Rosina | 1714 comments Happy Birthday Daffodil

Jessica ...Yep its me that is the camper...dont worry about getting us mixed up...

Well I finished Divine by Mistake June 20/11 3 stars

So the book is about this 35 year old English teacher, Shannon Parker from Oklahoma who ends up in another time and place. Imagine a Wizard of Oz torando scene and poff she is now living in another time and place. She has traded places with a goddess who was a right bitch. That not very many people liked. So she adapts to her new role and then she meets her betrothed who is a centaur. As the story progresses they end up falling in love and fighting bad guys and saving their world.
Ok so it wasnt all bad. The writing was good. The author is good at one liners. What bugged me was her continual reference about the centaur. Man/horse/whatever. That just bugged me. Call him what he is ...a centaur.
So there is romance, humor, a few sex scenes, some more laughs, some fighting with these vampire bird like creatures. Dont think I will rush downstairs to my library to start reading the second one.

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments Thanks for the birthday wishes. It was pretty good! :D

D4 sounds good to me, too. Anything over to the left would only assist teal in adding to their diagonal. We need to keep an eye on them, LOL.

Rosina | 1714 comments I agree...gotta watch the sTealos...sneaky sneaky...D4 looks good .....r we just waiting for double chip placement by pink?

message 161: by Carlyn (new)

Carlyn | 466 comments still waiting on the pink but I think only two have finished their books so far. Are we waiting for them to place before we move?

message 162: by Daffodil (new)

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments I think we should go ahead and place our chip. If you look at the board, there's no options for pink to make 4 in a row with their placements. In fact, the way they're blocked in they pretty much have to start over by either getting 4 straight up in a column over on the right or by moving somewhere else on the board.

message 163: by Carlyn (new)

Carlyn | 466 comments Will I go ask for D4 everyone?

message 164: by Daffodil (new)

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments Yes, go for it. We don't want those pesky pinks taking it from us, now do we? LOL.

Lili | 297 comments aaaw.... you guys!!

Have you seen the board?... the pink team has 2 whole chips to drop wherever they want...
I thought you were the ones who were gonna to stop them...

My advice is for you to distract them however you can, all is fair in love and war... and this, dear ladies, IS a war!

message 170: by Laura Lulu (new)

Laura Lulu (lauralulu) | 1603 comments Lili, pink has nowhere to go. They have to start from scratch, since they can't get 4 in a row with the two they have on the board.

D4 was a good choice, yellow. Even if you blocked one of my purple's routes. ;)

There are days when I wish we had 2 books to read per week for this challenge....

Interesting how I have gone from a week every 10 days reader to 2 or 3 books a week...

Will concentrate now on finishing off some other monthly challenges....

Have a great day!!!

Carlyn | 466 comments Demonkeepers (Final Prophecy, #4) Demonkeepers by Jessica Andersen

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is Jessica Andersen's take on the Mayan doomsday prophecy. Mages called the Nightkeepers are charged with stopping the apocalypse and allowing the demons to roam free on earth. This is the fourth book of the series and it tell the story of Lucian and Jade. Lucian was not born a Nightkeeper and instead becomes the prophet after he is taken over by a demon. I liked the struggle Jade has to go through in the relationship. This book is not a pure romance novel. It has plenty of action and is very descriptive when describing Mayan history and the writers own take.

I would recommend the previous books in the series first but don't worry it is worth it!

Rosina | 1714 comments Finished Halfway to the Grave (Night Huntress, #1) by Jeaniene Frost Halfway to the Grave
June 26 4 stars

Vampires for Big girls!!! I thought I had had my fill of vampires. Nope bring on Bones!!! I cant believe I am still thinking about him and Cat and what will happen next. Thrilling, romantic, and overall awesome, Cat and Bones will have you hooked from the very first chapter. Great book to escape your everyday life. Cat is terrific, she's everything I would want my alter ego to be. Entertaining, thrilling, and funny. I loved the sexy but humurous encounters between Bones and Cat.

Cat is a young half human half vampire who spends evenings staking out vampires. She does this as revenge for the rape of her mother by a vampire five months before her premature birth. She also hopes of stumbling upon and killing her father. Then Cat meets Bones. Bones gets the best of her in a match and forces her to team up with him. He is a vampire bounty hunter. He explains to her that there are two kinds of vampires. Those that feed because they must and then leave people uninjured, and those that try to harm humans in every way possible. There is lots of action with the bad guys/vamps. Great world, it seems like it really could exist.

