The Death and Life of Zebulon Finch, Vol. 1 by Daniel Kraus

A.R.’s first review of the year

did not like it
Not only was the story boring and the main character insufferable, but he at one point wishes death by hate crime on a guy he hates who happens to be black, and also later is surprised that women have interesting things to say. Every woman in this book is a cookie-cutter character and an airhead, and most everyone else is flat.
This book is also 600+ pages and most of it could have been cut out, because nothing actually interesting happens.

A.R.’s last review of the year

really liked it
I really enjoyed this book. The main character is an absolute badass, the story is gripping and the world is fairly well developed. I wasn’t a fan of the romantic subplot because it happened way too quickly, so I was actually glad it turned out to be a very small part of the story. Additionally, there were certain plot points that felt really convenient and predictable, and kept me from loving this book as much as I could have, but I still liked ...more
