(1) '"Tell me, how does it feel being second-best to Weasley, Potter?" he asked.
"Shut up, Malfoy," said Hermione sharply.'
- More Ron/Hermione mirroring. Until now, it's always been Ron who's defended Hermione's honor against Malfoy's jibes. Here it's the other way around.
(2) With Delores Umbridge, it'd be far more fitting for her initials to be FU instead of DU.

(1) "Cornelius, I am ready to fight your men and win again!"
- Dumbledore giving orders to Fudge while still an enemy of the state is one of the series most boss moments.
(2) Phineas Nigellus: "You see, Dumbledore? ... Never try to understand the students. They hate it. They would much rather be tragically misunderstood..."
- A bit cynical, but he's not incorrect.

- You'd think all the time fighting with Hermione would have better prepared Ron to fight another brain.

(3) It's easy to forget that people still think Sirius is a murderer.

Harry: "Yeah."

(1) Hermione treats Luna like McGonagall treats Trelawney. With open disdain at the mere mention of absurdities, but with affection and friendship when faced against a common enemy.
(2) Harry, Luna and Neville being the only ones who can hear voices behind the veiled archway should have been a light bulb moment, since they're also the only ones who can see thestrals.

(1) '"What did you call us?" shouted a wild-looking black centaur, whom Harry recognized as Bane.'
- Bane? I bet he was born in the darkness.
- In my head he's voiced by Tom Hardy.
(2) "Real tears [slid] down [Hermione's] face now. “We haven’t done anything to hurt you ... we just want to go back to school.
- Of course she wants to go back to school, she's Hermione.

(1) Hermione loves elves but hates giants... a bit hypocritical if you ask me. Also ironic since nearly every elf hates her, but Grawp adores her.
(2) 'Harry raised his wand, looked directly at Umbridge, and imagined her being sacked.
"Expecto Patronum!"'
- Sure, that's a happy thought... though, if it were me, I'd add some sort of humiliation to make it extra happy.

She's the best villain in the series, in my opinion. Much more real world and visceral than Voldemort. We all know the feeling of hating school teachers for injustices endured.

I get what you're saying. She's certainly a scene stealer and the character that provokes the strongest reaction regardless of who she's sharing the stage with.

I think part of it is that she is sort of a stand-in for all the terrible teachers we've all experienced growing up. In that sense, it's more real because she's an actual person, or persons, that we know and have had bad experiences with. So, she taps into the existing bad feeling we have innately. It's bonus hatred, on top of what she does in the book.

I think part of it is that she is sort of..."
I agree, Rowling's somehow managed to channel all our bad school experiences with teachers in one character.

Yes, also Umbrdige is all our suspicions about teachers made literal. For example, we all can say our teachers tortured us in school, or hated us implicitly, or subjected us to draconian rules. Here Umbridge actually does.

So happy you're enjoying them, Lia!

It's enough pink to make you vomit or melt your brain. So much pink! 😲🤢🤯

While it's directed at Harry, it's an insult to Ron, hence Hermione is defending Ron.
Finishing second best isn't inherently bad. Finishing second to someone like Hermione or Cedric or Neville (at herbology) might be seen as an achievement. But making the comparison to Ron, with the intention of putting Harry down, is to imply that Ron's a loser or inept, and Harry should feel ashamed for it.
Additionally, I know Hermione's defending Ron because "Shut up, Malfoy" is Ron's catchphrase when he defends Hermione against Malfoy. She's literally quoting him. Ergo, Malfoy is trying to make Harry feel bad, but not insulting him. Malfoy is insulting Ron while not directly addressing him.

Ron has the best facial expressions :)

Yes, it's like that old saying, "you can put lipstick on a pig but it's still a pig." No amount of girly hues can mask the repulsive character underneath.

Umbridge hate is truly a rallying call for unity :)

Dumbridge is a great nickname. It's catchy. I'll certainly have it on the mind whenever I think of her :)
