Hello! My name is Jennefer and I am a bodice ripper addict! LOL As much as I try to read more modern and more "trendy" (paranormal) romance novels I find myself drawn again and again to the old 70's and 80's epic romance novels! I can't get enough of them! I am married with no kids and thankfully I have a fair amount of time to dedicate to reading!

Birthday: 01/25/83 (I missed the bodice rippers in their heyday and am just now starting to discover them!)
What did you have for dinner last night?: Lasagna
What CD/radio station(type of music) is in your car right now?: I am listening to Immortal in Death on audio book in my car right now but the last music CD I listened to in my car was probably Nora Jones.
Favorite childhood memory (briefly): 6 flags!
When/where do you most like to read?: Anytime and everywhere! Most of my reading time is spent curled up on the couch in the living room with my hubby watching TV in the background.
First romance novel read (that you can remember):The Stranger I Married by Silvia Day
Favorite romance couple: At this point I think I am going to go with Eve and Roarke from the In Death series.
Why did you decide to join this group?: Because I am an addict! Help! :)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) Hi, I'm Danielle. I just got invited by a member. I love bodice rippers (except Steve and Ginny, sorry to any fans). Favorite romance novel couple: Dain and Jessica from Lord of Scoundrels by Loretta Chase.
Where do I like to read: My bed, when--whenever I can!
I joined because it's nice to be around other romance novel fans and people who don't look down on bodice rippers, or those of us who enjoy them.

message 6: by [deleted user] (last edited Mar 12, 2010 10:15PM) (new)

Hello, I'm Sharon.
I was born August 1989, so I'm relatively young.

What did you have for dinner last night?: Last night I had some Huddle House food. I think it was the two eggs breakfast.
I do not have a car so nothing, but I just bought A Fine Frenzy CD, love the calm music.
My favourite time to read is on Sunday afternoons on the couch. Nothing like a good lazy Sunday for reading
Darcy and Elizabeth from Pride and Prejudice. I know that it is clique but I just love how they get together. You know that they will have some steamy arguments that will led to some making up time. lol!
I mostly joined this group to find some good romance novels. Lately, I feel like I can't seem to find ones with the right amount of sexual tension.Very sad, but one can never go wrong with bodice rippers. ^_^

message 7: by KimKirt (new)

KimKirt | 20 comments Hello! I'm Kim, and thanks for the invite Jennefer! Here is my confession, I became a romance novel addict by swiping my mom's books when I was a young teenager living at home and hiding them under my mattress. I had about 10 books under there when my mom eventually found out (she sat on my bed and felt lumps). Ha ha! I was hooked ever since. However, I did take a hiatus for a while after I got married and had a kid. I practically grew up on all Kathleen Woodiwiss' novels.

Birthday: Dec. 29th

What did you have for dinner last night?: A Tuna Melt

What CD/radio station(type of music) is in your car right now?: I listen to Country because that's the only station we get here, but I have Kid Rock, Van Halen and other classic rockers in my car (well, on CD).

Favorite childhood memory (briefly): Getting my first cat when I was 6 years old.

When/where do you most like to read?: At night after the guys are in bed and I have the house to myself. Snuggled on the couch in the living room.

First romance novel read (that you can remember): I think it was "The Flame and the Flower" by Kathleen Woodiwiss, for the longest time I wanted to name my kids "Heather" and "Brandon".

Favorite romance couple: See above.

Why did you decide to join this group?: Because Jennefer invited me and I like her!! ;-)

message 20: by Maddie (new)

Maddie | 7 comments Hi! My name is Maddie birthday August 30. Last nite we had corn beef. I have Chris Isaak in my Disk Drive. My favorite genre is Historical Romance and the books of that category from the 70s, 80s and 90s are my favorites. I think my first was the the Wolf and the Dove by Woodiwiss. I much prefer the older books over the newer Historical Romance since I love Un-PC and get irritated when characters exhibit 21st Century behavior. I joined because I love Bodice Rippers and will not hide or apologize. My favorite couple is Lucy and Johnny from Cheyenne Caress by Georgina Gentry.

Maddie wrote: "I much prefer the older books over the newer Historical Romance since I love Un-PC and get irritated when characters exhibit 21st Century behavior."

That's exactly why I like them better, too. Can be ugly and uncomfortable, but it's more historically accurate. The 19th c. newspapers I've read through doing various research has so much casual sexism/racism that you can only wonder what was expressed in private.

I know, I read a review on this site (not this group) on Kathleen Woodiwiss' The Flame and the Flower and the reviewer gave it one star going on and on about how he 'raped' her and I kept thinking to myself that the reviewer lost the whole point of the storyline there and all. Sigh! I LOVE that book and the way it was written.

