Remember folks this is the check in for anybody reading during the hours of NOON until FOUR PM (4PM) on April 25th, 2015 (wherever in the world you are - use your time zone). If you want to get credit for any reading done during these four hours you must check in on this thread - Checkpoint 2.
REMEMBER AT LEAST ONE CHECK-IN MUST REFLECT THE FOLLOWING TO BE COUNTED IN THE READATHON AND OF COURSE YOU MUST CHECK-OUT AT THE END.
Make sure to answer the following:
REMEMBER AT LEAST ONE CHECK-IN MUST REFLECT THE FOLLOWING TO BE COUNTED IN THE READATHON AND OF COURSE YOU MUST CHECK-OUT AT THE END.
Make sure to answer the following:
Name of Book and Author or books and authors:
Genre or genres:
Number of Pages Read - Start Page and Finish Page for this four hour period.
Don't forget the proper citation - just do the best you can and we will assist you.
How much time did you read during this block of time:
Did you complete any books during this time frame and what were they?
Also, your location in the world and timezone

Location: Zagreb, Croatia, CEST

Genre: Ancient history, Biography
Pages read : 39-292 (Book Completed)
Total pages : 254
Books completed : 1
Time: 4 hours
Location : Hyderabad, India - IST
Revanth Ukkalam - you are doing quite well.
a) You have your location and timezone - very good.
b) You tried to add the book cover, and you have the author and author's photo which is very good - it just is the format that you need more work on but you are doing much better.
You always try to add the book cover first, then one blank space, then you type in the word by and then add one more blank space, then you add the author's photo when available and always at the end the author's link which the author's name in linkable text. You seem to know how to add the book cover, you seem to have figured out how to add the author's photo but you do not have the format correct yet and the author's link.
It should look like this:
by
Jacob Abbott
You have the genre.
You have the number of pages read
You should always put down the start page and finish page for each time segment. What you have is one page number but not what page you started the time segment with.
You have the amount of time you read in this segment
Well done on finishing the book - great job and you indicated to me that you had completed the book.
And you did a great job with your location and your timezone.
Just remember that for all of the Six Check-ins - always answer all of these questions:
Make sure to answer the following:

Samantha - you are doing great and you just have to fill in the items that you need to do by the end of the time segment.
The time in Croatia is only 12:58PM so you have quite a bit of time in this time segment to read - this time segment does not end until 4PM.
At about 3:30PM your time - come back in and update and complete message 5 and then you can proceed to Check In - Check Point Three.

Folks everytime we do this we always find folks who want to participate but fail to join and set up their shelves properly so that they can get full credit:
You must join!
Very important:
How To Join In:
Click on the title at the top - The HBC Readathons. Please then join by simply signing in at the bottom and say how many books you plan to read for one or more of the readathon dates - there will be six readathon dates throughout the year; then create your own personal shelf to add the books which you would like to tackle during one readathon or more readathons. That is all there is to it and goodreads will keep track. Become your own marathoner in reading books on the readathon dates and we will keep track of your progress in terms of titles of books, number of books, number of pages, and different genres. Give it a whirl and see how much reading you can get done and take a stab at that big "to be read" pile of books that we all have.
Note: Don't forget to set up your shelf first and then add the name of that shelf here when setting up the challenge for your readathon.
And here are some links to the Readathon folder which will be updated:

I remember saying in college that this was one of my favorite books, but as of this morning I couldn't remember a thing about it, so I figured it was time for a re-read. It's two stories being told parallel -- a molecular biologist just out of grad school in 1957, and a librarian who meets the same scientist (now older) in 1983. When I read it the first time, it was a lot closer to the "now" timeline, but now 1983 (with its "message board" that involves thumb tacks and "computers" that involve microfiche) is seeming more dated than the 1957.
Quote: The scientist "shoos off a soliciting cab, walks to campus. All significant discoveries are made on foot." (p. 45)

Folks, I will give each one of you - one detailed set of directions and corrections for your first Check In - I will ask you to correct the post on Checkpoint One and then to make sure that you make the very same corrections on Checkpoints Two through Six - using the same Check In Template.
Remember there are two templates - one for all of the Checkpoints that are Check Ins for different time slots - in other words Checkpoints One through Six.
The second template - is the Simon Check Out Template which is the Final Tally template and has different items on it as well as totals -
Using the Simon template will make your life easier.
The Check In template if done correctly in Check point One can be copied and pasted and then simply updated throughout all of the Check In templates - one through 6.
I will just note in other threads - two through 6 where you should be and also make sure that though you checked in - it is mandatory to check out on Checkpoint Seven - the only Check Out thread - use the Simon Check Out Template.
On any thread if you are confused - just look at message one and it will show you the template that should be used.

Please let us know who is reading during these this period of time.
Let us know the following:
So for example:
The Jewel in the Crown by Paul Scott
If you finished a book - let us know that too and make sure to get it added to your readathon shelf so you can get credit for it. If it is added properly it will show up on your shelf. You have to make sure to have selected a readathon shelf and when you are done with the first book for your readathon - make sure to add the completed date and that the book is read versus currently reading.
It will show up on your shelf if you have done this properly.
Remember wherever you are you can participate in the readathon.
And if you only have one hour or four hours or plan to do this for the entire 24 hour period taking of course breaks for eating and sleeping - you can join for however long you want to read. We want to keep track of the books completed, the books started, the books in progress, the number of pages read by all, and the different genres. Great fun and this is only the second readathon - we will use the same readathon challenge for all of them so you can see your readathon shelfs grow.
Additionally these books that you complete on the readathon can be added to other shelves for the Japan or India challenge or the 2015 50 Books Challenge or the goodreads yearly challenge - the sky is the limit. Any genre is welcome.