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments Primal Bonds (Shifters Unbound, #2) by Jennifer Ashley , Primal Bonds, Jennifer Ashley, 6-26-11
Cover image: he's holding a sword

4 stars. I really enjoyed this second book in the Shifters Unbound series.

We get a chance to revisit the Morrissey family. Liam is still trying to figure out how to uncollar shifters, Kim is still attempting to gain more rights for shifters, Connor is still his exuberant self, Dylan & Glory are still flirting around with each other and Sean continues to carry out his duties as Guardian, helping shifter souls move on freely when they've died.

Andrea's rough childhood in a pack that despised her for her half-Fae blood has only made her stronger. Used to relying on herself, she resists any attempt at protection, driving Sean crazy in the process. Sean sees in Andrea his one chance at having a mate and doesn't intend on letting her go. Since humans are attacking businesses that serve shifters, he has reason to be concerned. The investigation leads to more complex plots and we learn a little more about the Fae race also.

I'm definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments We need to really think hard about our chip placement. Purple has multiple paths that a 2 chip drop will give them 4 in a row. Teal has at least one, maybe more if we build up the wrong column. Pink has one chip left and we have both of ours and that's still not enough to block all possibilities. Since Teal and Purple are both pretty quick off the block, we might be in a bit of trouble when the next announcement comes through.

Carlyn | 466 comments any ideas on chip placement this week?

message 185: by Rosina (new)

Rosina | 1714 comments Hmmm. F5 blocks purple

C4 blocks teal.

Sorry not sure if we should go defensive or offensive

I think blocking would be best and F5 blocks the most moves for purple

What r ur views

message 186: by Daffodil (new)

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments Here's a quick run down as I see it, let me know if I missed anything.

I'm assuming purple or teal can get all 4 books read right away in order to drop two chips at once, since they've both been pretty quick.
C4 must be taken to block teal. But, if it is, then c5 and c6 must be taken in order to block purple.
E6 must be taken to block purple.
F5 must be taken to block purple.
G1 and G2 must be taken to block purple.

Our best bet is probably to take c4, blocking teal. Then we would have their help next week in blocking purple, assuming they want the game to continue that is.

message 187: by Dana (new)

Dana (erato) | 922 comments Hey there ladies, Pretty INKredible here...

We took care of F5 so purple has been blocked from the 2/way win they had going there. I figure you all can take care of the other side of purple if you are so inclined. Daffodil was right, the teal issue can't really be fixed yet the way I see it. However, next week is full of possibilities! ;]

Happy reading to you all!

Rosina | 1714 comments chip placement

if we place g1 and g2 we block purple but run the risk of teal placing both of their chips first on the next round and them placing at c4 and c5 for the win

if we place both our chips at c4 and c5 to block teal and if purple gets their chip first then they win if they place at c6

if purple gets both their chips fast they could also place at g1 and g2 and then win

I cant see a move that would block both of them

Anybody see any other moves?

message 190: by Daffodil (new)

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments I would definitely place at least one chip at c4 to block teal. Since they have no other way to place two chips and win, they would be motivated in the next round to help block purple as quickly as possible. The other chip, ?

Rosina | 1714 comments I will probably have limited internet access from June 30-July 3rd....
For chip placement we should place at C4 and then e6..
that way no one can win on the first chip placement...
we block teal and a purple....

any thoughts

message 193: by Carlyn (new)

Carlyn | 466 comments I like that idea Zina!

message 194: by Daffodil (new)

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments I think that's the best way to go also.

At this point, there's no way for us to block both the e-column and the g2 spot, either of which purple could win with a double chip placement. C4 knocks out teals only possible double chip win, putting teal in the position of helping block purple.

I know that still leaves purple with two possible double chip wins, but on the plus side there will be 3 teams blocking instead of 2.

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments I'm probably going to read The Body Finder (The Body Finder, #1) by Kimberly Derting , young adult category. I just happened to bring it over to my friends this weekend and luckily it fit one of the categories.

Let's just not mention the tote bag packed with 10 other books taking up space in her living room. Hey. I brought a broad range to cover my bases. Just in case. LOL.

Going to a big family & friends cookout tomorrow, 100+ people, so I'm not really sure how my reading and posting schedule will work out.
