Agnieszka T. (enga) | 727 comments 49. Il destino di Adhara by Licia Troisi - it was more interesting than I've expected. Even though the plot is generally really used up - still it was curiously done, with characteristic heroes. And it's ending in such a way that I can just wait impatiently for the next books ;)

Agnieszka T. (enga) | 727 comments 50. Dewey The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World by Vicki Myron - what a marvelous story! Cat, library, positive influence of the cat on people - great combination for a cat lover! And in addition it's written in a simple, warm, moving way. It was a really great read, it was really touching my heart and I've finished reading totally tearful!

Agnieszka T. (enga) | 727 comments 51. Ksiądz Rafał. Niespokojne czasy by Maciej Grabski - I'm not objective in the case of this and previous book of this author ;) Wonderful, idealistic, positive, warm, wise story about people and life. It's an amazing read, pulling at the heartstrings. I'm really curious what the author will do now - continue the story or write something new.

Agnieszka T. (enga) | 727 comments 52. Sandry's Book by Tamora Pierce - first book of a cycle about 4 kids, which have a magic capability and thanks to that they meet in one place, where they can develop their talents. Very nice read, which carry a lot of good emotions and values, which should be promoted in the literature for kids and youth. I'll read next three books with a pleasure.

Agnieszka T. (enga) | 727 comments 53. The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri - an interesting story related with identity, society, family, relationships. It's a good read, it convinced me to itself and to try another books of this author :)

message 56: by Agnieszka T. (new)

Agnieszka T. (enga) | 727 comments 54. The Darkest Room by Johan Theorin - I was expecting another "typical" Swedish crime story and I've got a surprise! It's a novel with threads related with crime, love, manners. Dark, "stuffy", full of wind, snow, fear, longing, questions. I had a big surprise, until the end of reading I didn't know what to think about it.

Agnieszka T. (enga) | 727 comments 55. The Iron King by Maurice Druon - very well written and very addictive story of the cause of Knights Templar and its implications for Philip IV of France and his court. I'm delighted how ably Druon created characters in this book and how - in such a short novel - he build a reach story. I really wanna read the rest of the series.

Agnieszka T. (enga) | 727 comments 56. Dewey's Nine Lives: The Legacy of the Small-Town Library Cat Who Inspired Millions by Vicki Myron - it's not a "high literature", but it's a set of really bitter and interesting stories about human and cats fates, mutual relations and influences. Wonderful stories, absorbing, a bit moving, a bit funny, very true. My favorites (I don't know how the translation fits into original) are Christmas Cat and Cookie :)

message 59: by Agnieszka T. (new)

Agnieszka T. (enga) | 727 comments 57. Night Embrace (Dark-Hunter, #2) by Sherrilyn Kenyon - very interesting story, more interesting than in the [Night Pleasures], very well intertwined real world with a world of mythology. I like the characters a lot, so I hope that in the future books they will also occur :) And even there was a bit less sex than in the previous book, what I actually count as a plus ;)

message 60: by Agnieszka T. (new)

Agnieszka T. (enga) | 727 comments 58. Dni ciemności by Rainer M. Schröder - an ok novella, as I would not call it novel. I see in it potential for a "bigger" novel, but just by itself is on a good level. An interesting ideas, good descriptions.
59. Love the One You're With by Emily Giffin - I think it's the worse book of this author until now. I like when characters are kindle emotions in me, but this was overkill! The main female character was acting like totally stupid! Gosh, being in such age and acting and thinking like that? It's not convincing me at all. And doing it while having Andy as a husband it's not understandable for me at all. And what even worse - not talking with him at all about her feelings and needs, wow... This all together had a result - I did not like this book almost at all.

Agnieszka T. (enga) | 727 comments 60. The Bad Mother's Handbook by Kate Long - read with a pleasure. A story of fates of grandmother, mother and daughter and their lifes, interdependence, good and bad choices, love, anger, mercy, growing up, adolescence. This women survived and are surviving a lot, but still try to maneuver their lives the best possible.

message 62: by Agnieszka T. (new)

Agnieszka T. (enga) | 727 comments 61. Kanalia by Paweł Pollak - quite interesting first book of this author. Well, at the beginning I had impression that it's a bit crude, but then this impression disappeared. The final meeting of the policeman and the guilty one I like a lot. And the ending again brought me surprise :)

message 63: by Agnieszka T. (new)

