regard the village in every way as their home--and yet never touch or be touched by any one belonging to the village.
It's sad to read/know about such a thing.
It's even sadder to read such things even toady in 21st century. Yesterday, I read an article about recent honour killings in Telangana. Hathras rape case is becoming yet another example of Dalit oppression.
I hope to see a day in my life, when various castes/religions and their customs are being celebrated by all of us as a part of our diverse culture, instead of being a reason for discrimination.

“If mankind are brought into existence, and by nature formed to enjoy the comforts of society and the pleasure of an improved mind, they may be justified in opposing any system, religious, domestic or political, which is inimical to the happiness of society, or calculated to debase the human intellect.”

“You cannot have a good social system when you find yourself low in the scale of political rights nor can you be fit to exercise political rights and privileges, unless your social system is based on reason and justice. You cannot have a good economic system when your social arrangements are imperfect. If your religious ideas are low and grovelling, you cannot succeed in the social, economic or political spheres. This inter-dependence is not an accident but the law of our nature.”
