(1) Arthur: "Well, I don’t know whether you know what what stitches are?"
Molly: "It sounds as though you’ve been trying to sew your skin back together ... but even you, Arthur, wouldn’t be that stupid "
- I guess Ron takes after his mother.
(2) "Harry was sure he saw Neville slip the wrapper into his pocket."
- One of the most poignant lines in the entire series.

(1) Well, I'm nearly finished with this. Now I've got to hunker down and write my review. I simultaneously hate writing reviews but love finishing reviews. It's like exercise, and Harry Potter reviews are especially stressful and demanding on account of the extra attention.

Notes:
(1) "Cornelius, I am ready to fight your men and win again!"
- Dumbledore giving orders to Fudge while still an enemy of the state is one of the series most boss moments.
(2) Phineas Nigellus: "You see, Dumbledore? ... Never try to understand the students. They hate it. They would much rather be tragically misunderstood..."
- A bit cynical, but he's not incorrect.

Notes:
(1) Neville: "A brain attacked Ron but I think he’s all right and Hermione’s unconscious, but we could feel a pulse "
- You'd think all the time fighting with Hermione would have better prepared Ron to fight another brain.
(2) Voldemort calls Bellatrix "Bella"... wonder if he's a "Twilight" fan?
(3) It's easy to forget that people still think Sirius is a murderer.

Notes:
(1) "[Harry] just wanted to get them all out of this alive, make sure that none of his friends paid a terrible price for his stupidity."
- That's certainly a good reason.
(2) Harry: "How come Voldemort wants it?"
Bellatrix: "You dare speak his name?"
Harry: "Yeah."
- Good answer, Harry. Very forthright.
(3) Ron: "Accio brain!"
- C'mon, Ron, you've already got brains.

Notes:
(1) Hermione treats Luna like McGonagall treats Trelawney. With open disdain at the mere mention of absurdities, but with affection and friendship when faced against a common enemy.
(2) Harry, Luna and Neville being the only ones who can hear voices behind the veiled archway should have been a light bulb moment, since they're also the only ones who can see thestrals.

Notes:
(1) Ron: "What’ve you done with Umbridge?"
Harry: "She got carried away."
- Very James Bond of him.
- Even in life-threatening situations there's always time for jokes.
(2) Harry: "Ron’s the only one with a broomstick that isn’t being guarded by
a security troll, so "
Ginny: "I’ve got a broom!"
- Ginny being invisible to Harry again. He'll change his tune next book.

Notes:
(1) '"What did you call us?" shouted a wild-looking black centaur, whom Harry recognized as Bane.'
- Bane? I bet he was born in the darkness.
- In my head he's voiced by Tom Hardy.
(2) "Real tears [slid] down [Hermione's] face now. “We haven’t done anything to hurt you ... we just want to go back to school.
- Of course she wants to go back to school, she's Hermione.

Notes:
(1) Umbridge: "They were all bleating about silencing you ... but I was the one who actually did something about it ... Only you wriggled out of that one, didn’t you, Potter?"
- How very "If it wasn't for you meddling kids..."
(2) "Though Hermione was sobbing desperately into her hands, there was no trace of a tear."
- Great! Cries all the time, but now she's unable!

Notes:
(1) "The confederation had met for the first time in France ... Goblins had tried to attend and been ousted ... And nobody from Liechtenstein had wanted to come."
- Typical Liechtenstein, always going their own way.
(2) Hermione: "This isn’t a criticism, Harry! But ... don’t you think you’ve got a bit of a—a—saving-people-thing?"
- Well, not the worst complex to have.

Notes:
(1) Hermione loves elves but hates giants... a bit hypocritical if you ask me. Also ironic since nearly every elf hates her, but Grawp adores her.
(2) 'Harry raised his wand, looked directly at Umbridge, and imagined her being sacked.
"Expecto Patronum!"'
- Sure, that's a happy thought... though, if it were me, I'd add some sort of humiliation to make it extra happy.

Would have definitely added depth to to the character. Though, it's the sort of thing you have to build up to over time, and would work much better for television than film.

Amber Exactly!

Ian D The book was scandalously slaughtered in the script. Hardly half of its 800+ pages made it to the actual film.

Jayson Ian wrote: "The book was scandalously slaughtered in the script. Hardly half of its 800+ pages made it to the actual film."

In a way it's understandable. Otherwise you'd have a 4-6 hour movie, and no one wants that.

Ian D But, but... most Potterheads would watch that! 😂
I would definitely watch a 3.5-hour film (the Lord of the Rings did just fine and the books were much shorter than The Order of the Phoenix), but I can understand I'm the exception. But the movie was so heavily edited, many important parts of the book were missing. Half an hour of dialogue would've made the film 2.5-hour long, which I don't think is a giant stretch.

Aoife - Bookish_Babbling That Neville bit 💔 😭💔 😭💔 😭

Mrinmayi There are two things that will probably make someone emotional:
1- The wrapper scene
2- Seeing Sirius with Harry because it's hard to get over his death

I don't know... I doubt they could fit everything you'd want in 3.5 hours. Splitting it into two films like "Deathly Hallow" would be more viable. You have to remember, most people, especially children, may not have as firm a control over their bladders as you.

Ian D It's not really what I personally want (which - I admit - is every single detail that would be impossible to transfer to the big screen) but what makes more sense from the point of view of someone who hasn't read the books. I've had lots of friends who didn't get some important points of the films and had to ask me for explanations (and they were grown-ass adults, not children). Going through the series again, I calculated that they only needed to add 20 minutes of dialogue for each film (if that).
When it comes to The Order of the Phoenix, I think there's something inherently wrong when you turn the longest book of the series into the shortest film.

Jayson Aoife - Bookish_Babbling wrote: "That Neville bit 💔 😭💔 😭💔 😭"

Definitely heartbreaking. But it really did the most to round out Neville's character, so he wasn't just the hapless wimp, as portrayed in all but the final films.

Jayson Mrinmayi wrote: "There are two things that will probably make someone emotional:

Yes, I agree. The wrapper scene and the death are hands-down the most emotional parts of this book.

Well, whether it was sufficiently comprehensible to the causal moviegoer is debatable. I've never heard or noticed any sort of outcry about it, not in the least. But experiences may vary 🤷‍♂

Cool, cool, cool...

Audrey The montages were what kept the movie short. Personally I'd like a TV show where each chapter is an episode and nothing is changed, but that's not practical.

The ending of this book destroyed me, and I'm usually pretty stoic.

Even a television show would have to deviate from the books some, but I agree that it's much more friendly a format to the source material than feature films. You would certainly have room for subplots and character moments.

Sasha Ahh this scene! Every moment with Sirius in this movie makes me wanna cry because i know he's gonna die soon.
Why did JK have to kill him? He was such an awesome character (not to mention he was the only family Harry had left) and he'd have been a great help in the Hogwarts Battle. And Moody too, he was so powerful!

Well, what I've heard from interviews is that Arthur Weasley was supposed to die from the snake attack, because Rowling wanted to kill a father figure. But at the last moment he was spared, in exchange for Sirius and Lupin.

What the hell! I didn't know that. Why was it even necessary to kill characters? People already loved the books.

Audrey I heard she cried after writing the scene. I'd still prefer ANYone else to die.

Jayson Sakshi wrote: "What the hell! I didn't know that. Why was it even necessary to kill characters? People already loved the books."

Well, killing characters underscore the stakes. Otherwise life-threatening situations mean nothing.

Jayson Audrey wrote: "I heard she cried after writing the scene. I'd still prefer ANYone else to die."

Perhaps that's the effect she wanted, maximum impact?