Agnieszka T. (enga) | 727 comments 62. Matched by Ally Condie - I like the idea of romance in the utopian state. Condie create a world with interesting characteristics, there is pretty some diversity in relation with the construction of the Society. I wonder how it'll develop in the next two books.

message 64: by Agnieszka T. (new)

Agnieszka T. (enga) | 727 comments 63. The Inner Circle by Mari Jungstedt - third book about the inspector Knutas. This time a mysterious murders, archeology, robberies, gods. Good crime story, but did not arouse bigger emotions in me.

message 65: by Agnieszka T. (new)

Agnieszka T. (enga) | 727 comments 64. Poczekajka by Katarzyna Michalak - it's hard to translate the title, it's a name of the village, but it's related with waiting - very nice fairy tale about love ;) It's reassuring, it's funny, in some moments naive or maybe a little silly, but so warm! It's a really good read for the moments of dejection in feeling, hump. And these animals, ZOO, gallops on black and white horses :D

message 66: by Agnieszka T. (new)

Agnieszka T. (enga) | 727 comments 65. żdz by Jakub Małecki - the title is a wordplay with a name of the writer [[Joseph Conrad]] - what a nutty story! Applause for the imagination, "succulent" language, combination of so called high and low culture, text full of emotions and causing emotions, very interesting and unique book. I wish it would be translated into English!

message 67: by Agnieszka T. (new)

Agnieszka T. (enga) | 727 comments 66. Minotaur by Benjamin Tammuz - fascinating study of love, even obsession, relationships, clash of romanticism and rationalism. And in addition - through the eyes of the characters - we can see the formation of Israel. Very interesting, but sometimes a bit tiresome.

message 68: by Agnieszka T. (new)

Agnieszka T. (enga) | 727 comments 67. Kompozytor burz by Andres Pascual - "The Composer of Storms" - an amazing story about searching of the melody of the soul. Very interesting concept, good writing. For sure it's nothing secondary, at least not for me.

message 69: by Agnieszka T. (new)

Agnieszka T. (enga) | 727 comments 68. Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury - I have a problem with this book. The idea for the plot is amazing - dystopia deprived of culture, where thinking is spayed, books are burned, one dimension life. But something is disturbing me in the way how it's written and I don't even know what!

message 70: by Agnieszka T. (new)

Agnieszka T. (enga) | 727 comments 69. 44 Scotland Street by Alexander McCall Smith - a bit more than an average chick-lit, but this time not "chick", but in the style of novel of manners. Is there any name in English for a easy read, bringing nothing special to you than fun? It's focusing on a few people, their life, desires, fears. Pleasant read for a short moment.

Agnieszka T. (enga) | 727 comments 70. Cudze życie by Frédérique Deghelt - very interesting book about a woman, who lost her memory day-to-day. She erased 12 years of her life in this way. One day she woke up as a 25 years old young woman, who is just starting to date her partner and doesn't have any kids, at least that's what she thinks when she is waking up...

Agnieszka T. (enga) | 727 comments 71. God's Mountain by Erri De Luca - I have a small chaos in my mind right now, I can't clearly write my opinion. Bewitching, lightly magic, full of life and adolescence book. It's a first book of this author which I've read, but I think it'll not be the last one.

message 75: by Agnieszka T. (new)

Agnieszka T. (enga) | 727 comments 72. Kara by Maja Wolny - I'm not fully convinced by this book, it's good, but while being so focused on emotions it did not arouse them in me. It's good, but without fireworks ;)

message 76: by Agnieszka T. (new)

Agnieszka T. (enga) | 727 comments 73. Sorry by Zoran Drvenkar - an amazing idea, great writing, driving me crazy each time when I needed to leave this book, an incredibly nutty plot, I needed to be focused while reading, great work! I hope for more books translated into Polish.

message 77: by Agnieszka T. (new)

Agnieszka T. (enga) | 727 comments 74. The Guardian Angel's Journal by Carolyn Jess-Cooke - another delight :) Incredible story of people and angels, a great "stepping stone" from all these "paranormal" romance and wreck angels, here angels are simply guardian angels, but it's really well constructed and written, really interesting and bitter book.

