Antioch & Alexandria both used allegory. Antioch followed rhetorics and literary critics of their time, wherefore they insisted that the text needs to "mirror" closely the spiritual reality it points to. Alex. followed philosophers who focused on symbols and systems that helped to decode the veiled spiritual message (true sense).
