Some great reviews, Leila. Have you read The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig? It's another very funny take on the Three Little Pigs. I think that this was one of her earlier books; perhaps it hasn't aged well? Charm School, Madame Doubtfire and How to Write Really Badly are great, though.

It is, but I think Lucy is quite capable of facing down anything living in her house!

I should add that this is one of the best examples of different fonts and type-setting I have seen in a book. It gives the feel of a ransom note adding to the atmosphere.

Dave McKean is an outstanding graphic artist; did the illustrations for some editions of Coraline and The Graveyard Book as well.

There is an exhibition of Dave McKean's work starting next week at Foyle's Bookshop, Charing Cross Road

Great reviews Nishita. Just check that they all show up when you go to Your Books; I think one of them being a comment rather than a review may mean that you'll lose it when you come to do the children's lit task. Have you read Jamila Gavin's Kamla and Kate? It's a lovely book of short stories exploring friendship, similarities and differences and is a good way of starting discussions about respect for all cultures in Y2/3 classrooms.

This and What's Under the Bed? would be excellent for supporting a Rocks & Soils Science topic

Well, as you get to know the curriculum better, you'll be able to make the links with more confidence! I think it would help people reading your reviews to know if there is a good curriculum link, but not all books will.

Thanks Emma. Which age range would you recommend this book for, and would it be a book to read aloud to a class, or for children to read for themselves, or both?

Hi Alison,
I would recommend it for Key Stage 2 age groups - would make a brilliant book to read aloud to children as an end of day activity, or you could ask children to take in turns to read some around the class?
As an extended, follow-on activity, it could even be made into a drama type activity!

Here is the link to my review for this lovely picture book by Simon Puttock and Lynne Chapman:

It is definitely a great book to read aloud to Y3 and 4, and for able readers Y4 and above for a guided/ group reading book. I wouldn't ever advocate reading around the class. Children switch off, and a number of chidlren would be humiliated by being unable to read the text.

Thanks Paul! I love Eoin Colfer's books. As well as the Artemis Fowl books, I'd recommend Half-Moon Investigations to upper KS2. Eoin Colfer has written some other amazing books, but some are definitely more appropriate to KS3 (The Supernaturalist, The Wish List etc) although highly recommended as supernatural fantasy/ Science Fiction if you enjoy those genres.

Hi Sarah, once you've written your review and saved it, Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ will ask if you want to share it. Get rid of that screen, then click on the button that says "my review". Then copy and paste the URL. If you're still confused, come and see me at 2:20pm tomorrow in ED402 and I'll talk you through it.
