Audrey Henning Well, there is not a whole lot of time left in this month, so I'm going to go with something easy. I choose:

Melissa ♥ Dog/Wolf Lover ♥ Martin Whew! I finished mine. I was wondering if I would there for a minute since I got into a book slump and dealing with some issues! 0_0

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Stephanie | 194 comments Merry Christmas! And congratulations to Melissa!

I just started on "The Three Muskateers" yesterday. Crossing my fingers that I make it by the end of the month. Once done with that, I will have finished my tiny word :)

I was looking at some of the past posts- SNOWFLAKES and MERRY CHRISTMAS seem absolutely daunting. Good luck to everyone who is still doing it! (Whatever your word may be).

Melissa ♥ Dog/Wolf Lover ♥ Martin Thank you Stephanie! :-) I know you will get yours done too. The only reason I just "had" to pick snowflake is that I love snowflakes. :-D I know, I'm silly. But thank goodness I got them done!

I love this challenge, even though this was my first time!

Good luck

message 109: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie | 194 comments Next December I will attempt Snowman- I feel like I will be more prepared for it then :) Might be another year after that before I attempt the Snowflake. Still, I am super impressed. December is crazy.

Melissa ♥ Dog/Wolf Lover ♥ Martin It sure is and the weather here is wiping people out :-( it doesn't even seem like Christmas! We are going to have rains and storms all week and the weather going back up to the 70's. I just want my cold weather and a real Christmas. There was a mention of possible tornadoes!! It's Winter people please. I just hope me and the fam can have a good Christmas together and not sitting in the dark or wiped out by a tornado :-/

It was a fun challenge, although I got a reading slump right and the end and thought I wouldn't finish. Whew :-)

My cousin lived in Tennessee for a while and tornadoes suck. So, hopefully you don't get one. That would be awful! In Eastern Washington, we definitely have snow and super strong winds to boot (like strong enough to blow over our snowman). So, it very much feels like winter. However, we have a car trip planned for the day after Christmas, so I am hoping we don't slide out on the way over. Either way, weather-wise, I think there are down sides. Hopefully you have a good Christmas anyway.

Melissa ♥ Dog/Wolf Lover ♥ Martin You have a good Christmas Stephanie! Don't slide or blow away!

I'm going to move in with Santa where it's cold all year and you get presents every day :-D

message 115: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie | 194 comments I did it! Today was the last day I could, and I did! Take that holidays! :)

Melissa ♥ Dog/Wolf Lover ♥ Martin WAHOOO! I knew you could do it :-)

message 117: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie | 194 comments By the way, in case you were wondering, "The Three Musketeers" is a LONG book. 700 pages of antiquated language does not make for quick reading. I feel better though. I hate leaving challenges unfinished.

Melissa ♥ Dog/Wolf Lover ♥ Martin I love Big Books, but whew, not for the end of the year challenge! Congrats to you. I have a ton of big tome books on my challenges for this coming year, well tomorrow. LOL I don't know what I was thinking putting all of those on there, they are from 400 to over 1000 page books. 0_0

Well done Stephanie!

You know, The Three Musketeers is my guilty pleasure book Probably because first few times I've read it, it was translation (Croatian) so there was no problem with language. Now, when reading in English, it does take me longer.

Welcome to the group, Allecyn!
If you need help with the group, you might check our Start Here part.
As for challenges, there is a list of them (here). Only yearly challenges are getting new threads each year. But you can join all challenges whenever you want. For example, even if this one says December in it's title, if you like it and want to do it, you can play it in any other month.

Hope that helps :)

Thanks! I really enjoyed the back half of it and a section in the first third. The antiquated language is the whole reason i challenged myself with reading it in the first place (I kind of wish I could read French the way I can read Spanish, it is probably super fun in the original language)- I fell like it stretches my brain. Now when I go back to more modern books it will go that much faster.

Besides, it was on the Boxall's List and I am determined to read at least most of those books (if not all of them) over my lifetime. As I have only read 36 of them and I am 31 years old, I better get cracking :)

Also you can look into things like the Pop Sugar Challenge (google it and it will come up, or some other discussion groups are doing it). The Pop Sugar Challenge is good because it actually tries to stretch your reading interests. I definitely recommend it.

Right? I have on my to read list for 2016: Little Women (which hopefully will be quick reading, I know people who read that when they were in third and fourth grade), Jane Eyre, Gone with the Wind, the Bell Jar and Jurassic Park. I'm sure there are others I am forgetting, but I read "The Three Musketeers" and suddenly began to doubt myself in adding those particular books. I think Gone with the Wind is 1400 pages or something ridiculous.

Technically, my goal is to read 52 books this year. However, to complete all of the challenges I have set for myself, I need to read at least 125. I can imagine that will be more difficult with the giants in there, but I like the challenge. I write a lot (I am actually trying to get published), so it makes sense that I would read a lot too, and I never feel like I read as much as I should. Sigh. Conundrums. Still, I am looking forward to trying even if I fail spectacularly. :)
