I see you have Suz Brockmann's Troubleshooters in your list. I actually read the last four books of her series and was hooked. I have to go back and start it from the beginning.

I swear I do not know how you are able to manage these challenges. I spent forever last night going over my list to for 2 other challenges you have going. I still have to post those and now ANOTHER one OMG!!! Wait maybe there is 3 other ones.. yes!! there is. This one is going to take even more thought.

I can see what I will be doing this weekend .. organizing myself.. what books go where my head is spinning ...but I am loving every minute!! Oh! wait there maybe 4 ..oh wait.. you are still coming up with that one something about...BOOTCAMP!!LOL!!!
How do you do it??

message 8: by Yz the Whyz, Moderator (new)

Yz the Whyz (whyz) | 9327 comments Cheryl,

LOL...looks like I have no life at the moment..LOL..yesterday, was my day off, so while doing house chores, and reading in between, I thought i'll post more. Don't worry, except for the January challenge, the rest can be done leisurely. They are mostly good for the whole year.

As for the non-books related weight-loss bootcamp, I'm still thinking about that. It will not be up probably until the latter part of January. Still have to put my thinking cap, how to make it feasible.

I have to admit goodreads have become my new obssession...LOL

Sarah | 367 comments Yz,

I've been trying to figure out: Do you have to read the Brockmann books in order, or are they stand alone?

Also, since both you and Jael want to start the Cassie Palmer books, I can't recommend them enough! They are super! Definitely put them on your TBR pile.

message 12: by Yz the Whyz, Moderator (last edited Jan 15, 2009 08:06AM) (new)

Yz the Whyz (whyz) | 9327 comments Sarah,
The first book I read was book 11 (Force of Nature), and although there were references to other characters in previous books, I was able to enjoy. Then I read book 12, book 10 and book 13. By then, i'm starting to get the hang of who the other people are. Still there are so many characters, that I feel I should just go back and start from the beginning.

I love her style of writing, and she writes the guys POVs so well. I can't wait for Dark of Night, her latest, to come out...although the Amazon readers are shredding it apart already because of how they feel about the pairings...

Have you read her before? The Troubleshooters books are my first with her, although I'm planning to look up her other series, Tall, Dark and Dangerous.

You are doing fine. Wow...you have read so many series, and are simply waiting for the next book.

I, on the other hand, needs to do some major catching up. I basically started reading PNR/UF like over a year and a half ago...but so far, I'm addicted...LOL

message 17: by ˥T (new)

˥T˥ (siddie) | 407 comments Kasia,

The Anita Blake series is definately not done, her next book is due June and its called Skin Trade.

Same goes for her Merry Gentry series (though you didnt list this one)

message 18: by Kasia (new)

Kasia Thanks, Tricia.
True Anita Blake is still going strong. Just not for me. I've stopped reading the series half way through (8th or 9th book), I just don't find it entertaining any more... Hence i put it in the "Finished" pile. I'm finished with it. Me, personally. Sorry if it wasn't stated clearly ;) Same goes for Morganville Vamps; I don't think Rachel Caine is done there either.

message 19: by ˥T (new)

˥T˥ (siddie) | 407 comments Oh I get it now :) Sorry I got it confused hehe.

message 20: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 367 comments Yz,

I haven't read Suzanne Brockmann before, but I picked up the first book in each of her series to try. I got them about the same time I did the first book in each of Cindy Gerard's series. They look similar. I got some other discount copies at the local 2nd hand store, but they went right to the TBR pile... At least until I finish the Jan. challenge over at the PNR group site! :)

message 21: by Lori (new)

Lori (moderatrixlori) Yz, I didn't start reading PNR until July when I read Twilight. I've been trying to get caught up on all the popular series ever since. I think I read 82 books since July. I still have a ton of series to start. It will never end...not that I'm complaining.

message 22: by Yz the Whyz, Moderator (new)

Yz the Whyz (whyz) | 9327 comments Sarah,

Brockmann has a large base fan, and even JR Ward of the BDB books calls her as her inspiration. I think you will enjoy her books. I did enjoy the latter Troubleshooters books, that much I know.

Lori,
I know what you mean. I returned to reading fiction when I picked up Dark Lover and Lover Awakened from a library sale about a year and half ago. Now, most of the books I read are predominantly PNR.

message 23: by Jess (new)

Jess YZ - I just noticed that too, I have read a lot of series books. It just seems like all the good books are in a series, I have found very few PNR and UF books that are solitary novels.

And I love it lol

message 24: by Yz the Whyz, Moderator (new)

Yz the Whyz (whyz) | 9327 comments Well, books in a series are fun and addictive. It's like almost all of the books I read belong in a series. It's like meeting new people while hanging out with old friends everytime you read a new installment in the series.

message 25: by Jess (new)

Jess I keep finding more things to add! ahh. lol.

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) I know when you look at other ppls list your like oh yeah I want that book as well. The series I listed were the ones I have in e-book format. I haven't even listed the ones on my BF/GR TBR.

message 27: by Yz the Whyz, Moderator (new)

Yz the Whyz (whyz) | 9327 comments Yep..that evil TBR list..LOL...So far, i've posted the series I really want to catch up this year. When I do, I will add the others that are in the backburner. But it is so tempting to just keep adding and adding and adding...LOL

message 28: by Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (last edited Jan 15, 2009 05:21PM) (new)

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) Mygoal this year was to start one book from each series just to see if I liked them but I got sidetrack with the BDB. I'm hoping to contiue that one. These challenges make it easy to do that. I'm redoing my a-z list to reflect my goal.

message 29: by Jess (new)

Jess I think the reason I get through so many series (besides my insatiable need to read lol) is that once I read the first one, I pretty much keep going until I've read the whole series. My only troubled series right now is Jim Butcher's Dresden Files. The books are good, but I need to be in the right mood for them.

I'm a little leery of starting the Dark Carpathian series just because there are sooo many of them.. it's like Kenyon's Dark hunter series lol

message 30: by Yz the Whyz, Moderator (new)

Yz the Whyz (whyz) | 9327 comments My recommendation when it comes with the Carpathians...do not read them one after the other. Read books in between them or else you will find them almost similar to each other. The books are very formulaic, and though I read all of them, I have a hard time distinguishing the different heroes from each other.

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) I've been wanting to start the dresden series for a while. I got three omnibus from my bookclub but haven't picked them up yet. Are they sci fantasy or urban fantasy.

message 32: by Jess (new)

Jess yz- thanks for the tip, I think it'll be a little while before I read them though. I should finish the ones I'm reading now before I keep adding more lol.

Jael - I'm not sure the difference between sci fantasy or urban fantasy.. but basically dresden is a wizard in a world where people know magic exists but don't necessarily believe in it. He has various cases from book to book, and he sometimes works with the local police. I like the books because Dresden's character has a sarcastic humor that I love and there is a lot of action. But sometimes it takes me a little while to pick it up because I do like books that have some romance involved and this one doesn't really.

message 33: by Yz the Whyz, Moderator (new)

Yz the Whyz (whyz) | 9327 comments I haven't read the Dresden files, but it looks like its urban fantasy. It is set in contemporary times, but with fantasy elements.

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) I see thanks guys. I might give it a try although no romance *gasp* the HORROR! LOL

message 35: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 367 comments Jess,

I think I know what you mean about the Dresden books. I've picked Storm Front up twice at the library to read, but I've never read it yet. I think I'll have to be in a mood to read it, and right now I'm more in the mood for PNR and suspense. I still want to read the series, though. I picked up the Welcome to the Jungle graphic novel, and I really liked it.

message 36: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1245 comments Yz wrote: "My recommendation when it comes with the Carpathians...do not read them one after the other. Read books in between them or else you will find them almost similar to each other. The books are very..."

I agree, but since each book is about a different Carpathian with some cross over characters, once you've gotten into the series, you will look forward to reading about the characters from the older books. This series is one of my very favorites, even with the author sticking to her "formula", but I do need to be in the mood for them.

message 37: by Yz the Whyz, Moderator (new)

Yz the Whyz (whyz) | 9327 comments I like the Dark books of Feehan. I agree with Melissa. Even formulaic, and maybe because of that, I still look forward to reading the next installment in the series.

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) Jess, I have the same thing with series. If I read the first one and like it, I have to keep reading that series until I'm done. I get sucked into that world and I can't let it go.

message 39: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 367 comments I've been meaning to post this website, but I kept forgetting. If you like series, but have trouble finding the series book order, this site is great for telling you.

Either Google KDL What's Next or cut and past this address:

The search is kind of particular, so you have to use exact names and spelling to get your results. Works like a charm though.

message 40: by Jess (new)

Jess Sweet! Thanks for the website Sarah.

has anyone read anything by Allison Kent, I just picked up her book The Bane Affair, it was on a whim, I don't even know what it's about! lol.

-Aunt Dimity by Nancy Atherton Read 13, with #14 coming out this month

Start new series:
- Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. Not sure I'll like this or not, but I have the first 2 books in the series. At this point, I only plan on reading the first book and see how it goes from there.
- Heart of Texas series by Debbie Macomber There are 8 books in the series, of which I've only read the last 2. I put 6 on my A-Z book challenge list, and the other 2 on a name challenge
-Jeeves stories by P.G. Wodehouse He wrote 25 short stories and 12 novels about the valet Jeeves. The library has 1 short story and 4 novels. I bought one omnibus with 2 more novels and 10 short stories. So reading what I can get my hands on since I can't afford to get them all.
-Cedar Cove series by Debbie Macomber
-Booktown Mysteries by Lorna Barrett Just discovered these. First came out last year, second on Feb 3rd and third in Dec 2009. The author wrote on her website that the series is picked up for another 3 books. It's murders are set around a small town that has multiple bookshops.

nearly forgot about this one...
In the Middle of the Series:
-Janet Dailey's Americana Series. One book for each of the 50 states. I've read 13, which leaves 37 to go. I've worked 2 more into challenges so far.

Might start new series if I have time: lol
- Monica Ferris mysteries There are 12. (I own the first 10, with the author having signed the first 6)
- Ian Fleming James Bond novels There are 12 novels and 2 books of short stories (9 stories).
