Sally Hanan (inksnatcher) | 23 comments If you'd like an alternative to paying someone, my husband and I have used themeforest Wordpress templates for all of our sites, and I used one as the splash page for my book (pickyourlife.com). It's a learning curve at first, but if you already use a little html, learning WP is definitely a skill worth having.

Laurie | 10 comments I would NOT recommend hiring a web designer, sorry everyone. You can design your own website for FREE (I can show you where, and even if you create a site for your book, you probably won't get sales from it. I spent over $1500 to get a website up, and didn't get one book sale from it. Such a waste of time & money for authors, in my opinion, at least when you're first starting out. I'm the author of . I also manage book projects for people who don't have time to publish their own book, and do to teach people how to publish and market their book for FREE. Yes, I spent $2000+ getting my book published, but I help other authors avoid my costly mistakes. I give discounts on my checklist & video tutorial to people who ask nicely too. :)

message 55: by Christina (new)

Christina George (christinageorge) | 16 comments I disagree, I think you need to hire someone to design your site. You should never self-edit, design your own cover, create your own site or cut your own hair. Tons of less expensive options out there, too. Take a look at: - we've used them.

Janys (janyshyde) | 35 comments Beginning to feel like a Jack of all Trades in here, but yes, I design web sites and specialize in Wordpress sites with lots of content appropriate plugins. I also do regular HTML sites if that's what you prefer but most people like to take over the management of their own site and WP makes ample allowance for that with its content management system.

Examples of sites are my own ...

always in a state of 'work in progress' like the plumber with leaks in his own home

Many of my sites have been created for holiday home owners, and for those with homes in Venice I have some standard information and copy packages to include.

Dianne Andre (httpswwwgoodreadscomdianneandre) | 17 comments There are so many options and talented individuals here. I am in the process of choosing a WordPress theme for a web presence for my Kindle e-Book, Ashley's Gift: A Story of Loss and Self-Forgiveness available at .

Yes, I’m on FB, Twitter, Pinterest, and I have a gardening blog, all of which don’t seem to be enough when it comes to marketing.

Is there any one marketing strategy that has worked best for you?

I just looked through WordPress themes, twice, and could not find Themeforest.

message 63: by Janys (new)

Janys (janyshyde) | 35 comments For those who already know how to move around a Wordpress web site for instance, I occasionally give away free templates in zip file format that you can just download for free from my site and install onto your own.
No strings attached ...
Here is the giveaway page on one site

and here on the other

When I get the time and inspiration I add templates to these sites. Building them helps me relax a bit ...

Mary | 3 comments Dianne,
Themeforest is not a theme - it is actually an "estore" that has many themes you can purchase. ProTip - if you decide to go this route make sure the theme you are choosing has good reviews particularly regarding support and updates.

Hope that helps.

We are a team of two experienced web developers and we recently launched a web design service dedicated to authors.

Our ambition is to create a long-lasting impression on your readers with a uniquely designed website that fits your literary genre and personality. Whether it is a quiet, soothing design for contemplative poetry or a cutting-edge hi-tech look for an exciting science-fiction series, we’ll make the perfect design.

Beyond the look, we want your website to provide all the information your readers need: dedicated pages to learn about your books, your biography information, listing of your events & appearances. And most of all, a way to engage with you as an author through your blog and social media.

Our websites are easy to manage, optimized for search engine, and affordable. You can check our portfolio for examples of our work.

You can also send me a message through GoodReads if you prefer.

Looking forward to work with you!

Justin (justinbienvenue) | 2270 comments Hey Everyone,
I've have a website on Webs.com for around 5 years now I believe. In that time my site has undergone quite a bit of changes. I've been looking it over and I feel like it's missing something or I should try to organize it and switch things up though maybe it's better off as is. Basically what I need is another set of eyes to look the site over and tell me what they think.

Let me know what you think, I'd love to hear feedback, good or bad and I promise I won't get upset if it's bad! lol. But yeah if you have a little bit of time just go over it, skim it and let me know what you think.

Your thoughts would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Justin.

Eeva Lancaster (eevalancaster) | 14 comments Need a Website or Blog? Beautiful and Easy to Update

Do you need a website but you don't know how to make one?
Do you have one but it doesn't look professional enough?

A Website is a place where you can showcase your writing and talk about your books.
It's more personal than an Author Page on Amazon or elsewhere.

We can create a website for you that you can easily maintain.
A website that you can call your Online Home.

That's what's important, right?
You should be able to easily post whatever you want
and stamp your personality on it to your heart's delight.
Blogging is hard enough without adding the stress of having to learn how to code.

We create Blogger sites that do not look like Blogger sites.
Post and Publish. That's all you'll need to do.
No Coding Required.

Why Blogger? Because it's the easiest to maintain.
Especially if you don't know a thing about HTML or CSS.
Yeah, we know you read articles saying other platforms give you more control.
The Truth? Coding is control.
If you have no idea what coding is, choose Simple, Cool and Easy.

Well, it's certainly busy. Perhaps a little too busy. I found it hard to decide what I wanted to look at and in the end gave up.
There's a saying some chef's use which I think applies to website design too, 'less is more.'
I'm not saying I'm an expert, but take a look at some of my designs via my website.

message 96: by Mariam (new)

Mariam Cheshire (mariam1972) | 25 comments I need a sketch artist for the figure on the cover of my book. I cleared out the people around him in the original picture and probably will use more mountains than is shown here and blue sky. I like this pose he was at a tournament but it needs to be sharper and more colorful.
The writing of my son’s biography is finished and I have started editing. This cover will follow the same general scene as on my other two books on Amazon and Kindle. They can be seen on my website (“The Alternate Safe World of Sanctuary and “Life and Loves of Myrt-ty-Ky-Ly, Dragaan Princess.)
The robin hood archer’s men’s clothing that he is wearing can be seen on the internet. This would be rust color for the cap and rust and dark green for his clothing.
The book size will be 6x9 but your drawing could be larger and I would fit it. I would like to know the price and when I could have it. If you can give me an idea of how this would work for you, my email is mimar102@ cox.net. Thank you, Mariam Cheshire
I can not find a way to add a picture. If you email me, I will send it. Thanks
