I've heard that Covet doesn't appeal to everyone as far as Ward fans. It's possible that I won't like it, but chances are pretty good that I will. I love the whole fallen angel, bad guy as the hero theme.

Covet was okay but not nearly as good as the Brotherhood books, imo. The storyline was a little confusing at first but once it straightens out its pretty interesting.

You know I am a big JR Ward fan! But I didn't think Dark Lover was that romantic. I thought it was interesting, and I was sucked in enough to continue the series.
It's been my experience that the first book in most series is really the least successful ones.
This is my observation: the JR Ward fans seem to fall in three camps:
1)Those who like the first books better
2)Those who like the later books better
3)Those who love all the books the same
I'm in camp two. The reason why is because I didn't get drawn into the series for the romance. I loved the worldbuilding and the society and intrigue of Dark Lover. I love the romances in the later books, but I never fell for Beth and Wrath (until Lover Avenged.) I'm not a big Rhage fan, although I did like Mary and I admit it was a romantic story. Lover Awakened was the first book in the series where the romance clicked with me. I'm one of the fans who will probably read every thing she writes because I really like her books and her writing. I can see why others complain about her, but it doesn't bother me, because she always brings an enthralling reading experience for me. I don't see my love for her changing.
From what I've heard, Covet isn't romance. It's urban fantasy with a romance. I'm totally cool with that. I have different expectations for different genres. If I read an UF book and it has a good romance, then it's a fringe benefit.

I think I would fall in to catergory 3) I love every book, but each one has a different thing I like about it and ineitably I have favourites as well.
I didn't think That Dark Lover was that romantic either, but Wrath and Beth are my favourite couple. I think the Rhage and Marys book was the most romantic, followed by Butch and Marissa. Phurys book I found the most heartbreaking, but also had lot of world building in. I have to say I didn't connect so well with LU, as I have never really warmed to V.
I can kind of see why people complain about her books, but I love the characters and find the world she has created so interetsing that her idiosyncrasies don't bother me that much.
I'm the same way, Suzanne. Every author has their quirks. Most of my fave authors have plenty. Heck, I'm quirky myself, so I don't let that bother me.

Have you read the insiders guide and what they did on valentines day? Rhage getting cake icing and writing MARYS LOVE BUG on his chest (or something similar, there was definately love bug there somewhere) LOL that made me laugh so much.

But it change when i read Lover Enshrined.
Phury's book is not work for me, i thik Ward has changed her writing style.
And sorry, i feel uncomfortable with Qhuinn-Blaylock relationship (i'm not into m/m relationship :( )
It change a bit well when i read Lover Avenged, love what Ward did to Wrath-Beth (and i skip Qhuay scene and Lash, sorry for team Qhuay :( )
I still not read Lover Mine yet, but i promise i'll read it. That book in my must to read list this year.
I like the BDB companion too^^
My fave is the message board and i really love the story "Knitting Anonymous" (poor V, really2 bad Rhage, lol)

I'm in the minority, but I loved Lover Enshrined. It was painful to read, because I hate drug abuse. But, it was honest and real. I think Phury is very under-appreciated. But that's just me.

Crystal- No I don't think there are any shorts on Rhage, however there is some message board things in which he features quite a bit and a section about Lover Eternal.

I loved it to, although not because of Phury. =/ I loved all of the side stories and world building in that one - it's my second favorite after LAv.
Autumn wrote: "I like Phury, but I just wanted to slap him during LE. Oh, and give him a few choice words which I'm not sure I'm allowed to type here. He seemed so wishy washy over Cormia and the Primale stuff."
Phury had some bigtime issues. He wasn't the most romantic guy. Good thing that Cormia loved him unconditionally, which is what he really needed. I'd like to see more of Phury and Cormia as a happy couple.

DarkHeart, knowing you, I definitely can see what you liked about LEn. Oh, I don't know, Qhuinn/Blay/John Matthew, maybe? :)

The Qhuinn/Blay/JM bits were good aswell, is it in LEn that Qhuinn and Blay have the kiss?

I agree with you Suzanne, about Phury and Cormia. The kiss does occur in LEn. That was a powerful scene.

I think Qhuinn and Blay should be together. I admit, I really like Blay with Sax for now. I think Blay needs some love and to feel wanted and appreciated, and Qhuinn isn't doing that for him right now.

I think Qhuinn deserves to squirm with jealous after all the squirming he made Blay do, so I'm with you. I am so buying their book.

He definately deserves to squirm and although I get why he doesn't want to be with Blay and face all the social stigma I still think he treated Blay poorly by having sex so blatantly infront of him when he knows how Blay feels about him.

Ward is like crack. You know it's not good for you but you can't help doing it anyway. I bitch about her crazy worldbuilding, the ridiculous slang and product placement, her what the hell is that writing style and the scary people on the message board all the time but dammit I'm hooked.
