Hi!
So glad you enjoyed BURIED. I loved researching Goth styles and creating Thorn. I had hoped to write more The Seer books but the publisher wasn’t interested. I did start a Thorn-Sabine book, writing several chapters, but then wrote the Dead Girl series and a few years later, Curious Cat Spy Club. I also have a book called MEMORY TRAP (originally MEMORY GIRL) which is a futuristic mystery about a girl born on an island where no one ages past 25 and memories of people who died accidentally (or murdered) are transferred into 15-year-olds. You might enjoy this book.
If you have any questions, just email me at [email protected]

The idea for the CURIOUS CAT SPY CLUB (which is released as a box set in October) is more of a memory than an idea. When I was the same age as my characters, I really DID have a Curious Cat Spy Club with my best friend. There even were three abandoned kittens that my friend's family cared for. So truth inspires some fiction!

I am such a Harry Potter fan, that I'd choose that magical world, probably Diagon Alley with all the magical shops, so I could pick out a flying pet, crazy candy and a magic wand.

I collect old series books and love to go book-treasure hunting at thrift and antique stores. On one of these searches, I found a journal with some writing inside. Curious, I started reading about a young woman who lived in Nevada and her fiery, romantic relationship with her new husband. There were sweet moments, but mostly building anxiety as the husband was troubled...and then he killed himself. The journal ended.
When I found this, the internet wasn't a click to answers to everything yet. But years later, when I thought of this journal, I did go online in hopes of returning the journal. I came close to finding the person...but it didn't work out and I still have this sad journal.
If this were a book I was writing, I would have been braver, bolder and gone in person to return the book. A fictional heroine, would have found a bigger mystery-- perhaps the woman denies ever having a husband or even knowing this person. Or maybe someone else wanted the journal and stalked the brave heroine...
All my heroines, even shy ones, are braver than I am. Readers don't live just one life; reader becomes all characters, exploring new worlds and living many lives. Books are like a secret key to everything.

True joy in writing is the daily journey and delight when creating new worlds on paper. I'm happiest when I have a book to write.

After going through a very dry spell in 2013, my career is rising in amazing ways. And I feel so grateful to writing friends who never stopped encouraging me (even after losing an agent and publisher), and also to Albert Whitman Books who published my first picture book, SNOW DOG SAND DOG 2014 and continues to publish the CURIOUS CAT SPY CLUB animal mysteries.
In 2016 I will have four books published! Amazing, isn't it? I can hardly believe my good fortune.
1. CASH KAT, a picture book that teaches counting money when cleaning up a park becomes a treasure hunt for Kat and her grandmother.
FEB 2016, Arbordale.
2. CCSC #3: KELSEY THE SPY - Kelsey's secret notebook is stolen.
APRIL 1, 2016, Albert Whitman & Company.
3. CCSC #4. SECRET OF THE SHADOW BANDIT-Moving to a cottage by a castle, Kelsey discovers a mysterious animal, a tree house & castle mystery.
OCT 1, 2016, Albert Whitman & Company.
4. MEMORY GIRL--On an island where no one ever ages or dies naturally and memories are transferred from the dead to living youths, Jennza questions her identity and risks immortality to save the killer she loves.

I don't allow myself to get writer's block. Sitting regularly down to my laptop has become a habit. Of course there are days when the words just don't come or they're so bad I end up rewriting later. I allow myself those bad days but I never call it "Writer's Block."
Even if I don't write much, writing is part of almost every day of my life. Simply put: a writer writes.

I just finished writing CURIOUS CAT SPY CLUB #3 which I've titled KELSEY THE SPY because the plot parallels a favorite childhood book, HARRIET THE SPY. It's also about Albert, a 130 year old Aldabra tortoise, which was fascinating to research. CCSC #3 is all about secrets: hidden secrets, stolen secrets and revealed secrets. It's always intrigued me how you can meeet someone who seems very ordinary, only to be surprised when they reveal their secret selves. Many secrets will be revealed in the 3rd CURIOUS CAT SPY CLUB.
