Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (awesomevegan) | 468 comments I seen one like this a few months back in Paranormal Romance. It was a monthly challenge so that is where I got my inspiration:

Duration August 1st - December 31st, 2010
Read 10 books with the following creature as one of the main characters (or love interest)

1. Vampire
2. Werewolf
3. non-wolf shifter
4. sea creature (mermaid ect.)
5. angel (good or bad)
6. demon
7. fae or fairy
8. human with paranormal abilities (like Sookie for example) Gods or demigods fall in this category.
9. hobbit, gnome, dwarf or little person of some kind
10. ghost, zombie, spirit or someone "back from the dead"

BONUS or ALTERNATE: Read one book with a character who is half human/half animal such as centaur, satyr, faun etc. This can be a main character or smaller character for this one.

If there are any questions please just ask.

Re-reads are okay.
They do not have to ALL be PNR/UF but MOST should be. The main focus of the challenge is the creatures.
You can post a list or post as you go and you can change your list at any time.
Cross challenging is a-ok :)

***EDIT***If you are having a particularly hard time with any category you can use supporting characters. Please try to make MOST of the categories the main character/love because it will make it interesting for people looking for reads in those categories, for example if someone LOVES mermaids or angels etc. :)

YAY :) I hope so. I think it shouldn't be too hard if you read a lot of PNR books anyway. I know I will have a challenge with some but thats the fun part, finding ones that work. Maybe people can even recommend books to each other. I hope you have fun if you join in.

Steph (angel4492) | 32370 comments Good one, AV. :) I might join in also.

Diane ~Firefly~ | 913 comments I'm in, but I'll wait until a little closer to August to post my list.

Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (awesomevegan) | 468 comments I am glad I have some takers. :) As I said though, I got the inspiration from the PNR group. I don't recall them having all of the ones I have listed. I don't think there was a specific sea creature one... or little person one. I am not sure about the half-human/half animal one. Either way it was inspired by that challenge so I can't take full credit. I seen a few mermaid ones in the listopia for blue books. I can't remember what they were called though.

Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (awesomevegan) | 468 comments For Kindle users, Undine (in English) is a free pd title:

It will qualify for "sea creature"
If there are any other Kindle users let me know. I will be looking for free or cheap reads for some of these categories.

For your bonus category, this would work as the hero is a minotaur. I just read it recently, so I'll have to find something else.

Thanks for the tip! I am in that group too. I hope some people in both groups will check out the lists and this challenge! :)

Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (awesomevegan) | 468 comments Lots of nice lists! I can't wait for the reading to begin! Valorie... that is one SEXY satyr! :)

I would have joined Shelly Rae for Linger... but I couldn't stand to wait! I finished it in 4 days. More like 3 1/2. I bought it at night time. It was really good.

Laura Lulu (lauralulu) | 1603 comments I might be in, I have to see if I can find a book with a pint-sized main character or love interest. I found books with a character like that as a supporting character, but not as the main or love interest. :(

I would say to make up a list of all the other ones and see what other people pick for that category. I will probably be reading the Hobbit or The Fellowship of the Ring for that one. It isn't romance but it has been on my TBR list for years. I am sure others can help us create a listopia for pint sized characters?

message 29: by Laura Lulu (new)

Laura Lulu (lauralulu) | 1603 comments That's the plan. :) I have a book to read where the main character is an elf, but I don't think she's little--but I won't know until I read it. :)

Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (awesomevegan) | 468 comments This Amazon list (for young readers) may or may not be interesting for those looking pint sized character books:

I edit if I find more.

Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (awesomevegan) | 468 comments I also found: What Do You Say to a Naked Elf? by Cheryl Sterling which may be humorous and entertaining?

Also The Nights Before Christmas by Kerry Allen which sounds interesting. Maybe a good holiday read?

Both of these are on Kindle. I don't know about print.

Post at any time you want or just post as you go. Challenge starts in August so you still have time to decide your first book. :)

Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (awesomevegan) | 468 comments I found one that sounds really good for ghost/spirit:
A Certain Slant of Light by Laura Whitcomb . I stumbled across it by accident from a list of recommended books after Twilight (Twilight, #1) by Stephenie Meyer .

Here is the list if anyone is interested:
