really liked it
4.5 stars. I really like McBride's writing and the worlds he creates. Deacon King Kong just kept sitting me and we will see if The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store has the same effect. But I loved how he collides Jewish and Black culture in Pottstown in the 1970s. It felt like McBride wrote from a real place of understanding and I looked it up to find that he was born to a Jewish mother (who did convert away from Judaism) and Black father. It works b ...more