Agnieszka T. (enga) | 727 comments 75. Niebo nad Maralal by Christina Hachfeld-Tapukai - "Sky above Maralal. My life as a wife of Samburu-warrior. - an interesting story of the life of a German lady who married a Samburu-warrior and moved to Kenya. Author try to be objective, to see two sides of each situation, she is curiously describing life such a different than the one she had in Germany. All the time I had a feeling that it's strange that there is almost nothing about the beginning of their common life and just now I saw that this book is a second book in the cycle ;)

message 79: by Agnieszka T. (new)

Agnieszka T. (enga) | 727 comments 76. Judasz całował wspaniale by Maria Papathanasopulu - "Judas was kissing great - it's really average book, but even worse - it's full of really dumb characters who droved me nuts! I don't even know how many times I wanted to through the book on the wall! ;) Clumsy style, badly written dialogues and these irritating characters it's just too much for me ;)

message 80: by Agnieszka T. (new)

Agnieszka T. (enga) | 727 comments 77. Hand Full Of Stars by Rafik Schami - well written story about live in Damascus. Thourgh the eyes of the teenager we can see the real life, political fights, poverty, changes of the government, but also more private things - first love, adolescence, friendship, sadness. Interesting book.

message 81: by Agnieszka T. (new)

Agnieszka T. (enga) | 727 comments 78. Pustynna Włócznia, ks.II by Peter V. Brett - in Polish version we have 2 parts instead of one book - really good follow-up of the first part. Brett definitely knows how to write a good and interesting fantasy books. Now, I just wonder how it'll be developed, as I can't believe it can finish like that ;)

message 82: by Agnieszka T. (new)

Agnieszka T. (enga) | 727 comments 79. Juliet by Anne Fortier - an interesting alternative story of Juliet and Romeo and also its' continuation until nowadays. It's not a "high literature", but I read it with pleasure, it gave me a good entertainment.

Agnieszka T. (enga) | 727 comments 80. Making Jack Falcone: An Undercover FBI Agent Takes Down a Mafia Family by Joaquin "Jack" Garcia - I gave it a good rate because of the fact that it's a true story, very interesting relation of the FBI agent. Unfortunately, I don't know why it made me bone-tired while reading, I actually don't really know why - was it because of the other stories included into this book, which were not needed in my opinion? Or maybe the person who was helping to this guy write this book did not succeed to create a more "reader-friendly" style? Just the book did not involve me.

Agnieszka T. (enga) | 727 comments 81. Bez pożegnania by Barbara Rybałtowska - "Without farewell" - a bitter story about a experiences of a woman, who survived II World War wandering around Soviet Union and many other countries, who lost her husband at the beginning of the war, most of the family later and to whom the closest living person was her little daughter, woman who needed to do really a lot to survive and feed herself and her kid, a though story about surviving. I'm really curious about what will happen in next 3 books of this cycle. I'm sorry it's not translated into English.

message 85: by Agnieszka T. (new)

Agnieszka T. (enga) | 727 comments 82. ŚɾԾDz by Magda Szabó - what a "stuffy" and uncheerfull novel! Everything is wrong, only bad things happen to characters, and actually they are also nasty. Especially I didn't like two main charakters - Pólika and Csutak. But this all together is not changing the fact, that it's really well written book.

message 86: by Agnieszka T. (new)

Agnieszka T. (enga) | 727 comments 83. Purple Hibiscus by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie - there is nothing too less or too much in this book, it's fine balanced, spare in style story of love and hate, executioner and his victims, family, religion, situation in Nigeria. Very well written book.

Agnieszka T. (enga) | 727 comments 84. Upadły Anioł by Mari Jungstedt - Polish title is "Fallen Angel" - after reading 4 book of this series I think I can say already: her books are accurate, sometimes even quite good, but she is far from the masters of crime stories ;)

message 88: by Agnieszka T. (new)

Agnieszka T. (enga) | 727 comments 85. No cóż, za moich czasów... by Klára Fehér - very interesting book, in a light way is carrying not a light matters. Under simple home, school and love adventure of a teenager we're learning for example also about II World War, living in Hungary then, discrimination against Jews. A book in a old, nice style :)

message 89: by Agnieszka T. (new)

Agnieszka T. (enga) | 727 comments 86. Ród Aszura by نجيب محفوظ - - another great book of this author. Already [Midaq Alley] was bewitching and this book is fabulous :) Mafhuz is using a wonderful language, is painting with words, creating such interesting character. And in addition it's a family saga and it's even greater pleasure, bravo!

message 90: by Agnieszka T. (new)

Agnieszka T. (enga) | 727 comments 87. Namiestniczka by Wiera Szkolnikowa - indeed, I can agree on the accusation that it's a "slow" book, but it did not disturb me + for me it was not soooo slow as for the other people. I like this "adult" fantasy, which in a big part is a story about power, politics, fights in the Governors' court, ruling an empire. There is no strange creatures (ok, there are Elfs, but there are not so much appearing in this book), there is no "waving" the sword around. There is pretty some thinking, talking and a bit emotions.

