Antioch & Alexandria both used allegory. Antioch followed rhetorics and literary critics of their time, wherefore they insisted that the text needs to "mirror" closely the spiritual reality it points to. Alex. followed philosophers who focused on symbols and systems that helped to decode the veiled spiritual message (true sense).

Galatians showcases the new social order created by Christ's death & resurrection; faith -> Love in the community, reciprocity instead of the social competitions. All hierarchies are subverted, among them Torah & circumcision have been rendered ineffective (but not wrong). Grace = incongruous gift; but not equal with salvation: salvation is based on final judgment.

After describing the depth of his sin since before he was born until his adolescence, he sums up that the very fact he even exists is God's gift, and this gift keeps him, and God is responsible for keeping the continuation of the gift.

Many try to baptize their social work as kingdom ministry but there is no kingdom ministry outside the church. However, McKnight then collapses into individualism and recognizes that what a Christian does (e.g. at workplace) is kingdom ministry. Slightly awkward, or maybe he will explain himself better in the second half of the book.

Feminist theology, liberation theology, and post-colonialism. The Bible remains offensive. Rejection of the Bible's metanarrative is just another metanarrative.

Collins focuses on postmodern assumptions, argues that 1) we can learn from postmodern exegesis, 2) we should listen to them because they are on the fringes (and thus challenge us), 3) many a liberal approach is, in many ways, postmodernist, 4) biblicists are the other end of the spectrum, 5) but implicitly they are not as important? because they approach the Bible by the means of "innocent until proven guilty"...
