me. This is a story about a second chance love when childhood friends/turned lovers have been apart for 15 years. I think there was just too much "misunderstandings" and unwillingness to just talk that just wore me out. I'm happy that everyone got a good ending though.

Finished: 10/11/24
Rating: 1
Review:
This was rough. I love K.A. Linde's Wright series, so I've been going through the backlist. I'm so glad this wasn't the first one I found, because I may not have read anything else.

I love second chance romance so I was excited for this one. I figured out pretty quick this one wasn't going to work.

Let's just be frank. Jack was an asshole. Straight up. And Lexi was just gullible and really came across as pathetic for me. She let this vile man treat her like shit and keep coming back for more. It was hard to stomach.

But after reading the next two books blurbs, yeah, this series by this author won't work for me so I'm going to walk away from this one.

Week #: 1
Book: Crankshaft by K.M. Neuhold
Date Completed: 10/12/2024
Rating: ***
Review: This one started out good, got slow in the middle and kinda stayed that way. Don't get me wrong its a good book, low relationship drama and all the good things the author is known for, but it just wasn't the book for me (at least at this time. I'm a big mood reader).

Steele is busy with his business, his family and his friends. Porter is busy with his business, his family and his friends. Neither think that they have the time for a relationship, but when Steele volunteers to help Porter with his grandfather's Mustang, they make the time for that, the sexy times that come with it and whoops, I didn't realize I was in a relationship.

Favorite part, no spoilers: Porter: I lie again, sternly reminding myself to protect these emotionally delicate mechanics from the harsh realities of nature.

I was a little dubious about this one starting off but I soon got sucked into this tale of secrets and lies. Cerys returns home pregnant with her husband Luke to stay with her mother, Beth. The problem is that Luke is Beth’s ex-husband and it is soon revealed that he is only there to get what he believes is rightfully his. I felt sorry for Cerys to start with and wanted to slap her to make her see that Luke was lying to her. It wasn’t until the last few chapters that she found her inner strength as the secrets and lies that she has grown up with are uncovered. Normally I would rate this 3* but I am slightly biased due to the accurate description of the location in the Brecon Beacons which are practically on my doorstep.