I'll admit that when I read The Flame and the Flower, I was a bit "overwhelmed" by the hardcoreness of it and didn't much like it. However, since I've read other bodice rippers and have gotten into the mood of them, so to speak, I'm going to give F&tF a re-read. It was all a matter of mood, I think.

Hi Julia, glad to have you here! Hopefully you find some great rec's!

Hi Angelique! *Waves* Thanks for joining us! :)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) Okay, I don't get why it's cool for a hero to use and discard numerous women like toilet paper, but it's so much worse for him to forcefully seduce the heroine. A lot of the new heroes are complete manho Dukes of Sluts, even though they may not be 'rapists.' If the issue is misogyny, then they are both bad, right? I hope I don't get slammed for posting this.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) I hate that double standard. I'm not a fan of promiscuous heroines, but I don't like promiscuous heroes, either. So I'm equal opportunity.

message 34: by Love love (new)

Love love | 120 comments Hi I'm Noelle. I love a good bodice ripper! I only just discovered them a few months ago and I can't seem to get enough lol.

Best childhood memory:vacations with the family
Were do I like to read best:I will read anywere but I love to read outside while we are camping at the lake
First romance that I read: Linda Howard's Mr.Perfect
I joined this site because I love the old bodice rippers and I hope that I will find more titles here to read. :)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) I've never read Bertrice Small (well the naughty parts, yes). I tend to avoid the saga books. I like the books that start and end with one book when it comes to romance.

Noelle, I've been craving asparagus lately.

Danielle "The Book Huntress" wrote: "I like the books that start and end with one book when it comes to romance."

Considering my recent bad luck in accidentally getting "2nd book and later" of series, I'm fast coming to the same conclusion. :P

message 37: by Love love (new)

Love love | 120 comments Danielle, so was I and it was very good.lol
As far as Bertrice Small, I have only read her books "The Love Slave" and "The Border Lord's Bride". Both were stand alone books(someone let me know if I'm wrong)so you might want to try those. And yes she is very good with the naughty parts :)

I think Border Lord's Bride is part of a series.

Most of her early stuff is standalone, bar the Skye O'Malley stuff. Enchantress Mine, Beloved, Adora, Unconquered, A Moment in Time, The Spitfire... Blaze Wyndham has a "sequel" of sorts, but it'd be fine to just stick with the first one.

message 39: by Love love (new)

Love love | 120 comments Thanks Karla. I had to go and find "The Border Lord's Bride" just to see, and of course your right. lol Just opening the cover, it was listed there as #2 out of 3. So I guess I just made Danielle's point about getting a book and finding out it's a second out of a series. :)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) I hate when I get the second or later book in a series!

message 41: by Love love (new)

Love love | 120 comments I know. I just did that with Catherine Coulters "Devil's Embrace" and "Devil's Daughter". I read the second one first, and what's worse is that I had the first one in my TBR pile and didn't even know it. Both are really good BR by the way.

I did that with Marsha Canham's 3rd Robin Hood book. Didn't think it was a series because there was NOTHING on the book to indicate it was. I still enjoyed it, though, and didn't think there was something "missing." I'll catch up on the earlier ones sometime.

Wendy, Lady Evelyn Quince (ladyevelynquince) | 245 comments Hello. What a great group!
My name is Wendy, I'm a Libra, born on 10-08-1977.
I actually made turkey, gravy, potatoes and stuffing last night! The huge nor'easter that hit a few days ago took out power and I had to cook the meat that defrosted in the freezer.
I have no CDS in my car, as I no longer have a car. It was smashed by a fallen transformer in the storm! If there were any CD's, it might be Depeche Mode or some romantic Latin American crooner (Marc Anthony, Ricardo Montaner).
Favorite childhood memory (briefly): When I was 16 I went to see The Lion King with my 4 younger siblings. We were poor and going to the movies was a huge luxury. I spent all that week's earnings from a summer job. We had to walk in the humid heat for three miles back and forth to the movie theater.
When/where do you most like to read?:On the bed or the couch when everybody else is asleep!
First Romance: Spell of the Mountains, Rosalie Henaghan;
First Historical Romance:Escape Not, My Love by Elaine Coffman
Favorite romance couple: Norah & Rory from Dana Ransom's Dakota Promises & Dakota Destiny.
Why did you decide to join this group?: I love old-school romance novels.

Wendy, Lady Evelyn Quince (ladyevelynquince) | 245 comments Jeanine wrote: "I love Bodice Rippers and find that all these newer PC romance books just fall short and I also hate that when I say I love one of them I get attacked by other ladies who say they are trash. Finally a place where we can share the best!"

Jeanine, Hello! I agree. It's so sad some people so meanly deride the "oldies". To me, the older romances had more actual romance. Purple prose aside, I find them better written as well. I don't like the paranormal/vampire/menage/etc. books that abound today, but I don't knock people for liking them.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) People can be pretty judgmental about other's tastes.
