Okay. So can someone do me a great favor and tabulate up the actual seconded nominations at the end of the week and I'll make the poll?

I can do that. :-)

*lol* Your fast! So no need for my attempt anymore... ;-)

@Calathea: Would you like to go through the list just to make sure? I tend to miss and mess things :)

Will do.

Cleon Lee | 2235 comments Although I stick with my nomination, but the rest of the nominations sound good!

message 58: by Calathea (last edited May 17, 2011 07:03AM) (new)

Calathea | 6034 comments I think, I got nearly the same result. There was only one more nomination.

nominated & seconded
Over The Mountain Of The Moon: a tale of a samurai consort (Cleon) (seconds: Suhi, Calathea)

Conquest (Pt) (seconds: Susan, Jill)

State of Mind (Merith) (seconds: Anne, Sylvia)

Regularly Scheduled Life (Jordan S.) (seconds: Charming)

nominated

Suffer the Little Children (Lori K.)

Match Maker (Yvonne)

message 59: by Susan (new)

Susan | 807 comments Currently Over the Mountain of the Moon is seconded only by Suhi. The other 2 seeconds, by Jordan and Anne, were withdrawn. Conquest is the only book so far with the requisite 2 seconds.

The list of nominated books should also include Regularly Scheduled Life.

message 60: by Calathea (new)

Calathea | 6034 comments I had a look at all the nominations again and decided to second Over the Mountain of the Moon. (Will change it in #61.)

message 61: by Becky (new)

Becky (fibrobabe) | 1052 comments Can I start campaigning for Conquest? I picked it up in the sale this weekend, and it's the only book on the list that I already own!

message 62: by Anne (new)

Anne Tenino (annetenino) | 3156 comments Okay, I'm going to officially second State of Mind, then.

message 63: by Calathea (new)

Calathea | 6034 comments Okay, I added you in #61.

Jill | 5 comments @ calathea -
Once a book has its 2 seconds you don't have to keep adding names beside it. Becky's comment about 'campaigning' for Conquest just means she hopes people vote for it when the poll is set up.

@calathea - As Jill pointed out yesterday Becky is NOT a second to Conquest. Therefore her name should not be listed next to the actual seconds, Susan and Jill, in your #61 message.

And there you can see, what happens when your thoughts are not completely on the task... *sorry*
(deleted Becky's not-second)

message 70: by JPerceval (new)

JPerceval | 154 comments OK, I think I'm late to the party, and I'm sure my suggestion will be roundly rejected since it's an older book that is not available in any e-format that I can see, so just think of this as a book recommendation that I'd love to discuss if anyone else here has read it, b/c it's one of my favorites from the GLBT genre: Halfway Home by Paul Monette

It sounds like it'd be a wonderful book, but it has to be available in ebook form to qualify. :( I went and looked at a few ebook haunts and cannot find it listed anywhere.

message 72: by JPerceval (new)

JPerceval | 154 comments Yeah, that's what I figured. Still, if you ever encounter it at a UBS, definitely pick it up. That is, if you people can stand turning actual paper pages. *grins and ducks*

LOL I have found myself poking impatiently at the page, waiting for it to turn, then I remember, "Oh. Print book. Have to turn the page myself."

State of Mind

Got 'em. And I did the second second on Regularly Scheduled Life, so the poll is up. And if we missed another title that had 2 seconds, I'll pop that up too.

message 77: by Susan (new)

Susan | 807 comments Josh wrote: "And if we missed another title that had 2 seconds, I'll pop that up too."

No worries there. No other title had even 1 second.

message 78: by Susan (new)

Susan | 807 comments The poll isn't set to private. Was that the intent?

No it wasn't. I've hopefully fixed it now.

Just for the record, in case my vote is liable to influence anyone, I'd be happy to read any of those books, so vote for the book you want to read!

I'm with you on this one, Becky! I read Conquest on Saturday and immediately bought the next 2 books in the series. On Sunday I read No Fear. Both are fabulous. What a great series. I hope Conquest is chosen as the June Read.

I really don't know anything about it, can you give me the basic premise? (This is your chance to start campaigning...).

sms | 13 comments Anne wrote: "...can you give me the basic premise?"

Anne - Click on the cover for the GR synopsis Conquest (Conquest, #1) by S.J. Frost of the book. However, the story is so much more than what you can get from this short blurb. If you have a Kindle download the free sample and read the first chapter. I don't think you will be disappointed.

Okay. Actually I've read the blurb, but I often don't trust them. :) Downloading the sample sounds like a great idea, though. Thanks!

message 85: by sms (new)

sms | 13 comments Anne wrote: "I've read the blurb, but I often don't trust them."

The blurb is accurate as far as it goes. The problem is, as others said when it was being nominated and seconded, so much happens in the story you can't really include everything in a summary. It needs to be experienced in its entirety to be fully appreciated.

message 86: by mc (new)

mc | 1308 comments sms, if you don't mind me asking, is this at all similar to the Jet Mykles series?

message 87: by Susan (last edited May 23, 2011 06:21PM) (new)

Susan | 807 comments mc wrote: "...is this at all similar to the Jet Mykles series?"

Hi mc. I'd like to give an answer to your question. While the Jet Mykles series, Heaven Sent, is also about a rock band, the 2 series could not be more different. HS is a light, funny, sexy, group of novellas.

Whereas the 'Conquest' series is of a much more serious nature, and at 377 pages, the first book in the series is a full-blown novel.

As sms said earlier today, the blurb on GR is accurate, but cannot begin to describe the full scope of the story.

I, of course, think it's a great read, or I would not have seconded it. I hope you decide to give it a try, and even better, maybe vote for it. :)

message 88: by mc (new)

mc | 1308 comments Thanks, Susan. I already own it, after some comments here and the recent major sale, so sure, I'd be happy enough to give it a try.

I read Three Wrong Turns as well, but by the time I got around to making comments, all the smart ones were already taken :)

sms | 13 comments mc wrote: "Thanks, Susan. I already own it, after some comments here..."

@mc - Just read your post this morning. Good thing Susan gave you an answer. I am not familiar with the Heaven Sent series, but from her description it is not the same thing at all. There is humor in Conquest, but it is essentially a serious (and fab-u-lous) story.

Emanuela ~plastic duck~ (manutwo) | 1768 comments I had a few troubles with the first book of the Heaven Sent series - the only one I read actually. The main character is so pushy it's not even funny. Conquest is more solid, even if sometimes I had the impression I was reading a fashion magazine or interior design magazine with all the descriptions of fancy clothes and houses :) I liked it much much more than Heaven.

I had problems with the first two books in the series, but Hell was really good. Brent (the POV character) had some serious vulnerabilities, and Hell was just pushy enough to drag the reluctant Brent into a relationship without being a jerk. And Hell had his own vulnerabilities to work through, too. This one was definitely my favorite of the series.

MC, part of the pleasure in these discussions is just the reiteration. It's like it makes the book last longer. So never mind about that! If you want to join in, join in!