message 91: by Agnieszka T. (new)

Agnieszka T. (enga) | 727 comments 88. Manikiur dla nieboszczyka by Daria Doncowa - it's nothing serious, a light crime story with a bit of humor, giving a god entertainment to the reader. I'll not write anything about the plot, but I think it's worth of reading when you feel, you need a light book. It was good to read it and I'll for sure get to the rest of her books.

message 92: by Agnieszka T. (last edited May 27, 2011 11:04AM) (new)

Agnieszka T. (enga) | 727 comments 89. Paranormalcy by Kiersten White - it's such a great book for it's category (which is a light entertainment mostly for young people). A bit "crock", very girlish main character, a lot of paranormal creatures, bad Elfs, being in love, fighting for live, this combination is a recipe for success! All this "Hush, Hush"-kind-of-books can hide themselves versus this one!

90. Lockdownby Alexander Gordon Smith - another good book for young people. The world where characters are send is cruel and strange, but this books is sending a clear message related with good, helping each other, friendship, persistence, sacrifice. But it's finishing in such a way, that I have a desire to bite! No one should finish book like that if I don't even know when the next one will be here ;)

Agnieszka T. (enga) | 727 comments 91. ҴśԾ by Andrzej Kozioł - I don't know an English word for that, something like a wide road, but it was used mostly in older times, when people where travelling longer etc. This is a story full of melancholy about lapse of time. Virgin Brought by Woter, Guardian of this road is a kept in a small shrine next to the road. She is watching people passing, listening to their news, look at constant changes. Years are passing, world is changing more and more, is there still place fo such Virgins?

message 94: by Agnieszka T. (new)

Agnieszka T. (enga) | 727 comments 92. Abandon by Meg Cabot - an interesing story of a teenager and a guardian of souls, story of a diamond of Persephone, Furies, connected with nowadays and life of American teens. I wonder how it will be developed in next books.

message 95: by Agnieszka T. (new)

Agnieszka T. (enga) | 727 comments 93. Gaumardżos! Opowieści z Gruzji by Anna Dziewit-Meller and Marcin Meller - Gaumaradjos(?): stories from Georgia - it's a really good book, I experieced a lot of emotions while reading, totally subjective story, full of emotions which Georgia is and was causing in authors, very testy story, but also sometimes scary, touchy, sad and wonderful. It passed the exam of being "book for travelling"
94. Namiestniczka #2 by Wiera Szkolnikowa - it seems that the rule of the 2nd book in trilogies is right ;) Or maybe it's jut because that so many threads were opened and so less were closed and now I don't have a clue why they appeared and for what it's needed. Now, I'm realllllly curious how she will close this trilogy.

Andrea - eeeee... no, just 43 Hihihiihi ;)

95. The Double-Edged Sword: The Nowhere Chronicles Book One by Sarah Silverwood - cool idea, different worlds were already used many times, but in this book we've got a combination which I've never knew, so I like it :) It's good - because it's mostly targeted on youth - that's there is a lot of focus on good behaviors and attitudes likes: loyalty, fidelity, friendship, responsibility etc.

message 97: by Agnieszka T. (new)

Agnieszka T. (enga) | 727 comments * For Your Own Good: Hidden Cruelty in Child-Rearing and the Roots of Violence by Alice Miller - I gave up reading, it's not for me, I read half and I will not continue. The examples used are extremely interesting, terrifying, but it's not my specialization and all these information between examples are not so interesting for me to motivate me to read the whole one.

Agnieszka T. (enga) | 727 comments 96. Trucicielka by Éric-Emmanuel Schmitt - I can't help that: I like books of Schmitt and that's all ;) I don't look for the "life truth" in them, I just like his style, I'm convinced with emotions, these are 4 nice short novels + a small part of authors' journal.

Agnieszka T. (enga) | 727 comments 97. Claudine at School by Colette - what an enjoyable story :) Long time passed since I read such hm... "school-for-girls-in-old-times" book, here in addition having some scandals and well written. I'll check other books for sure.

Agnieszka T. (enga) | 727 comments 98. Kieszonkowy atlas kobiet by Sylwia Chutnik - Pocket Atlas of Women - an interesting debut, generally utterly not in my style, but even though I managed to read it and actually many excerpts I liked a lot, so not all "modern literature (especially so called ambitious)" is not for me. I wonder what she will write in the future.
