Liz M For the CiV Page Length categories, as a scorekeeper, I am going to use the page numbers recorded in the goodreads database. However, some books do not have page numbers or have incorrect page numbers.

From the goodreads Librarian manual: "The number of pages should include the relevant text of the book -- glossaries, appendices, author's notes, etc should be included in the page count if they are labeled with regular numbers, but not if they are labeled by Roman Numerals. Ads, book previews, author biographies, and other such unrelated text should NOT be included in the page count.

Books already in the database that were imported from Amazon often already have page numbers, and these are often incorrect. Amazon appears to have default page numbers according to the publisher and type of book. These can be corrected, but only if you have the exact book with a matching ISBN."

Post here if you would like a librarian to correct the page numbers of a specific edition of a book. Please provide the ISBN number and the correct number of pages.

ETA: Occasionally, the original publication year will be wrong. Librarians can also correct this information.

Kiri | 20 comments Librarian Request - do not ask for ebooks to have page numbers added. This is not done due to the nature of ebooks. Please use the most popular edition for your page counts.

Thank you.

Rebekah (bekalynn) I'm reading The Trail of the Lonesome Pine by John Fox Jr.
My copy has 258 pages but when i type in the ISBN for my copy, Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ says it has 264pgs.
This edition was published by Bibliobazaar in 2006. The ISBN is 1-4264-1220-7
Really, the last numbered page is 258. There is only one more page afterwards that is an advertisement with the website on it and then a blank page after that so there is no way they can make 264 out of that, can they? I know i'm notknown for my ciphering skills. Do the count the title page, copyright page and dedication page too?. Those are also un-numbered

They can when the page number field is populated by data from Amazon/publishers which estimates the number of pages in a book based on format/size rather than bothering with the exact number of pages in every published work.

Paula | 163 comments I'm looking at using Sovereign as part of CiV, but the paperback edition I have, which matches the ISBN for the above link, has 579 pages. I'm not sure where the extra four pages come in, as Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ lists it at 583. I think the four extra pages are the copyright, title and blank pages before the book starts. I'm not sure if this is an edit to make, or if I can just get an exception to use this as a 579-page book for CiV? Or if both options are denied, I can easily go back to the drawing board for CiV! Thank you!

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14074 comments Sometimes the GR page numbers are wrong. I fixed this one, Paula.

Krista (kacey14) | 1037 comments Hi Elizabeth: Could you correct the number of pages shown for ISBN: 0553278029

A Great Deliverance by Elizabeth George

GR shows the page count as 432. I have a copy of this in front of me and there are only 413 numbered pages.

Thanks! -K

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14074 comments Done, Krista! I've heard her mysteries are good!

Thanks! -- Yes they are. I've read 5 or 6 of them, but I don't think I've read this one which is the 1st in the series.

I don't want to read more of the later books in the series until I read this one.

Glad I could work it in for a CiV task!!

Camille For CiV second book I'm reading The Fate of a Crown by Baum. My Nook edition has 113 pages listed, but that version is not on goodreads. The closest version has 194 pages. I was counting it in that category, but can do whatever I need to.
THANKS!

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14074 comments Camille, can you provide a link to the B&N edition?

I'll accept the nook book at 113 pages (per Kiri's request above, the pages should not be edited in the goodreads database).

Camille Here is a link to my B&N edition:

I think this is the right one. There are a couple and without pictures, I'm not sure which one was downloaded. The links do not specify page numbers either.

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14074 comments Camille, see that Liz will accept your 113 pages.

Some Kindle books have page numbers, coming from Amazon. I didn't know if this Nook edition had pagination from B&N.

Kathleen (itpdx) (itpdx) | 1697 comments There seems to be some confusion on the publishing history of one of the books I am looking at using for CiV. There are two listings in GoodReads The Coast Watchers. and The coast watchers with different publication dates. The edition I have indicates copywrites in 1946 and 1959 and the author's acknowledgements is dated 1946 and has a forward by General MacArthur who died in 1964 but the only publication date listed in the book is 1979. I was hoping to use it for the 1941-1952 published dates. What do you think?

message 20: by Elizabeth (Alaska) (last edited Dec 12, 2011 05:18PM) (new)

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14074 comments I will fix this. From a biography at: , is the verification as In 1946 he published The Coast Watchers (Melbourne), the definitive story of the service.

While I'm there, I can make sure the page number is listed correctly. Do you have an ISBN for your edition, and what are the page numbers?

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14074 comments Ok, I got some more expert help and the author is combined and the editions combined. You'll still need to have the pages entered before you post, so let me know.

message 22: by Kathleen (itpdx) (last edited Dec 12, 2011 08:52PM) (new)

Kathleen (itpdx) (itpdx) | 1697 comments My book does not have an ISBN. With an addendum, the last page is 240. It is a hardback and says that it is a book club edition published by Nelson Doubleday.
Thank you for wrestling with this one!

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14074 comments Ok, I got your book set up, please use this link: The Coast Watchers.. There are 2 editions published in 1979 here on GR, yours and a paperback by Bantam.

Karen Michele Burns (klibrary) | 5208 comments I decided to make what I thought would be a quick switch in my CiV selections, but unfortunately when Hercule Poirot's Christmas, ISBN 9780425177419, arrived from my library, it had just 257 pages instead of the listed 272 pages(on Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ and my library's catalog) I didn't find the correct # of pages on Amazon either. Can this be changed, please?

Black Star, Bright Dawn ISBN 9780547053196

but Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ and Amazon list it as 355. I was planning on using it for page length 301-340.

Phoebe (phoebegilmore) | 158 comments Hi,
The following book has a different actual page count than according to the goodreads info:
9783100894335
Klimakriege. Wofür im 21. Jahrhundert getötet wird
The numbered pages are (including appendices: notes, literature, subject index, and person index) alltogether 335.
Would be great if that could be corrected.
Thanks!

And I'd have another one...

has only 380 pages, not 410.
Thanks!

Phoebe (phoebegilmore) | 158 comments *g* Wow...then you're up incredibly early! :-O

And just stumbled over another book...this time the pages are missing completely to my edition:
9781905978007
A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints: A Memoir
It has 211 pages.
The publishing information on the inside of the book state a different publication year as well, namely: 2003. (That's the earliest copyright mentioned)
Fantastic Fiction says 2003, too.

Greetings, Phoebe

message 47: by Cait (new)

Cait (caitertot) My request is not one of page numbers but I'm hoping someone can help anyway. I'm assuming that librarians can edit quotes? I put a quote on GR but forgot to attribute it to the book it came from. Here is the link to the quote: http://www.goodreads.com/quotes/show/...

Can someone please add This Way for the Gas, Ladies and Gentlemen as the source book? I would greatly appreciate it.
